Chapter 7 - Suspicions

The only reason Cordelia was so sure about it was that the mission was given by the 'Blue Window', which acted similar to a system that judged everything impartially and gave only doable objectives; they could be hard or easy depending upon many factors, but doable nonetheless.

'...or so it was stated in the novel,' mused Cordelia as she remembered, 'I along with several youths are in the tutorial, so it won't give insanely difficult missions that border impossibility but doable by the individual if they put in the work.'

She had full confidence in her deduction. After all, who do you take her for? She had read the book countless times to the point she could recall every single event from the book, major or minor except a selected few that she totally hated and never read more than once or not even once.

'The only issue is if I am the same age as the protagonist of the story...'

"...and what part of the novel I am in currently."

She mumbled to herself.

Despite all the memories she got from Cordelia, she had no clue on which part of the novel she was in, simply because she had no connection, not even a simple mention, in the novel.

Hence, she didn't waste time to mull over all the things as it was hundred times better for her to go and complete her Individual Mission and then gun for the Hidden Missions.

While it may seem like not a big deal because she has already proven her worth, she knew better than anyone else the significance of the points collected by the end of the day and she had wasted her precious time to just defeat a single goblin, more than an hour out of the total of twenty-four.

"At the end of the day, it will be fun to see what happens."

She mused with a small devious smirk as she slowly descended the tree, not jumping down off it in one go, as she warily looked around her surroundings.

'Damn! If not for this wound, I totally wanted to try jumping from the tree and landing with a loud sound like most novels describe like some Protagonist or hero or even villain would do.'

Tch

Clicking her tongue in displeasure, Cordelia started moving in random directions to complete her mission and kill as many monsters as possible that she encountered.

Only, it wasn't that easy,

"Shit! Did I use up all of my luck to survive till now or something?"

Cordelia grumbled in irritation since she did not find even a single shadow despite her relentless search for the past 30 minutes.

It wasn't a long time considering the number of youths in this forest, it would have a very large area, easily spanning more than thousands of kilometers.

Rustle

Ki-eik

However, it seemed that luck shone on her once again...

Or maybe it did not.

After all, another goblin just sneaked an attack on her, just near the previous closed wound.

"Fuck you! Fuck your race! Go die!"

Frustrated by not finding anything for thirty minutes and worried that someone would steal the hidden places she knew about, Cordelia attacked aggressively while cursing out loud, using her vicious and poisonous tongue.

If only the goblin could hear her, it would have said something along the lines of, "That's what we want! To fuck you!". Sadly or gladly, they couldn't converse.

Back to the scene, the goblin had successfully left a small cut just above her ass, fueling her smoking anger and frustration of her situation.

"Shit! Why do you little twats have to be so tiny, like midgets? If you keep attacking my ass, how am I supposed to sit, huh? Tell me, huh? Why not making any noises now, huh?"

She cursed wildly without any restraint while stabbing the goblin again and again, even if had already died.

"Ah fuck! Why am I so petulant? I used to be such a polite and gentle lady but you lil' shits got me all angry!!"

Ptui

Venting her emotions, she spat and kicked the dead goblin, who did not even get the time to scream in anguish, when getting attacked, cursed and questioned, if could even be called being questioned.

"Damn!"

Cordelia cursed while rubbing her back over her hip where the tip of the spear had poked her, trying to crane her neck and look at her wound but her fragile body creaked in pain, not allowing her to even look at her wound.

"Luckily, I was alert or another wound would be on my back. Also, I am glad it isn't poisoned or something."

'I need to be more careful, given these little twats and midgets are my primary goal.'

After cursing and releasing her restrained anger, Cordelia had a calm mind as she realized her shortcomings.

"Well, I don't have any fighting skills, so it makes sense. I mean this body was crippled, on a wheelchair, used as a blood bank..."

Cordelia's frustrated expression changed to an enraged one when she thought about it but...

'Those bastards. They are too strong for the current me, maybe even in the near future...'

The only thing relieving her at the current moment was that she had learned self-defense in her past life since she was in school.

"I have gotten rusty," mumbled Cordelia as she massaged her sore muscles as well as her loin where two wounds now existed.

Ding!

Luckily, it seemed the blue window understood her and only now did she get the notification...

'...or the goblin died just now after listening to my ramblings.'

She shuddered at the latter thought and decided to check the blue window, not delving into it.

[You have successfully subjugated a Goblin]

[Reward: 5 Points]

Just as Cordelia looked at the notification, another chime sounded in her ears.

'Must be the Individual Mission...'

Ding!

[Individual Mission: Subjugate 50 Monsters(20 must be goblins)]

[Mission Progress: 1/50 Monsters(1/20 Goblins)]

[Mission Reward: 300 Points]

[Failure Penalty: Final score will be 30% of your collected score]

[Tip: Mission Progress won't change from monsters subjugated with help but points will be rewarded for them!]

Sigh

"Just why did the author put the entire descriptions again and again in her novel? It was annoying then and more so in real life..."

Just as Cordelia mumbled her dissatisfaction and irritation, she stopped abruptly as her mouth opened wide with an expression saying: I am an idiot, ain't I?

"Why did I think the author put it here?"

"I mean I am in this world which was just a book?"

"So, does it make it a book or a real world?"

Cordelia suddenly facepalmed herself and stopped in her tracks.

"Oh Lia, my dear Lia. Just how much of an idiot can you be?"

She chided herself before retorting.

"I have read so many transmigration novels so why am I thinking like them? Don't all of them come to the same conclusion?"

"This world is as real as mine. It's not just some pages written by an author."

Cordelia felt like a realization dawned on her even before she could have thought of people as mere objects or some cringeworthy concept popped in her mind.

Shaking her head, she resumed her cautious walk in another random direction to find more monsters.

'But who sent me here? Usually, it's the authors who are Gods or something but can it really be true?'

Cordelia couldn't help but doubt her own situation.

She was plenty sure that anyone in her situation would do so.

'They would need to be an idiot to not doubt their transmigration.'

Cordelia kept her guard up since she had already suffered twice from sneak attacks.

As the famous saying goes,

'Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice, still shame on me.'

"Wait, something is plenty wrong with this famous expression. And didn't I get attacked twice?"

"Nah, nevermind. Maybe the speaker was just too stupid..."

Ahem

Ahem
