Chapter 37: Coming to an empty bed
Moth returned to the woman's side, carrying the boiled herbs with him. He sat down next to her, and his son looked at him expectantly. "Do you want to treat her?" the boy asked, and Moth nodded.
He moved closer to the woman, placing his head against her chest to check for a heartbeat. He let out a sigh of relief when he heard the steady thump of her heart. Her breathing was shallow and labored, but she was still alive.
He lifted her head slightly, and Moth held it up with one hand. "Cup," he called to his son, and Zana rushed to get one. A moment later, he returned with a cup and handed it to his father.
Moth dipped the cup into the boiled herbs, and it immediately filled with smoke. He took a deep breath, then filled the cup with the smoky liquid.
