Coral nodded gratefully and quickly grabbed a small plate, putting some chicken and a few other bits of food on it. She made her way back to the stairs, only to almost bump into the maid, who was carrying a tray of dishes.
"Oops, sorry!" Coral said, trying to balance the plate of food behind her back while sidestepping the maid.
The maid gave her a bemused look. "Be careful, young lady. You almost made me drop everything."
"Sorry, really!" Coral said, finally making it to the stairs without further incident.
She rushed back to her room, closing the door behind her with a sigh of relief. The cat came from his hiding spot, his nose twitching as he smelled the food.
"Here you go," Coral whispered, placing the plate on the floor. "I hope you like chicken."
The cat purred happily and began eating, while Coral sat down on her bed, "That was too close," she murmured, watching her new friend enjoy his meal.
