Chapter 63 - Not the bachelor

POV

Millie

I haven't moved from my spot on the living room couch since X left. I have an absolute awful feeling about this weekend, that I just can't shake.

I'm feeling lonely in this huge penthouse all by myself, thank god Steph and the girls agreed to come hang with me tomorrow, otherwise, I'd drive myself into insanity. I called my mom after X left to unload my stress.

X texted me about an hour ago that he's already missing me, which makes me feel a fraction better than I did before he left. He promises to not do anything stupid and I sure as hell hope he follows through with that.

I eventually get up from my now warm spot on the leather couch, getting ready for bed, laying there between his sheets while he is downstairs doing only god knows what.

The sunlight coming from the balcony door is shining right on my face causing me to squint as I lazily open my eyes. I get this awful feeling in the pit of my stomach, I sit up on the bed with urgency. No sign of X being here in bed with me last night. I hastily rip the comforter and sheets off the bed looking for my phone.

"Finally," I say to myself as I spot my phone on the edge of the bed. I take it in my hand pressing the button on the side bringing it to life.

A text from X,

Hey babe, I'm going to be staying with Julian this weekend. Sleep well and have fun with the girls tomorrow.

He sent that at 2:06 am. Okay good, everything is good. I need to knock it off with the unnecessary stress. He's literally in the same house as me right now.

I text him back

Hey, missin' you. How'd last night go?

It's only 8:45 so I'm sure he's still asleep. I make the bed and get into the shower to get myself ready for this evening with the girls.

After my shower, I put on a pair of denim shorts and a short-sleeved shirt. I do my hair in beachy waves, add mascara to my lashes, and apply a matte, Maude-colored lipstick.

For the next few hours, I research a few things for my upcoming job, I want to be as prepared as possible when I start. I emailed Marlene to let her know I'm excited to start working with her and the team, I typed out my findings on their upcoming project.

I get a text from X,

It was fine babe. Missing you too. I'll be back with you tomorrow.

Tomorrow can't come soon enough.

It's 5 o'clock and the girls should be here any minute. I pick out a couple of bottles of wine and take out some glasses, I search the fridge finding some cheese that sits on a shelf to pair with the expensive wine.

There's a knock on the door and I hear chatter from the other side, they're here.

I open the door to let them in, I'm surprised to see Slim sitting on a chair with his head down and phone in hand. What is he doing here?

The girls come in and take in the beauty of X's penthouse.

"Wow!" Mia says, "this is even better than I imagined."

"I told you," Steph says to her.

"Oooh! Wine!" Alina says running to the kitchen counter to open it.

"What is Slim doing here?" I ask to whoever is listening.

They shrug their shoulders.

I pull out my phone to text X,

What is Slim doing outside the penthouse?

Ellie is pouring everyone's glasses of wine and walks over to me handing me one, "You're so lucky Millie, I'm jealous."

Of what? This lonely penthouse? Of the anxiety that comes with loving this man who'll never love you back? Or are you jealous of the insane amount of drama that comes with it all? Nothing to be jealous of Ellie…

I say none of that though, I just give her a small smile and thank her for the wine she handed me.

I feel my phone vibrate in the back pocket of my shorts. It's X.

Just extra protection baby, nothing to be alarmed by, I have my guys in rotation for tonight.

I roll my eyes at his text although he's unaware.

The girls and I bring our glasses of wine along with the bottle and cheese to the living room. We set our things down on the wooden coffee table that sits in front of the leather couch.

We all sit down and Steph grabs the remote from the coffee table to turn on the oversized TV that sits mounted to the fireplace. I love all the fireplaces in this penthouse. It gives such a warm cozy vibe to an otherwise way too big space. This fireplace is filled with stones and the mantle has a large piece of dark wood, giving it a rustic feel.

"What should we watch?" Steph asks us all.

"Oh! I really want to start the new season of The Bachelor!" Alina says all excited.

"Ugh!" I groan and roll my eyes.

Fuck yes! I've been just dying to watch it too.

"Well, what do you want to watch then?" Steph asks me.

"Oh…no, it's fine you can put it on, I'm sure I'd be overruled anyway," I say sounding defeated.

C'mon, put it on already Steph!

"The bachelor it is then.." Steph says with a smile.

We sip at our wine and I very intently watch the TV but also trying to conceal my unbelievable addiction to The Bachelor by exhaling at a higher volume from time to time to keep my nonexistent uninterest in the show.

It's 11 pm and after binging four episodes, the girls call it a night but Steph sticks around.

We sit on the couch together cross-legged adding more wine to our glasses.

"I have a confession to make…" I say to Steph.

"What's that babes?" She asks.

"I secretly love The Bachelor," I admit.

She laughs, "I know you do, I'm your best friend, I know you better than you know yourself."

I laugh now too and roll my eyes.

"So what's going on with you and Julian?" I ask her.

She shrugs her shoulders, "We're gonna meet up sometime tonight whenever he's done at the club."

I don't know why, but I feel an immense amount of jealousy about them getting together tonight.

Wait….I thought X was staying with Julian tonight…ugh who knows what their plans are, I'm always left in the dark.

Steph and I chat for another hour before she heads back to her suite.

I clean up tonight's mess and when I'm done, I walk into the bedroom stripping off my clothes and putting one of X's black short-sleeved shirts on.

I get all snuggled in the bed, I can't wait to have X back all to myself again in just a few hours, I've really missed him. I drift off to sleep with him in my thoughts.

I wake up to a loud knocking at the front door. I grab my phone from the nightstand, 3:30 am? What the fuck?

I cautiously walk to the door and open it.

"Ghost?" I ask in confusion.
