Jackson's POV
As I got out of the car, I felt anxious and nervous. My heart was beating out of my chest as I caught sight of my father, standing across the balcony in the distance. The minute he saw me, he turned around and walked into his room. I knew right then that he was coming down to see me.
I parked my car into the garage and then walked inside the house. It felt rather strange seeing as every time I came to our house I was drunk. hangover or something. I felt like I was going for one of those court trials. Only this time the judge was my father and I needed to impress him. As I walked further into the house a sense of déjà vu rested in the air. I found my dad already seated on the sofa in the living room. The minute his eyes connected with mine, he stood up, inviting me to sit with him. There was a smile on his face, something I had really seen before. He was excited and he was happy. oddly that made me nervous. He kept looking over my back. Staring out the door and a safe waiting for someone.
' So? where is she?' he asked and to which I caught on immediately.
' We agreed that she would come visit next week.'
' Why?' my father asked immediately.
' Well she has a lot of checkups this week because of the pregnancy and she has been tired lately. I think it's just pregnancy hormones.' I answered hoping he wasn't seeing through my b*******.
His shoulders fell as he rested back on the sofa but his eyes never left mine. At this point, I wasn't sure whether I could come up with another lie again.
' Then tell me more about her. What is she like? Where did the both of you meet? How long have you been together? I sat up as I stared at him. While those questions seemed simple they were honestly difficult.
'Dad, don't you think that it's best to hear it from her? Just know that she's amazing. And she's the love of my life. She is kind and incredible. She's beautiful. She has a good heart. She has an eye for business and she is honestly intelligent. She's currently about to graduate at the University of Law in California.'
' A smart woman. Well you definitely made the right choice there.' He said almost hesitantly.
' Well, is she anything like your mother?' he joked. ' You know we always seem to have the same taste in women.' he said and I couldn't help but feel disgusted.
I smiled slightly as I answered. 'I think Mum is going to like her. She's a well mannered girl. She knows what she wants in life and she is the girl of my dreams. She's well principled. She's honestly my opposite. She inspired me to want to get my life together and think about what's best for my future.'
' She seems lovely. I would love to meet her. Seeing as she has such a wonderful influence on you. Where is she from?' he asked and I felt thick sweat breaking down my face.
' She is just from around.'
' Perhaps her father and I are from the same Society? What's her family name?'
I knew this wasn't headed well. My father expected me to marry a woman of the same status. billionaires of the same neighborhood often form a society where we throw galas and fashion shows and parties and invite each other. It's a tradition that has been happening for years now. how was I going to tell her that not only was she from a poor background but she was also an orphan raised from one foster home to another. come on son. you have to give me something. He joked and I smiled slightly.
'Cooper. Her name is Cooper.'
' Well I do know Mr Cooper with the ranch, but he doesn't have a daughter.'
' Dad you don't know her father.' I chimed in and his eyes met mine.
' So what society is he from? What kind of business are they into?'
' Father please.' I grunted, feeling frustrated.
' What? I just want to know my in-laws.'
It was at that moment that I realized this was serious. My father expected Marriage from the two of us. My only plan was a fake relationship to get me the company.
' Her name is Hannah Cooper and she lives in Eldilos.'
' Elder-what?'
'She's not like you and me.' My tone was low while i avoided his eyes.
'What do you mean?' His tone increased.
'She's a normal person. With a beautiful family. They work hard there. They make ends meet and they are nice people. So is she.' I spoke, smiling slightly. My father's eyes remained fixed on me, not saying a thing. 'She's amazing, and she's beautiful. She doesn't care about money. She is the most kind and hardworking girl I've ever met.'
'She's POOR?' My father sounded out the last word like it was disease. He got up abruptly, meeting my eyes. 'You will not marry a poor girl.'
'Dad!'
'I've heard enough of this. You're not gone to marry some poor pity girl living in a neighborhood whose name is like a cereal brand. We have a reputation to uphold.'
He was angry and his voice was filled with disgust when she talked about her. While I was very skeptical about Hannah I knew that my father's description was not accurate. I had my doubts about her. especially seeing as she had returned a gift that any other girl would jump at. she didn't seem to be a good digging girl but I couldn't judge too early. however I knew she was kind and that her character was good seeing as she wanted to raise this child instead of get rid of it. you asked me to settle down and I told you I had someone. I loved her father and I will not hear this nonsense anymore. you're not going to marry that girl. you are not going to bring her into this house. do not disgrace us like this son.
'But dad, I.'
'That is the end of this discussion! Cooper, or whatever their name is, will be getting nothing from us!'
He stormed out before I could respond, leaving me standing there. I stared up, meeting my mother's eyes, at the top of the grand staircase, giving me a disapproving look.
That was it, they'd rejected her before I even presented her to them. What was I going to do?
