The Clue Crackers were visiting Nottingham, and on their way there, their van got stuck in a hole in the road. Since their van was stuck, all four got out and tried to push it out. Ricky looked behind him and noticed something weird about the hole they were standing in. Ricky said, "Hey, Cassidy." Cassidy said, "What?" Ricky said, "Do regular road bumps and holes have three triangles at the end of them side by side?" Cassidy said, "Not usually. Why?" Ricky said, "Because if not, we're standing in a giant footprint." The Clue Crackers all looked at the shape of the hole they were in and saw it did look like a footprint. Cassidy said, "But that's impossible. Anything that can make a footprint this big would have to be 50 ft tall." Brad said, "Let's just get the van out and leave." The Clue Crackers all pushed their van out of the hole, got back in it, and then drove to Nottingham. After they left, a giant monster showed up, saw The Clue Crackers van, and roared at it. Then a fog rolled in, came by the beast, and the monster vanished in the mist.
Once they got into town, they checked into the nearest hotel and saw the place looked deserted. Once they checked in, they asked the receptionist, Mr. Wildsmith, why they were the only ones checked into the hotel. Mr. Wildsmith said, "It's because of the river monster." Brad said, "River monster?" Mr. Wildsmith said, "Yes, a giant monster who lives in River Trent. Since he showed up, many people have been leaving, except for a guy wearing a green cloak. But sadly, nobody knows who he is or where he lives. They only know that he spends most of his time in Sherwood Forest." Cassidy said, "Then that's where we'll start." Ricky said, "You don't mean." Cassidy said, "Yes." Cassidy and Ricky said, "There's a mystery to solve."
The Clue Crackers drove into Sherwood Forest, looking for the hooded figure. Once they got to the forest's center, they exited their van and started looking around themselves. Brad said, "That hooded figure has got to be here somewhere, and we're going to find him." The Clue Crackers started to search for the hooded figure and any clues. While searching, they saw footprints on the ground leading down the path. Judy said, "Look, footprints." Cassidy said, "But they just stop and vanish. A person can't just vanish." Ricky said, "He can if he's a ghost."
Brad said, "Or maybe he went somewhere else." Cassidy said, "But his footprints stop. The only other place he could have gone is …" The Clue Crackers looked up and saw the branches were too high for him to climb up, so they figured he couldn't have climbed up to them. Brad said, "He couldn't have." Ricky said, "Unless he floated up like a ghost." Cassidy said, "I don't think he is a ghost. He got away somehow, but we don't know how." While they were talking, the ground started to shake. Brad said, "Earthquake?" Cassidy listened to the rhythm of the beating and figured out what it was. Cassidy said, "Footsteps." Then, the pounding knocked all five of them to the ground. Judy said, "Must be some big feet."
Then the river monster showed up and roared at The Clue Crackers. Once they saw the beast, The Clue Crackers screamed in terror, ran for their lives, and the monster chased after them. While they were running, the beast stopped because he got shot with an arrow. The Clue Crackers also stopped and wondered why the monster stopped chasing them. Then, they saw another arrow fly down from the trees and hit the beast. Judy said, "Where'd that come from?" Ricky looked up in the trees and saw a guy in a green cloak with a bow. Ricky pointed at the guy and said, "Him." The Clue Crackers looked up in the trees and saw the green guy with the bow. Then, the guy shot three arrows at once at the monster, and once they hit him, they scared the monster out of the woods and back to the river. Judy said, "He scared the monster away. Gee, thanks." The guy then took another arrow and aimed it at The Clue Crackers, and The Clue Crackers got worried. Once the guy shot the arrow, The Clue Crackers dunked, and the arrow flew down with a rope attached to it, hitting the tree behind them. Then the guy slid down to The Clue Crackers on the rope and took his arrow with the rope back.
After he did, The Clue Crackers got up and spoke to the guy before he left. Brad said, "You weren't aiming for us, were you?" The guy nodded his head no and put his bow and arrow away. Judy said, "And your real target was the monster, right?" The guy crossed his arms and nodded his head yes. Cassidy said, "Oh, well, thanks for saving us." Ricky said, "Who are you anyway?" The guy said, "I can't show you." Judy said, "It's ok. You can show us." The guy removed his cloak and showed The Clue Crackers who he was. Brad said, "You're Robin Hood. No wonder you're so good at archery." Robin Hood said, "Yep. Now I need to go back home." Cassidy grabbed Robin Hood's arm and said, "Wait. You're the guy hanging around in the woods, right?" Robin Hood said, "Of course. This is my home. I hide here because I steal from the rich and give to the needy. I also save people in need like you guys were." Cassidy said, "Maybe you can help us with a case. We think that the monster you attacked is a fake. Have you seen anyone or anything strange lately?" Robin Hood said, "Not unless you count that monster. I've tried to defeat him dozens of times. Sometimes, he comes to my home, and sometimes, I go to his river to get a drink or challenge him." Judy said, "Can you take us there?" Robin Hood said, "Gladly." The Clue Crackers followed Robin Hood to River Trent and started to look for clues. Robin Hood said, "See ya." Robin Hood launched an arrow with a rope attached to the trees, pulled on the rope, and launched himself into the trees. Judy said, "Well, that explains how his footprints could vanish."
While The Clue Crackers searched for clues, Robin Hood tried to spot the monster from up in the trees. Once he did, he jumped onto one of the rocks in the river and started to look for the monster again. Then the monster showed itself, and The Clue Crackers screamed and watched Robin Hood fight it. After it showed itself, it went back underwater, and Robin Hood started jumping from rock to rock while the river monster chased him. The river monster came above water and swam up to Robin Hood, but Robin Hood jumped off the rock he was on and into the trees. Then, the monster slammed its face against the tree. Robin Hood jumped in and then fell back into the water. Then the monster came back above water, and once Robin Hood spotted him, he brought out one of his arrows, aimed it at the monster, and shot it at him. The arrow flew down towards the monster, but the monster swam back under the water, and the arrow flew under the water. Then the monster swam around the river, and Robin Hood fired on its shadow quickly. However, the monster kept dodging his attacks and swimming away. Then Robin Hood came up with an idea, loaded three arrows onto his bow, and shot them all at the monster's shadow. Two missed, but one hit the monster, and Robin Hood saw it from up in the trees. Then he laughed because of it, but the water started to rise, and when Robin Hood looked down, he saw the monster coming out of the water. Then, the monster smacked Robin Hood away with its tail and hit him into another tree. Then Robin Hood took another arrow from his pack, aimed it at the monster, and shot it right in its face. Then the monster screamed and went back under the water. Robin Hood looked around the river but couldn't find its shadow. Robin Hood said, "That's weird, it's gone." Ricky said, "At least you scared it away." Cassidy said, "But how can a giant monster disappear like that?" Brad said, "It can't if it's fake. Maybe it is a ghost."
While searching the river, Judy found a wallet on the ground. Judy said, "Hey, a wallet." Ricky took the wallet Judy found from Judy and said, "We should probably turn this into the lost and found." Judy took the wallet from Ricky and said, "Ricky, get real." Judy opened the wallet and didn't see any identification inside. Judy said, "Whoever dropped this didn't want to be identified." Judy looked at how much money was in the wallet and saw a bunch of 10s, 20s, and 50s. Judy said, "Whoever owns this owns a fortune. There's something else here." Judy took out what she saw in the wallet and looked closer at it. Judy said, "It's a picture of Nottingham Castle." Cassidy said, "Maybe that's where the bad guy is." Robin Hood heard them and said, "No. That castle is off-limits. Even I'm forbidden to go there. Mark my words. You'll be doomed if you go there." Brad said, "Even a better reason for us to investigate. What better place for a person to hide than a forbidden place?" Robin Hood said, "Fine. But I'm forbidden to go there, so I can't join you." Robin Hood left, and The Clue Crackers went to the castle.
Once they got to the castle, they parked their van right outside it. Judy said, "There it is, The Nottingham Castle." The Clue Crackers exited their van, walked up to the castle, opened the door, and entered. Once they got in, they started to look around. Brad said, "If this is the bad guy's hideout, we stand a better chance of finding him if we split up. The girls and Jake will go one way. Ricky and I will go to the other." The Clue Crackers split up and started to look for clues. Brad and Ricky took their flashlights and marched up the stairs to the next floor. Once they got up there, they tried opening the doors in the hallway, but a suit of armor put his axe in front of the door Ricky was in front of. Ricky said, "Um, I think that means 'Do Not Disturb'." Then Brad opened one of the doors, and when he did, a bunch of swords blocked it. Brad said, "I'm not going in there. Come on, Ricky, let's get out of here."
Meanwhile, Judy, Cassidy, and Jake were walking down a hallway lit with torches. Once they reached the hall's end, they saw a door and opened it. Then they walked in and looked around. Cassidy looked at the table and found a remote control and a laptop. Cassidy sat down and opened the computer but couldn't get in. Cassidy said, "It's password protected." Judy said, "Let me take a shot at it. When we first met, my parents sent me to summer camp for our first case because I spent too much time around the computer, remember?" Judy bypassed the password lock, hacked the computer, and pushed the enter key. The computer said, "Access Granted," then let them into it. Then, the laptop showed them a sonar map of the river and a specific spot marked. Judy said, "A sonar map of River Trent and a particular place in the water is marked." Judy printed the map, put it in her backpack, and saved it for when they returned to the river. Judy said, "What do you suppose they're looking for?" Cassidy said, "Don't know. Guess we'll find that out later."
Meanwhile, Brad and Ricky opened one of the doors and found the castle's library. Brad said, "I'll check fiction, and you check mythology. Try to find a book on the monster." Brad checked all over fiction but couldn't find anything. Ricky looked all over mythology and found the book they were looking for. Ricky brought out his walkie-talkie and said, "Brad, I found the book." After Ricky found the book, he stuffed it in his backpack and saved it for later. Once Ricky put the book in his bag, he went to find Brad. Once he did, they left the library with the book and went to find the others.
Meanwhile, Judy was still searching through the computer, and while she was on it, they started to hear footsteps coming from above them. Judy said, "I feel we're not the only ones here." Cassidy said, "Let's go." Judy, Cassidy, and Jake left their room, walked down the same hallway lit with torches, and went upstairs to see who was making the footsteps. Once they got upstairs, they turned on their flashlights and looked around. While they were looking around, they started to hear laughing. Then, a witch appeared in a puff of smoke. The witch said, "So, you dared enter the castle even though entry is forbidden." Judy said, "You shouldn't believe everything everyone tells you." The witch said, "No, my pretty? I think meddlers like you must think differently with me. Witch's smoke, make her vanish." Then Judy vanished in a puff of smoke, and the witch laughed when she did. Then, the witch disappeared in a puff of smoke herself. Cassidy said, "Pour Judy. Gone forever in a puff of smoke." Cassidy fell on her knees and felt the floor where Judy stood but couldn't find anything. Cassidy said, "No secret door on the floor. She couldn't have fallen. The witch also vanished the same way but didn't leave any clues. Let's keep looking, Jake."
Meanwhile, Brad and Ricky found another staircase leading downstairs. Once they got to the bottom, they opened a door and found another staircase leading down, so they followed it down to the laboratory in the basement. Ricky said, "The castle's laboratory." While they were down there, they heard someone coming down the stairs, so they hid in different places. Then, the witch went into the laboratory with Judy and strapped her to one of the examination tables in the lab. Judy said, "Let me go." The witch said, "Not in your afterlife." Judy said, "What are you going to do with me?" The witch said, "I may hold you captive for a day or two. Then I might feed you to the monster." Judy got worried and thought she was doomed for a moment. Ricky then looked out from under one of the sheets on one of the examination tables and saw Judy with the witch. Ricky whispered into his walkie, "Brad, I'll keep her busy while you remove Judy from that table." Ricky then came out from hiding and said, "Hey." The witch turned around and saw Ricky. Ricky said, "If you want her, you must go through me first." Ricky kicked an examination table at the witch, but the witch stepped to the side, and the examination table missed her. The witch said, "Is that the best you can do?" Ricky ran across the lab, and Brad came out from behind the computer and tiptoed to Judy. Then Brad cut her free, grabbed her hand, and let her off the table. Brad said, "Let's get out of here." Judy said, "Ricky, time to go." Brad, Judy, and Ricky all ran to the door and back up the stairs, but the witch chased after them. Once they reached the top, they slammed the door on the witch and barricaded it with a desk. Ricky said, "That should hold her for a while.
After they barricaded the door, Brad called Cassidy on his walkie. Brad said in his walkie, "Cassidy." Cassidy said in her walkie, "Yes." Brad said in his walkie, "We found Judy, and we got the witch trapped in the basement." Cassidy said in her walkie, "Ok, stay where you are. Jake and I will come to you." Cassidy and Jake went downstairs and met up with Brad, Judy, and Ricky by the basement door. Once they met up, they all decided to look around together. While they were looking around, they found a door and opened it. Once they got in, they all saw it was the castle's throne room. Judy said, "This must have been the castle's throne room back when it wasn't deserted." Ricky said, "No kidding, this whole room is deserted. I don't think we'll find anything in here." Cassidy said, "I don't think so either. Let's get out of here." The Clue Crackers left the throne room and ran out of the castle with the evidence they had.
Once they exited the castle, they entered their van and drove back to Sherwood Forest. Once they got into the forest, they left their van, and an arrow landed by Judy's foot. Judy got scared and looked up in the trees to see who launched it. When she did, she saw it was Robin Hood. Judy said, "How long have you been there?" Robin Hood said, "A few hours. Did you enjoy your trip to the castle?" Cassidy said, "Are you surprised we made it back? Because we went there, and we're still alive." Robin Hood said, "I admit, you were brave enough to go to that castle, and it's impressive that you all made it back in one piece." Ricky said, "Maybe it's time we started reading about the mystery." Ricky set the book he had taken from the castle's library on a tree stump, and everyone gathered around him. Ricky said, "The Trent River Monster. The monster Nottingham fears." Ricky opened the book and read it.
Ricky said, "According to this, the monster only comes out of the water whenever someone intrudes by the river. It swims fast, especially under the water. He has razor-sharp teeth and claws. Can appear and disappear within the mist. And its greatest fear is to be found just like The Loch Ness Monster." Brad said, "So if it doesn't want to be found, why did it show itself to us and Robin Hood?" Cassidy said, "That's what we're going to discover." Ricky closed the book and kept it in case they needed it again. Judy said, "Now that we know a thing or two about the monster, I think it's time we checked out the river." Judy showed them the map she printed and pointed at the place marked. Judy said, "I say we check out this place first." Brad said, "Why?" Judy said, "The bad guy marked it for some reason. It's probably a secret location." Brad said, "Ok, we'll check it out." Robin Hood said, "Really? Are you sure that's a good idea?" Cassidy said, "If we're going to solve this mystery, we must go to the beast's lair." Robin Hood said, "Well, count me out; I only go there for drinks and target practice." Ricky said, "Tell you what, you can be the lookout. If you see anyone suspicious, alert us on our walkie. You can take mine. And if the monster shows up, you can have target practice with it."
Robin Hood said, "Agreed." The Clue Crackers and Robin Hood went to the river. Once they got there, they all got out of their van and went to the river. Then, The Clue Crackers put on their scuba gear, jumped into the river, and swam underwater. Once they got underwater, they saw different types of fish. Once they got to the spot on the map that was marked, they found an underwater cave and swam in it. Then they swam up to the surface, stuck their heads out of the water, and climbed out. Then, they took off their scuba gear and went down one of the tunnels in the cave.
Meanwhile, Robin Hood was practicing being faster with his bow and arrow. He hit many trees with arrows, shot one into the treetops, and nailed an apple. Then, the arrow came back down to the ground and landed in the ground. Then Robin Hood took the arrow from the ground and ate the apple he nailed with it. Robin Hood said, "That's one way to score lunch in a forest. I wonder how they're doing under there." The Clue Crackers were investigating the cave and saw a bunch of crystals and diamonds all over the walls. Cassidy said, "I bet whoever made that map marked this cave to find these crystals and diamonds." Judy cast her light straight forward and saw boxes loaded with them. Judy said, "I think they're packing it in." The Clue Crackers all looked behind Judy and saw the river monster behind her. Ricky said, "And I think it's time to leave." Judy said, "Why's that?" Ricky grabbed Judy and turned her around, and Judy saw the monster, too. Judy yelled, "Run for it!" The Clue Crackers ran for their lives, and the beast chased them. The Clue Crackers ran down another tunnel, and the beast chased after them. Brad said, "Split up." Judy, Ricky, and Jake ran down one tunnel while Brad and Cassidy ran down another tunnel. Brad said, "Run, run."
The monster chased after Brad and Cassidy while Judy, Ricky, and Jake got to the end of their tunnel and ended up in a cove. Once they arrived, they looked around and found several shark fins swimming in the cove. Ricky shouted, "SHARKS!" Ricky jumped into Judy's hands, and Jake got pulled into the cove. Judy reached her hand out and said, "Jake." Judy dropped Ricky, dived into the water after him, looked all around, and saw the shark fins, which were magnets with fake fins attached to their tops and chains, pulling them around to make it look like they were swimming. She also saw Jake getting pulled away on one. Then she swam back to the surface because she couldn't breathe.
Judy climbed out of the water, coughing, and Ricky helped her. Ricky said, "Judy, are you ok?" Judy said, "I'm fine." Ricky looked around and said, "Where's Jake?" Judy said, "Probably halfway across the river by now. He got pulled away on those magnets." Ricky said, "Magnets?" Judy pointed at the shark fins and said, "Those aren't sharks. They're magnets with fake shark fins attached to their tops and chains attached to their bottoms to make it look like they're swimming underneath." Ricky said, "Jake's collar probably got stuck on one of the magnets, and he got pulled away on it." Judy said, "And that's how we're going to find Jake." Ricky said, "What do you mean?" Judy said, "Hang on tight." Judy grabbed Ricky, jumped in the water, and held onto a shark fin while Ricky held onto Judy. While Judy held onto the fin, the fin carried them out of the cove and to an old cottage. Once they saw it, Judy let go of the fin and climbed to the boardwalk. Then she grabbed Ricky and pulled him up to the boardwalk, too. Then Judy and Ricky walked up to the cottage at the top of a hill. Once they got there, they started to hear the water moving, so they looked at where it was coming from and saw the witch approaching the cottage in a boat. Once they saw the witch, they looked around and tried to find a hiding place. Judy and Ricky couldn't find any place to hide, but they saw some trees, which gave Judy an idea. Judy brought out her walkie-talkie and called Robin Hood on it. Judy said into her walkie-talkie, "Robin Hood, come in." Robin Hood answered it and said into his walkie, "I'm here, what is it?" Judy said into her walkie-talkie, "Ricky and I are trapped in front of a cottage, and the witch we saw in the castle is coming. Please save us. There are some trees you can hide in here." Robin Hood said into his walkie-talkie, "On my way."
Meanwhile, Brad and Cassidy still tried to lose the monster in the cave. While being chased, the monster grabbed Cassidy's arm and lifted her. Cassidy tried to pull her arm free and said, "Let me go." Then Cassidy grabbed the monster, and when she fell, the monster dropped her, and Cassidy tore part of the monster's skin off. After she did, the monster ran off and dropped something when he did. Cassidy pointed at the ground and said, "Look, he dropped something." Once the monster left, Cassidy picked up what the monster dropped. Cassidy said, "It's a notepad with writing on it. But I can't tell what it is because the handwriting isn't that good." Brad looked at Cassidy's other hand and said, "What's that in your other hand?" Cassidy looked at what she was holding and saw a piece of rubber the same color as the monster's skin. Cassidy said, "This feels like rubber." Brad said, "But if that's rubber?" Cassidy said, "Then the monster has to be fake."
Meanwhile, Judy and Ricky were hiding from the witch in the only tree in the yard. Once the witch came by the tree, Judy covered Ricky's mouth and watched the witch. Then, an arrow with a rope nailed the tree they were in, and they wondered where it came from. Judy looked at a tree at the bottom of the hill and saw Robin Hood in it. Robin Hood called Judy on his walkie and said, "Slide down on the rope." The witch thought she heard a voice from the tree, so she checked it out. Judy looked down, saw the witch coming, and tried to think of something to hold onto. Judy said, "The witch is coming. What are we going to do?" Ricky said, "I know." Ricky removed his belt, put it on the rope, and told Judy to hold onto him. Ricky said, "Hang on tight." Ricky jumped off the tree with Judy holding onto him, and they ziplined down to Robin Hood. Once the witch reached the top, she saw Judy and Ricky ziplining on a rope. Once they reached the bottom, Robin Hood pulled the rope and got his arrow back. Then, they all jumped down from their tree and dropped to the ground. Judy said, "Ziplining on that rope was kind of fun."
Ricky said, "Agreed. Thanks for the save, Robin Hood." Robin Hood said, "You're welcome." Then they heard laughing, and the witch appeared in front of them. The witch said, "So, he's the one who saved you." Robin Hood said, "That's right. I may be an outlaw, but I'm also a hero." The witch said, "How can an outlaw be good? You're a traitor to your kind. And I'll make sure you pay for it." Robin Hood said, "Bring it on." The witch whistled and called her friend, the river monster. The witch pointed at Robin Hood and said, "Sick 'em." The beast brought out its claws and tried to slice Robin Hood with them, but Robin Hood jumped out of the way, and the beast missed. Robin Hood said, "Judy, Ricky, go, I'll hold them off." Judy said, "Run!" Judy and Ricky ran for their lives, but the witch chased after them.
Meanwhile, Robin Hood shot an arrow at the monster and hit him directly in the face. Then the monster got angry and whipped Robin Hood away with his tail, but Robin Hood landed on his feet in a tree. Then, Robin Hood aimed another arrow at the monster and shot it at the monster. The beast tried taking Robin Hood out with its tail, but Robin Hood jumped and shot another arrow at the beast. Then he did a backflip in the air, bounced off the monster's face, and nailed him with another arrow. Then he ran after Judy, Ricky, and the witch. Once he spotted them, Robin Hood aimed one of his arrows up and shot it, and when it landed, it landed right by the witch's foot.
Robin Hood said, "Over here." The witch turned around and saw Robin Hood twirling his bow." The witch ran up to Robin Hood, but Robin Hood jumped, shot an arrow, and nailed her hat. The witch grabbed her hat and put it back on her head. Then she jumped and kicked Robin Hood's bow. Robin Hood said, "Come on, show me what you got." Robin Hood kept backing up and firing arrows at the witch, but the witch disappeared and then reappeared behind Robin Hood. Then she punched him, and his bow slid across the ground. While Robin Hood was down, the witch grabbed Robin Hood's bow and threw it into the river. Robin Hood said, "My bow." The witch stood ahead of Robin Hood and said, "You lose." Then his bow flew out of the river and landed right ahead of him. Robin Hood said, "My bow." The witch said, "How?" Jake jumped out of the water and then jumped onto the witch. Judy and Ricky both said, "Jake." Jake jumped off the witch and jumped in front of Judy and Ricky, and they hugged him. Judy said, "Jake. We're so glad you're safe." The witch vanished after Jake returned, and Brad and Cassidy found them. Brad said, "Are you guys ok?" Judy said, "We are now. Let's get back to the forest." Cassidy said, "But how are we going to get there? We came here through an underwater cave." Ricky said, "True. But maybe Robin Hood knows a way." Brad said, "Do you, Robin Hood?" Robin Hood said, "Yes. I traveled through the treetops to get here. We can return the same way if you're up for it." Cassidy said, "You go in the trees; we'll follow you from the ground." Robin Hood said, "Agreed."
Robin Hood shot an arrow with a rope attached to a tree, pulled the rope, and launched him into the trees. Robin Hood said, "Try to keep up." Robin Hood jumped from tree to tree, and The Clue Crackers ran after him. The Clue Crackers ran up a hill after Robin Hood, who jumped through the trees, but then a ninja cut the branch he was standing on. Then Robin Hood fell to the ground, and The Clue Crackers helped him. Judy said, "What's going on?" Robin Hood said, "Run." The ninja came down from the tree, jumped over Robin Hood's head, and got ready to fight The Clue Crackers. The ninja threw five silver-throwing stars at The Clue Crackers, but Robin Hood launched five arrows at the silver-throwing stars and knocked them away. The ninja turned around and saw Robin Hood with his bow. Robin Hood said, "Anything you can throw, I can throw better." The ninja had eight silver stars between his fingers and threw them all at Robin Hood. Then Robin Hood quickly shot arrows at each of them and knocked them down. The ninja brought out a special silver-throwing star, pushed the button, and threw it at Robin Hood. Then Robin Hood launched an arrow at it, and when Robin Hood's arrow hit the ninja's star, they both exploded.
While Robin Hood was fighting the ninja, Cassidy took one of his stars, put it in her pocket, and ran off with the other Clue Crackers. After losing the ninja, The Clue Crackers returned to Sherwood Forest, where Robin Hood met up with them. Brad said, "Robin Hood? How did you get away from the ninja?" Robin Hood said, "I quickly escaped through the trees and shot an arrow at the ninja to ensure he didn't follow me." Cassidy said, "Maybe now we can see if this silver-throwing star is real." Judy said, "We could also work on how the witch can appear and disappear so easily." Brad said, "Ok, here's what we're going to do. We'll go back to that cottage on the hill and try to find anything related to what we already have. Robin Hood, you can stay if you want. We'll call you on the walkie if we need you." The Clue Crackers got in their van and drove up the hill to the cottage. Once they arrived, they parked their van, exited it, and investigated the cottage.
Brad opened the door, and they all walked in. Ricky said, "This must be the witch's cottage." Judy looked at the table and saw dolls that looked just like all five of them. Judy said, "Look, these dolls look just like us." Cassidy said, "Ha, she's just trying to scare us. That voodoo stuff is just a bunch of phony baloney." Brad said, "Hey, look at these books. 'Witchcraft Made Easy,' 'Everything You Want to Know About Witchcraft and Are Afraid to Ask,' 'When Good Spells Go Bad,' '101 Evil Spells and How to Break Them', and 'Spooky Spells.' Everyone takes a book and reads. We'll read the fifth one together." All The Clue Crackers read their books but couldn't find anything, so they opened the last book, "Spooky Spells," and saw a button in it. Ricky pushed the button, and it opened a secret door on the floor. Brad said, "A secret door." Judy said, "Let's follow it."
The Clue Crackers walked down the secret passage and opened a door at the bottom. Once they got inside, they saw they were back in the caves under the lake. Brad said, "We're back in the caves." Then Judy heard her walkie-talkie ringing and answered it. Judy stated into her walkie-talkie, "Yes." Robin Hood said into his walkie, "Judy, I've spotted a boat in the river. It might be worth a look." Judy stated into her walkie-talkie, "We'll be right there." The Clue Crackers returned up the secret passage, ran out of the cottage, and returned to their van. Then, they drove back to Sherwood Forest, where Robin Hood showed them the boat he had seen. The Clue Crackers all got in a boat and rowed to the ship in the river. Once they got there, they all climbed aboard and pulled Jake on board. Brad said, "Ok, now that we're all on board, let's split up." Brad pointed ahead of him and said, "Judy, you, Cassidy, and Ricky go that way." Then Brad pointed behind him and said, "Me and Jake will go this way."
Judy, Cassidy, and Ricky walked across the deck on the ship's right side and found a staircase leading up to the next floor. Ricky said, "Ladies first." Judy and Cassidy both walked up the stairs together. Judy said, "You're such a gentleman." Once they got to the top, they saw footprints on the ground. Cassidy said, "The witch was on this boat. Maybe if we follow her footprints, we can find her." Judy, Cassidy, and Ricky followed the footprints across the hall to a door. Judy tried opening the door, but it was locked so she couldn't open it.
Meanwhile, Brad and Jake were investigating the ship's left side and found a staircase leading to the deck below. While walking down the steps, the witch appeared at the bottom, scaring Brad and Jake. Then Brad and Jake ran back up the stairs screaming, and the witch chased after them. The witch chased Brad and Jake across the deck, and when they thought they lost her, they opened a door and hid in the engine room. Once the witch found the same door Brad and Jake ran into, she ran into it, too, and started to look for them. Brad and Jake walked down a few stairs, and the witch heard them. Then they hid under the staircase that they walked down, saw the witch walking down them, and Brad covered Jake's mouth so she wouldn't hear them. Then they walked back up the stairs and snuck out of the engine room without the witch knowing. After leaving the engine room, Brad and Jake returned to the staircase they saw and went below deck.
Meanwhile, Judy, Cassidy, and Ricky followed the footprints to a telescope. Then Judy looked at it and saw the telescope pointing at a truck and the ninja loading boxes onto it. She also saw the ninja bringing out a walkie-talkie and speaking into it. Judy said, "We got to follow that truck." Cassidy said, "How can we? We're stuck on this boat until we find the others." Judy called Brad on her walkie-talkie and said, "Brad, we just found something major. We got to get off this boat." Brad said in his walkie-talkie, "In a moment. I think Jake and I are onto something." Brad found a few newspaper clippings and read the headlines. Brad said, "'Ace Springfield fails to prove that the River Trent monster is real,' 'Monster cited in River Trent,' 'River Trent monster cited, but never found.'" Brad called Cassidy on his walkie-talkie and said, "Cassidy, I found a few newspaper headlines that say the monster was never found and failed to be proven." Cassidy said in her walkie, "Does it list any names?"
Brad said in his walkie, "Ace Springfield, he's the one who wanted to prove the monster exists but never did." Cassidy said in her walkie-talkie, "I think you just found the last piece of the puzzle. We need to split up one more time." Brad said in his walkie, "Agreed. We'll meet up and row back to shore. And once we do, Cassidy, you, Ricky, and Robin Hood stay behind and research this Ace Springfield guy. The rest of us will follow the truck Judy spotted. I need Judy because she's the one who spotted the truck, and I also need Jake to track whoever we're following."
All The Clue Crackers met on the deck, jumped overboard, and returned to their boat. Then they rowed back to shore, and on their way there, the monster came out of the water and attacked them. Brad shouted. "Row for it!" All The Clue Crackers rowed as fast as they could and tried to lose the monster. Brad said, "Faster, faster, he's gaining on us." The monster dived under the water and launched The Clue Crackers' boat in the air. Then, The Clue Crackers' boat landed back in the water, and they continued rowing as fast as they could while the monster chased them. Then the beast dived under the water again and launched The Clue Crackers boat in the air again. Then Judy flew out of the ship and landed on the monster's neck. Ricky said, "There goes, Judy." Brad said, "The monster's got her." Ricky said, "Or she's got it, maybe." Robin Hood then swung on a rope down to Judy, grabbed her, and swung her up to the top of a tree. Judy said, "Thanks, Robin Hood." Robin Hood said, "You're welcome. Now I got to save the others."
Robin Hood grabbed the rope he swung on to catch Judy, swung down on it again, jumped off it, and shot an arrow at the monster. Robin Hood nailed the monster's face, and it roared. Then Robin Hood landed in The Clue Cracker's boat, aimed an arrow at the monster, and shot it at him. Then he nailed his throat, and it oozed out black liquid. Robin Hood said, "Got it bleeding." Cassidy said, "That's weird. Blood is red, and that liquid is black." Robin Hood said, "Whatever. You guys get out of here. I'll hold the big guy off." Robin Hood shot an arrow at the monster and nailed him in the face. Then the monster roared and went back under the water while Robin Hood jumped out of The Clue Crackers boat and The Clue Cracker's rowed back to shore. Robin Hood jumped onto a rock, looked around for the monster, and saw its shadow in the water. Then he aimed an arrow at its shadow and launched it, but the monster swam away. While the monster was swimming, Robin Hood tried to nail him with an arrow by aiming at his shadow, but the monster was swimming too fast. Robin Hood then got an idea and shot an arrow across the lake. The monster saw the arrow fly across the lake from under the water and thought Robin Hood had missed it. Then Robin Hood's arrow flew through a tree branch and cut it off the tree. Then the tree branch fell off the tree, sank in the river, and bonked the monster on its head. Then, the branch rose to the surface and floated in the water. Then, the arrow Robin Hood launched landed on a large rock at the top of a hill and made it roll down the hill it was on.
Then the rock rolled down the hill, landed in the river, and nearly hit the monster. Then, Robin Hood sat down and laughed because his plan worked. Then Robin Hood grabbed a vine, swung down on it, and rejoined The Clue Crackers. Brad said, "Bravo, Robin Hood. Now let's split up." Brad, Judy, and Jake got in their van, and Judy drove them to where she saw the ninja loading boxes onto a truck. All three hid behind a rock, peered over it, and saw the ninja getting in the car and driving away. Then Brad, Judy, and Jake returned to their van and followed the ninja wherever he went.
Meanwhile, Cassidy, Ricky, and Robin Hood researched Ace Springfield. Cassidy clicked on a link and read the article about him. Cassidy said, "Ace Springfield tried to put in newspaper pictures to prove that the River Trent monster existed 48 times." Ricky said, "But it says here that they were never published, and Ace was ignored." Cassidy said, "What better way to prove the monster is real than to make one himself?" Ricky said, "But that still doesn't explain the witch or ninja." Cassidy snapped her fingers and said, "I bet I can. The only thing left to do is capture those three goons."
Meanwhile, Brad, Judy, and Jake followed the ninja into town, down an alley, and into a secret passage in the wall. Meanwhile, Cassidy, Ricky, and Robin Hood followed the van's tire tracks and tried to find the others. Ricky said, "Hey, Cassidy. Where do you suppose they are right now? If we don't find them before the villain does, they're goners." Once they got into town, Robin Hood put his hood back on so no one would know who he was. Then, all 3 of them ran across town and followed the tire tracks to an alley and a dead end. Cassidy said, "That's weird; they couldn't have just driven through the wall." Ricky said, "I wonder." Ricky knocked on the wall but thought it felt solid. Ricky said, "I'll keep tapping this wall. Cassidy, you knock on the left wall. Robin Hood, you knock on the right one." All three knocked on the walls, but they all felt solid.
While Ricky was knocking, he found a loose brick, pushed it into the wall, and a secret passage opened in the wall. Ricky said, "How do you like that? The tire tracks lead into a secret passage." Cassidy, Ricky, and Robin Hood walked in, and the secret passage closed once they got in. Cassidy said, "Robin Hood, you can take your hood off; you're perfectly safe here." Robin Hood removed his hood and looked around the secret passage with Cassidy and Ricky. While looking around, they found their van but didn't see anyone in it, so they figured the others must be there somewhere.
Meanwhile, Brad, Judy, and Jake were spying on the ninja. Brad said, "I wonder what he's up to." Judy grabbed Brad and held his mouth shut. Judy whispered, "Quiet, he'll hear you." The ninja opened one of the boxes he loaded onto his truck and brought out a giant diamond. Judy whispered, "A diamond, just like we saw in the caves." Brad whispered, "I bet the other boxes in the truck are filled with crystals and diamonds, too." Judy whispered, "We must stop that wacko before he finds us." The ninja sliced the box they were hiding behind in half with his sword and found them. The ninja said, "Too late for that." Judy yelled, "RUN!" Brad, Judy, and Jake ran for their lives, and the ninja chased after them.
While Cassidy, Ricky, and Robin Hood were looking for the others, Brad, Judy, and Jake ran by them. Then, Cassidy, Ricky, and Robin Hood watched them run and wondered why they were running. They turned around, saw the ninja coming, and then ran for their lives with the others. Brad said, "Quick, to the exit." The ninja pulled a lever and put an iron wall ahead of the secret passage so they couldn't escape. The Clue Crackers and Robin Hood all ran around the lair while being chased by the ninja. Cassidy said, "We can't run like this forever. We need to set a trap." Then the ninja jumped and threw silver-throwing stars at them. Then they all hid, and the ninja ran right by them. Cassidy said, "That was close. Now, we need to think of a trap. And I know just how to do it." Cassidy whispered her plan to them, and they all agreed to it.
Ricky and Jake looked for the ninja but couldn't find him anywhere. Then, a silver-throwing star landed by their feet, and they turned around and saw the ninja. Ricky said, "I think the ninja found us. RUN!" Ricky and Jake returned to the trap, and the ninja ran after them. Then the ninja threw silver-throwing stars at them, but Robin Hood shot them away with arrows, and Ricky and Jake ran off. Then Robin Hood stood between two stacks of boxes and said, "Catch me if you can." Robin Hood ran off, and the ninja brought out his sword and chased him. Then Judy and Cassidy pulled two opposite sides of a rope, tripped the ninja, and the ninja slid to the place they marked with an X. Brad said, "Robin Hood, now." Robin Hood shot one of his arrows up, cut a rope with it, and a cage dropped down and landed on the ninja. Judy said, "The trap worked. We got him." Brad said, "Time to find out who's behind this once and for all."
Judy took off the ninja's mask and saw the witch under it. Judy said, "The witch?" Judy unmasked the witch, and Brad recognized him. Brad said, "It's Ace Springfield." Judy said, "But why?" Cassidy said, "He wanted to prove the monster existed." Brad said, "But how did you know it was a fake?" Cassidy took the remote control they found in the castle from Ace's pocket and pushed a button. Then the monster came to them and roared at them. Cassidy said, "This monster is robotic. My first clue was this remote control we found in the castle. Ace used it to control the monster. My next clue was when I tore a piece of the monster's skin off. Ace covered the robot's metal body with a rubber suit to make it look real. And my next clue was when the monster oozed black stuff. That stuff wasn't blood, it was oil." Brad said, "I get it; he used the fake monster to scare everyone into believing it was real." Robin Hood said, "What about the monster's disappearance?" Judy said, "The sonar map I found on Ace's computer led to the underwater cave where the crystals and diamonds were. When he wanted to make it look like it had vanished, he used his remote to make it swim into the underwater cave. Then, everyone would think it disappeared. He also used it to guard his crystals and diamonds; that's why it attacked us when we were in the cave."
Ricky said, "But what about the fortune in the wallet that we found?" Cassidy said, "Ace is a millionaire, and that wallet belonged to him. He's a millionaire because he sold some of the crystals and diamonds he found in the cave for a ton of money." Judy said, "And those magnets with shark fins were used to pull underwater treasures that weren't in the caves, like the diamonds and crystals we found." Ricky said, "And once they arrived at the cottage at the top of the hill, Ace would collect the treasure and use the witch costume to keep people away from the cottage." Ricky showed them the spell book labeled "Spooky Spells" and said, "He even used this spell book to hide the button that activated the shortcut to the caves where he could keep an eye on the crystals and diamonds." Brad said, "And he loaded them in boxes that he loaded onto a truck that he would take back here to sell them for more money."
Cassidy said, "What about the disappearing act the witch pulled?" Judy said, "When Ace was dressed as the witch, he threw a tiny smoke bomb that was almost impossible to see. So, when he wanted to appear and disappear, he cast a smoke screen and made it look like he could do it. He even threw one at me in the castle, and I fell through a trap door on the floor." Cassidy said, "But I checked it; there was no trap door." Ace said, "That's because I locked it after I vanished and walked down a secret passage on the floor, and I locked that one too." Cassidy said, "We also found a notepad the monster dropped." Brad said, "But you said it was hard to read." Cassidy said, "It was because we didn't have a mirror. Judy, may I borrow your compact." Judy gave Cassidy her compact, and Cassidy held the notepad up in the mirror. Cassidy said, "See, you can read it when it's held in a mirror. It says, 'Made in China'."
Brad said, "But one thing still puzzles me. How Cassidy? We didn't have any suspects; how did you know it was him." Cassidy said, "When you read me that newspaper article from the boat, and I did some research, I found out his pictures weren't published, and he was ignored. He wanted to make sure he got the attention he deserved." Ace said, "And I would have gotten away with it too if it wasn't for you meddling kids, your dumb dog, and that outlaw." Then, The Clue Crackers and Robin Hood left Ace's lair and handed him to the police. After they handed Ace over to the police, Robin Hood wore a disguise and went into town with The Clue Crackers. Once they got into town, The Clue Crackers and Robin Hood all went into town to celebrate the monster being gone with the other villagers of Nottingham.
