Chapter 38 - Hunting Game

Abby leaned against the sofa, with an ice cube in his mouth. Chewing thoughtfully, he said, "For now, let's not worry about that old man James. We can discuss it when he personally meets you and asks for your help."

Albert stood on the empty space of the VIP area, swaying to the music with elegant dance steps. His wild and lazy dance moves exuded an arrogant attitude: "Are you sure we shouldn't pay attention to James? If he manages to escape, all our efforts will be in vain."

A year ago, Albert followed the clues and targeted James. However, James was very cunning. He had a very regular lifestyle and was also quite disciplined in his career, with few mistakes.

So, Albert felt guilty. Perhaps he had wrongly accused this soon-to-retire teacher.

However, if you want to keep something a secret, you must not do anything. Albert discovered that James had a mobile account overseas. There was a large sum of money in the account.

The amount is around 100 million US dollars. This far exceeds James' salary level.

Abby has been dealing with James for many years. He knows well that James is a mature and meticulous professional. Therefore, without sufficient evidence, he dare not easily let Albert go to arrest someone. He doesn't want to alarm James and expose Albert's identity.

Furthermore, Abby recalled his recent encounters with Dennis and couldn't help but put another ice cube in his mouth. After careful consideration, he said, "I will arrange for someone to keep an eye on Dennis. It's best if you don't get too close to him for now, as it may arouse James' suspicion."

"Sure." Albert readily agreed.

"If we need to meet, I will inform you again. And..." Abby hesitated for a moment, her expression serious.

Albert turned to Abby and asked, "What else?"

"Have you ever encountered purebred vampires?" Abby pondered for a while before finally asking her lingering question.

Albert's face turned a little funny. "Are you kidding me? You think Purebred vampire are pie in the sky?"

"Anything is possible. It wouldn't be surprising if something really fell from the sky and landed on someone's car!"

Two days ago, Abby received external footage from the on-campus coffee shop at Star City University. Although there was no appearance of purebred vampires in the video, the loud 'bang' was indeed real.

He remembered that on that day, Albert should have come to Star City University to pick him up and go together to attend the vampire hunter exchange meeting.

The two planned to exchange information while taking advantage of the crowd. However, Albert stood him up that day. Furthermore, when they met in the underground parking lot, Albert also showed anger towards him and Hank.

He knew they were on the same side, but he almost ended up fighting with them.

Abby raised her delicate eyebrows and had a faint smile on her lips. He speculated that Albert was probably protecting the 'drunk woman'.

So... who is that intoxicated woman? Could she be a purebred vampire?

On Albert's handsome face, a momentary gloom appeared. He put on his coat and walked towards the door.

Abby raised her eyebrows in disbelief and muttered to herself, "Are you leaving now? What a boring person."

Suddenly, Abby's phone rang and he received a message. The message contained a long string of words: "Even if I have to be enemies with the whole world, I will never back down if I meet someone who I want to keep in my heart." The message was signed by Albert.

"It seems like this person has someone they like, huh?" Abby chuckled softly, put away his phone, and stood up. He glanced at the empty seats in the elegant area, picked up his small leather handbag for women, stepped on his high heels, and walked into the ladies' restroom.

Fifteen minutes later, a skylight opened in the bathroom. Abby stood under the moonlight, holding a pair of high heels in her hands. She cautiously approached the wall and climbed down the drainpipe.

"shit! being tracked every time to go out."

.....

At 8 o'clock in the evening, Dennis drove into Sunshine Community and parked his car. After that, he arrived at Helen's apartment door.

After opening the door, Dennis found that the room was dimly lit and had a gloomy atmosphere. There were two wall lamps in the hallway for illumination. The hall was empty, quiet enough to hear breathing sounds.

He furrowed his brow slightly and proceeded to open the doors to the guest room, study, and kitchen in sequence, saying, "Helen? Camilla? Sam?"

However, the whole room was quiet. No one responded to him. Could it be that someone had broken the barrier and come here?

Dennis felt nervous as he pushed open the door to the final master bedroom.

The door opened, and a bright light shone out through the crack. The ancient and pure beam instantly fell on Dennis' slightly worried face.

In the master bedroom, Helen and Sam sat on the bed. Both of them had wide-open eyes, staring intently at the chessboard in front of them. Placed between them was an international chessboard, and from the position of the pieces on the board, it seemed that they were already at a critical moment, a hair's breadth away from victory or defeat.

Camilla stood by the bed. She crouched down, fists clenched, assuming a hunting-like posture. Then, she leaped forward suddenly, reaching out to grab the last chess piece in front of Sam and holding it in her mouth.

The next second, she turned around and ran. Sam didn't even have a chance to react.

At the same time, Helen put down the 'king' chess piece in her hand and occupied the spot where Sam had previously placed his piece. She raised an eyebrow and beckoned to Sam with a finger, saying, "Meatball, you lost."

Sam chased after Camilla and ran out. In the living room, Sam's various heart-wrenching and aggrieved cries could be heard: "Camilla, please give me back the chess pieces, quickly!"

Camilla carried the chess pieces, her agile figure shuttling back and forth along the surrounding walls, roof, and stairs.

She jumped around in various fancy styles, climbing and swinging at a rapid pace. Not only did she break pots and pans, creating a loud clattering sound, but also avoided Sam's pursuit with one final jump. She grabbed onto the chandelier in the living room with both hands and flipped upwards.

She casually shook her hair and decided not to come down. Sam stood under the chandelier, holding his head high. He looked disappointed, as Helen and Camilla had always been teasing and bullying him, whether it was a thousand years ago or now.

Dennis stood in front of the door, watching the entire blatant cheating incident unfold. A hint of embarrassment appeared on his cold and indifferent face.

In the world of vampires, survival of the fittest is the law, and there is no concept of 'cheating' at all!

"Dennis, you're back?" Helen noticed Dennis's presence and turned her head to look towards where he was.

In the past, she could see everything. But yesterday, she overused her eyes and her vision has temporarily not recovered. Now she can only see a blurry shadow.

Dennis walked over and stood in front of Helen. He gazed into her dull, gray eyes and asked, "What's wrong with your eyes?"

"It's just eye fatigue. Nothing serious." Helen shrugged her shoulders, dismissing it.

A thousand years ago, her eyes suffered injuries a hundred times more severe than they are now. Fortunately, she slept and when she woke up, her eyes had healed.

"How do you take care of yourself?" Dennis's concern was hidden in the dark black of his eyes.

Helen raised her proud gaze and coldly said, "I have Camilla here, as well as Sam."

Her waiter is not useless. If they can't even take care of her, then they have no reason to exist.

"I disagree. You need to come back with me," Dennis recalled the task James had assigned him in the morning and directly denied Helen's idea.

Now, the entire Star City is hunting vampires. If James has arranged for others to secretly search for vampires, Helen's current situation could be very dangerous.

Dennis doesn't want Helen to fall into someone else's hands. Especially James.

Helen frowned in confusion and said, "Mr. Dennis, there is no need for us to meet again."

Helen doesn't want to play the hunting game with the man in front of her. Because in her world, time is precious and energy is limited.
