Chapter 54 - Future or not

POV

Millie

X is sitting at a large espresso-colored desk with his head in his hands. He lifts his head up and looks at me, surprised that I'm still here or surprised that I just barged through his office without knocking, I'm not sure and I don't care.

I walk over to him and sit on his desk in front of him, never breaking eye contact. "X, I don't want to go, I just thought maybe you did," I say gripping the wood beneath me.

"No." He says shaking his head.

"I don't care what the future holds anymore, I don't care if it never goes anywhere or if it does, what I do care about though, is you, right now, today. I'd rather have this little bit of time with you than never have it at all." I say losing my breath after my speech.

He stands up towering over me and bends down, taking both of his hands behind my neck and bringing me in for a passionate kiss. He breaks the contact and puts his forehead to mine, "me too baby, me too," he whispers.

"Please stop running from me," he says in an almost quieter plea.

"I promise," nodding my head against his.

He kisses my forehead, leaving his lips lingering there for a few seconds, and then asks, "Can I sleep next to you tonight?" And I nod my head.

He pulls me off of his desk with his hands on my hips and releases me, only to hold my hand instead and guides me out of the room and into his bedroom.

He never breaks contact with our hands even as we lay down. He cradles me into him and I feel like he's home to me. I haven't felt this at peace and safe in so long. Although he claims to not be a cuddler, he sure is proving himself wrong right now. We lay side by side, as close as one can be until we both drift off to sleep.

I wake up with X still wrapped around me and his arm tightly around my waist as if it weren't there, I'd escape in the middle of the night.

I hear a loud knock coming from the front door of the penthouse. I try to sit up but X holds onto me even tighter bringing me back to him.

"No," he says in a groggy, sleepy state.

"Someone is knocking on your door," I say.

"Fuck 'em." He says and inhales deeply into my hair.

The knock grows louder and more persistent.

"Ugh!" He grunts in frustration.

He releases my body from his and sits up on the bed. He runs his fingers through his disheveled hair, unsuccessfully smoothing it down. He shakes his head in annoyance and says "I'll be right back."

"Okay," I say quietly.

He slowly and tirelessly walks out the bedroom door as the knocking continues. I sit on the bed curious as to who is at the door.

I hear talking and that's when I hear familiar voices, I peek out the bedroom door and that's when I see Adria and Ghost. I'm about to hide back in the room, but not before Ghost makes eye contact with me.
