She was still walking, and I was already trailing her by now. Her walking was so slow, so I didn't need to rush at all while trailing her, I was just taking it slowly.
I kept trailing her until she arrived at a certain two-storey building. Then she began walking toward the door of one of the apartments in the building.
The moment she reached the door, she opened it and stepped foot into the apartment. She was just doing everything so slowly, she wasn't feeling good at all.
'That must be her home'. I thought to myself, and after glancing left and right, another thought ran through my mind, 'I should go knock on the door'.
..And it wasn't just a thought, it was something I planned on implementing 'cause I was already walking toward the door.
The moment I reached the door, I began knocking on it. I had to knock for some seconds before the door was finally opened, and it was opened by a girl that seemed like she was in her early 'twenties.
Damn! This girl was gorgeous, she was a damsel. She would have been prettier if not for the poverty and the things she must be going through.
That sick woman just entered this apartment...from the look of things, this must be her daughter. Now, she can't just neglect her sick mother like that, she'd have to be taking care of her and all that.
..Do you know what she'd be passing through to take care of her and the fact that there was no money?
But even with all of this, she was still so pretty. The moment she opened the door, she was like...
"Who are you?".
"I'm Casper Nithercott by name. Umm...I just saw a certain woman walk into this apartment, and she isn't looking good at all, she seems sick. And from the look of things, I can tell that she'd lost weight a lot". I voiced out.
A perplexed expression appeared on the girl's face at that moment, and she was like, "Why do you care?".
"I don't like what I saw, she isn't looking good at all, and she's still walking on the road even with her illness? She needs to be in a hospital". I stated once again.
That perplexed expression was still plastered to the girl's face. She couldn't discern if I meant what I was saying or if I was pretending. From what she remembered, no one had ever shown concern for her mum's illness.
..Then I just came from nowhere and was showing concern? It was somehow.
"Is that sick woman your mother?". I inquired of the girl.
"Yes". She responded a little reluctantly.
"Then why did you let her walk on the road even with her illness?".
"That's 'cause she doesn't listen. I've told her several times that if she needed something, she should tell me so I'd go handle it or get it. Sometimes, she'd tell me, sometimes, she'd go on her own when I'm not watching her,
She said she doesn't want to be stressing me out with everything that taking care of her alone was already enough stress for me. But I don't feel that way, she's my mum, I love her, and I'm willing to sacrifice a lot for her even though it can be so hard sometimes,
But she doesn't just listen, she chooses to do things her way sometimes". She explained with a kind of pain on her face, she must have gone through a lot of distress.
They needed help badly, no doubt about it, and I'd love to help them out. At least, I'd discovered the woman has a family.
Her daughter was right in front of me right now. I don't know if there was still more family residing with her, but I'd confirm that later.
Now, what I was hoping for was that there'd be a really valid reason why they were in this situation so I could help them out...
I nodded my head to her statement before saying, "It must have been hard on you. Why isn't she in the hospital receiving proper treatment?".
..I knew the answer to this question, but I just wanted to hear it from her mouth.
"Lack of money, poverty flows around. She needs an operation, but we don't have the amount the hospital is requesting for. So my mum has been here enduring a lot of pain and so on,
She'd lost a lot of weight just as you said, I've just been trying my best to take care of her. She's dying slowly". She explained.
I shook my head a little before throwing another question at her, "What particular illness is she suffering from?".
"Hypercalcemia".
The moment I heard that, my eyes widened a little as I voiced out, "Damn! That's huge".
"Yes, it is huge, and it has been eating her up for a long time. Trust me when I say my mum has suffered a lot from this particular illness". She said.
"But are you the only family she has? Where is your dad? Don't you have any siblings?". I inquired, yes, I needed to confirm this.
"My dad is dead, he died a long time ago. It was after his death that the family's situation became so bad. We were doing fine before his death. And as for siblings, I have only one brother, he's older than I by just two years,
He's not living with us currently, he's out there striving to see if he can generate the amount needed for our mum's surgery. But he's been helping out a lot by sending little money to us,
With that money, I'm able to buy the little drugs my mum is taking to sustain herself. If not for the drugs, she'd have died since. But she needs the surgery to go back to her normal self, she needs it to get well again,
And we are also using part of the money he's sending to cater for ourselves like feeding, paying some bills, and so on. He is trying a lot". She explained.
I nodded my head a little before saying, "Yes, he's really trying. He's a real man".
"But why do you care about all these anyway? Why are you asking me all these questions?". She voiced out once again.
"That's 'cause I want to help out you guys".
Her eyes widened a little the moment she heard that, and she was like, "You want to help us out?".
"Yes".
"Do you mean what you're saying?".
"Yes, I mean it hundred percent".
..I didn't know if there was a valid reason why they were in this situation, but I was already telling her I wanted to help them out.
I didn't know what was wrong with me...what if the system notifies me not to help them out after she gives the reason why they were this poor? What would I do?
She'd be so disappointed and all that, and she'd be so angry at me for bringing her hopes up. I was just hoping everything would play out well.
"Can I come in to see your mum?". I uttered to the girl.
"Sure, you can". She said paving way for me to enter.
She'd already gotten so comfortable with me...
I entered the house, and the first thing I did after stepping foot into it was to glance around. The inner house wasn't looking that good just as the other houses I entered at the other ghetto.
Well, that wasn't why I entered, I entered to see her mum. And it didn't take long for me to see her as she was lying on a certain mattress in the living room.
Seems like she was sleeping, someone that entered just now had already dozed off. When you're ill, you tend to sleep a lot...that was what was happening to her.
..And seriously, she wasn't looking good at all, she'd lost a lot of weight, and she needed proper treatment.
I planned on rendering help to them, but there just needed to be a valid reason why they were in this situation...that was the only thing.
This pretty girl must have gone through a lot in life 'cause of poverty and 'cause of her mother's illness. I really want to ease her suffering.
I just stood there glancing at the woman, and after I was done glancing at her, I focused my gaze on the girl and said...
"I'd help out you guys".
I noticed a smile appear on her face the moment I said that, and her smile was so beautiful. If only she could be smiling more, but I'm sure the hardship of life must have been restraining her from smiling a lot.
"But I have a question to ask you first".
..The moment I said that, a group of men barged into the house.
