Chapter 33 - Special Conversation

In Star City University, everyone's identity is kept confidential. Therefore, he doesn't know Louis' identity. And Louis also doesn't know his job.

"Thank you. Then I will treat you to breakfast tomorrow, so that you won't be caught by the security guard at the entrance again." Luis took the gift and smiled happily.

Dennis didn't answer. He just smiled faintly and drove away.

In front of the villa, the butler stood at the door and greeted, "Miss, you have returned. The master and madam are still awake, waiting for you in the living room to celebrate your birthday."

Luis walked into the villa carrying a gift and said cheerfully, "It's okay."

The butler cautiously inquired, "Miss, who was the gentleman that just brought you back? Is he your boyfriend?"

"Not yet. But he is the person I like," said Luisa as she opened the gift Dennis had given her.

She suddenly stopped , "How could it be this piece of clothing?"

"Miss, is there anything inappropriate?" The butler glanced at the clothes.

The clothes are surprisingly inexpensive.

Luis stomped his foot and unhappily said, "It shouldn't be this one! Uncle clearly told me that he bought a very beautiful dress set from our family's store."

The housekeeper understands Louis's current state of mind very well. He feels that it is time to discuss with the lady of the house and find a suitable person for the young miss.

However, he just observed the gentleman who brought the young lady back. He looks decent and his car is nice, but it's necessary to dig deeper.

.....

At 3 am, in the outskirts of Star City.

In the two-story building, Dennis is lying in bed, wrapped in a blanket. He is covered in cold sweat, with his back completely soaked. His slender body is tightly curled up and occasionally twitches.

"Emma, don't..."

During his sleep, Dennis murmured intermittently. His face was pale and his tight skin glistened with a layer of transparent water droplets.

"Emma, run, run!"

In the quiet room, a sudden roar echoed, mixed with boundless fear. Dennis abruptly woke up from his dream and opened his dark brown eyes. He sat up, inadvertently touching the wound on his chest.

He instantly felt a sharp pain in his chest, causing him to cover it and fall silent. His complexion turned even paler.

Beside the pillow, the phone suddenly rang. The screen flashed with a person's name: James.

Dennis frowned and picked up the phone. In a cold, slightly hoarse voice from his throat, he asked, "Teacher, why are you calling so early? What's the matter?"

On the phone, James's voice was urgent and urging, saying, "Emma's condition has worsened. She has just been rushed into the emergency room. Please come quickly."

Dennis remained silent for a moment, stirring up a few strands of emotions in his mind. Emma... He lightly pursed his dry lips and said, "I'll be right there."

.....

At 4 o'clock in the morning, Dennis hurriedly arrived at the hospital located in the city center of Star City and waited outside the emergency room with James.

Six years ago, Emma had a car accident. James, as their teacher, recommended this well-funded state-owned hospital to Dennis and asked him to take care of Emma.

Now, time flies and six years have already passed.

Although Emma has not woken up yet, her body remains in excellent condition under the careful care of the nurses, both in terms of bone health and the well-being of her muscles and skin.

Previously, Dennis used to come over every day to visit Emma. He would talk to her, help her wash her arms, and do some rehabilitation massages on her legs.

However, since Helen appeared, Dennis has gradually reduced the time he spends visiting Emma. He always comes and goes in a hurry. It seems that he is particularly worried about the vampire left at home.

In the emergency room, the red light keeps shining, with no indication of when it will end. In the hallway, Dennis crosses his arms and leans against the wall, quietly waiting.

James opened his briefcase and took out a pineapple bun, handing it to Dennis. His face had a kind smile, radiating the care of an elder as he said, "Did you come over this morning without having breakfast? You used to love this when you were young."

Dennis took the pineapple bun and smiled with dry lips. He opened the packaging and smelled the fragrance of the bun. It was indeed the taste from his old memories.

Unfortunately, he has no appetite now. His mind is worried about the person in the emergency room.

James glanced at Dennis and walked towards the corner of the stairs. "Dennis, can we talk for a moment?"

He stood in front of a transparent glass window, looking at the people coming and going downstairs. He lit a cigarette and silently smoked it.

"Teacher, you should quit smoking as your health is not good."

"I am old now, so please let me have some peace." James waved his hand and took two deep puffs before throwing the remaining half of the cigarette out of the window.

Dennis reached out his hand and caught a ray of morning sunlight streaming in through the window. In the palm of his hand, there floated a bit of sunshine, the color of Helen's eyes, shimmering silver and incredibly beautiful. "Teacher, what would you like to talk to me about?"

Under the shining sun, there was a layer of grease on James' smooth forehead. He took out a handkerchief and wiped it off, looking somewhat unnatural, and asked, "Can you honestly tell me that you've never thought about waking Emma up?"

Dennis was slightly taken aback and paused for a few seconds. His dark brown eyes slowly lowered, with his thick eyelashes covering the deep color in his pupils. After a while, Dennis softly said, "Teacher, are you referring to the research on vampires?"

James nodded, saying "As long as you understand."

He continued, "Emma is only twenty-two years old. She should have become a university lecturer like you or even pursued further studies at a higher institution. But now, she can only lie in the hospital."

"Teacher, I don't want the current situation to happen either." Dennis's voice was low and seemed to sink deep into his throat. "But researching vampires privately is illegal. If discovered by the Vampire Hunter Bureau, the consequences will be severe."

"Are you willing to let Emma lie in the hospital for the rest of her life? Is that fair to her?" James's tone suddenly rose, and even his fingers trembled along with it, his chest heaving strongly.

Dennis hesitated. He knew it was unfair to Emma. But is there fairness in this world?

If there was fairness, his parents would not have mysteriously disappeared and there has been no news about them to this day. The Vampire Hunter Bureau seems to act as if nothing ever happened, not mentioning anything about it.

James raised his trembling hand and firmly grasped Dennis' shoulder. With the greatest courage he had ever mustered in his lifetime, he pleaded, "Dennis, I have always treated Emma as my own daughter. So please, let me have someone to rely on in my old age."

James shook Dennis and accidentally pulled on the wound on his chest.

Dennis slightly furrowed his brows, tightly pursing his beautiful lips. He looked at James standing in front of him, with a weary expression on his face. A hint of softness appeared in Dennis' usually indifferent eyes as he asked, "Teacher, what do you want me to do?"
