Chapter 3 - Getting Summoned

A few days after that incident at the hospital, the frail girl regained consciousness but she couldn't respond to any stimuli.

The Doctors suggested to discharge her and spend time with her loved ones since her body didn't have an issue except her anemic condition, that they didn't comment upon.

Nothing much happened until a few months later, though.

Inside a large mansion with tons of luxurious furniture, soft rugs, beautiful chandeliers, vast garden, cars, pavements, study rooms and whatever one might wish to have.

In such a dream-like place, a girl wearing maid attire walked across a hallway, pushing a wheelchair on the first floor of the mansion.

The form of a young girl with unfocused eyes sat on the wheelchair, her black hair was dirty and oily as if left unwashed for weeks.

Creak

With a sudden creaking sound, a door to some room opened in the hallway.

The sound caught the maid's attention but she smiled immediately after seeing who it was.

As she expected, a sweet and bubbly voice sounded from the figure that dashed out of the wide open door on the left of the maid.

"Oh, it's Reila... and sister," the childish voice turned a bit sad as she mentioned her sister.

"Greetings, Young Miss," Reila bowed in respect, to bring the young girl out of her sad and guilty thoughts.

"Aww, how many times have I told you not to talk to me like that? You aren't much older to me."

Seeing that Reila wasn't going to yield, the young girl who was speaking changed the topic.

"Were you taking sister to the garden? To get her some fresh air?"

Reila nodded, knowing full well where this conversation was going and that she had no choice but to accept the arrangement.

"Then can I take her?" The girl requested with a beaming smile.

"You know, Young Miss, I can't–" Reila was interrupted by the girl's begging voice.

"Please! Pretty please! I am bored of all the studying."

The girl made a puppy expression as she requested. Adding her sweet, kind voice to the mix, it melted Reila's heart as she nodded absentmindedly.

"Thank you!!" The girl exclaimed as she took the reins of the wheelchair and started running ahead, not giving Reila any chance to change her decision.

"Young Miss! Be careful!!" Reila advised, before she turned around and left. She knew all too well that her advice would fall on deaf ears, yet a small smile plastered on her face thinking, 'Young Miss is such a sweet girl!'

The young girl, the sister, or rather half-sister, of the one who sat on the wheelchair, pushing the wheelchair had a kind and benevolent smile on her face all this while when she started pushing the wheelchair.

The kind and bubbly expression of the girl morphed into one of disdain abruptly without any notice as she stopped in her tracks and turned the wheelchair to face the stairs in front of her.

The expression on the blonde haired girl with light brown eyes was frightening to the point that anyone who knew her wouldn't believe that she could make such a cold expression no matter how many proofs one gave them.

She stood right in front of her sister on the wheelchair as she bent down to match her sister's eye level while lifting her chin with her fingers.

"My dear sister. You are such a burden, why don't you just die? Oh, wait! I know! It's because I need your blood to live."

She said in a cold and chilling tone that was enough to send shivers down one's spine but she wasn't done just yet.

"But that ends, now. You know, don't you? I am going to get summoned just like mom and dad. Then, there is no then. The need to keep you alive is no longer there from today onwards!"

As she ended her words, she kicked the wheelchair down the stairs with a snicker and a smile on her face.

Unbeknownst to the girl, the crippled girl had been listening to everything that happened since the last time she had awakened in the hospital.

She couldn't control her body but she understood a lot of things in the meantime.

'This isn't my world. But my name is Cordelia here too. The one who pushed me is my half-sister Lily.'

That was all she could remember before she almost crashed onto the floor with the wheelchair coming along with her stiff form.

Her body refused to listen to her commands, causing her to just give up and die once again.

'Am I going to die again?'

Time seemed to have come to complete still as her thoughts raced at lightning speed and all her previous life's memories played in her mind before this life's few memories came too.

'No, I can't die! I refuse to die! What about my family? Who will take care of them if I die? What about the last chapter of the book?'

Yes, even in her second death, her determination to read the last chapter of her favorite novel was quite strong.

Fortunately, before she could reach the bottom, both the girls' vanished into thin air mysteriously, causing not even the slightest ripple in their wake.

Crash

However, despite their disappearance, the falling wheelchair still crashed onto the floor with a loud sound, drawing the attention of no one in particular since no one was working nearby.

Still, due to the silent atmosphere, everyone in the mansion heard the loud sound and came to see what caused it.

But all they saw was an empty wheelchair that had broken into many pieces with some blood drops spread across the ground.

Gasp

Whoever arrived at the scene immediately distanced themselves from Reila because it was her duty to take care of the cripple.

Reila's form was trembling as she had been the first one to arrive and seeing the state of the wheelchair she couldn't help but think back to the cheery Young Miss.

'No way, right?'

'There is just no way the kind and sweet Young Miss could do something like that!?'

'But... No matter how I look at it... She was the only one around... But why? Why would she harm her...?

'NO! This isn't the time to think about that!'

'I need to know where are they!?'

Her thoughts raced as her form slowly crumbled to the ground, unable to believe the scenario and the seriousness of it.

"Hah! I can't believe she could do something like this!"

"Yeah? Who thought..."

The whispers of nearby servants didn't help her either but they soon quietened down and left.

All of them knew about the fiery temper of their Lord and none wished to partake in her misery.

The news naturally reached the father and step-mother of the crippled child.

Reila was immediately called upon by the two of them. She shivered under their angry gazes.

"Explain."

That was all she heard before she started answering, "M-my L-lord. Young Miss–"

"How dare you! You dare use our daughter's name to save yourself," bellowed the man in anger.

"N-no I d-dare not, my Lord. All I am saying is Young Miss had taken the wheelchair since she was tired of studying and how dare I reject the Young Miss's innocent request?"

She barely spoke through the pressure, threatening to kill her.

"Hmm. Since both of them vanished mysteriously, it can only mean one thing..." The man mumbled after a contemplative silence as he grinned in delight.

His wife not so much, 'She will die. There's no way she'll survive there, right?'

Reila also understood the implication behind their words, 'The two sisters have been summoned–'

That was the last thought she had as her vision blanked before her body fell with a resounding,
