Chapter 6 - It's her wedding day

Nyx stretched on the bed and yawned. She rubbed her eyes gently and sat up on the bed.

She looked around and became dazed for a while, "This isn't my room." She shook her head.

It took her a while to realise that she was in Oberon's room and not hers.

She bit her lips, closed her eyes for a while and exhaled. Today was her supposed wedding day, a wedding she didn't want, it led her to another whole level in life, something she wasn't prepared for.

There was a knock on her door, "Come in."

A maid entered the room, holding her wedding dress, another came in holding a tray filled with ointments.

"Good morning, my Lady." They both greeted her.

"Uh... Good morning." She replied a little hesitant.

"My Lady, his Majesty had told us to get you ready, the wedding is in a few hours." The first maid said.

She nodded slowly, did she have any other choice but to get ready?

She got down from the bed.

"I've prepared your bath, my Lady." The second maid said.

She blinked, "Thank you." She headed to the bathroom.

She sighed when she got in, she was trying so hard to fight her tears. She sniffed and took off her clothes.

"Welcome to your new life now Nyx." She said to herself, "I have to adjust with it, I have no choice." She wiped her eyes.

She got into the bath and did her thing. The water was so warm and relaxing that for a moment she wished all her worries and fears would just soak in the water. She stayed in the bath for a very long time, she wasn't in a hurry to be the Luna anyway.

When she was done, she dried herself with a towel. She came out of the bathroom and saw the maids arranging some of her stuff.

"Who are you guys?" She asked.

The first one spoke, "I'm Gladys my Lady and this Yvonne. We are your personal maids my Lady." She curtsied.

"My personal maids? You both are my maids?" She asked in disbelief.

"Yes my Lady. We're your maids." Yvonne nodded.

Nyx creased her brows, she was used to being a maid all her life but this surprised her, she had never imagined having maids under her.

"Okay if you say so." She nodded.

"We have to get you ready my lady." Gladys spoke up.

Nyx nodded and sat on a chair.

"Can I trust you both?" She said after a while.

"Of course my lady, you can trust us completely." Gladys replied.

She exhaled, "I don't want to get married." She said quietly.

"Why is that my Lady?" Yvonne asked.

"I'm not ready for it, especially not a position as sensitive as this." She shook her head slightly.

Gladys nodded, "I understand my Lady, but sometimes we just have no control over her destiny." She picked up a comb and combed her hair.

"I wish I did." She said.

"It's okay my Lady, you don't have to be scared, her Majesty is very kind. She'll take good care of you and besides you have us now." She smiled at her in the mirror.

"Yes my Lady, you now have us." Yvonne chipped in.

Nyx felt loved for the first time since in a long time, "Thank you so much, no one has ever listened to me before." She said with so much appreciation in her eyes.

"You're welcome my Lady." Gladys grinned.

Elena walked in, "Oh, you're getting her ready. In a few hours, the marriage rites will begin."

The maids bowed, "Good morning your Majesty." They both said in unison.

She nodded, "Good morning."

Nyx also stood up and bowed, "Good morning your Majesty." She said softly.

Elena smiled at her, "Good morning my dear, how are you feeling now?"

"I'm much better your Majesty." She returned the smile.

She turned to face the maids, "Make her look as gorgeous as ever, I want her to be so captivating, even Oberon wouldn't want to take his eyes off her."

They nodded, "Yes your Majesty."

She looked at Nyx and smiled again, "I'll be downstairs if you need me."

She nodded, "Yes your Majesty." She nodded.

Elena walked out of the room steadily and closed the door behind her.

Gladys began to pack her hair in a rosy bun, "You will be ready in no time, my Lady." She said.

Nyx was all set in her wedding dress. She wore a white ball gown that has right fitting arms, it was a round neck and had white roses pinned to it.

Her hair was packed in a rosy bun, golden pins, pinned to the roses.

"You look very beautiful my lady." Yvonne complimented her.

"Yes my Lady, you look like the moon goddess herself." Gladys said.

She blushed hard,"Thank you."

"I think it's time we head downstairs." Yvonne said.

She nodded. They held her arms and led her out of the room.

Everyone downstairs were waiting for them.

Nyx felt a knot tie in her chest, she was so nervous. She gulped down nervously and tried to hide her fears.

They got to the hall, and all heads turned to look at her. She held her head high but her gaze low, walking as graciously as she could.

They got to the seat specially arranged for the soon to be wedded couples. They helped her sit down and left her to be by herself.

She fiddled with her fingers trying not to maintain eye contact with anyone.

It would be a few minutes before the groom would arrive. Thoughts were already racing in her mind.

She wished she could just scream and run away, nobody would be able to find her.

A hand tugged her arm gently, she looked up to see who it was.

"Mother?" She blinked in surprise.

Lisa gave her a wide smile, "My precious little diamond is getting married." She pretended to be emotional.

Nyx was confused for a while, "Mother why are you..."

Lisa gestured for her to be quiet, "I wish you a very happy married life and lots of beautiful children." She held her cheeks.

It soon dawned on Nyx that her mother was faking all these, she once again had to hide her sadness because it was her wedding day.

"Thank you mother." She smiled a little.

She leaned close to Nyx, "I hope we get rid of you as soon as possible. Don't you try upsetting the royal family and I don't want you to do anything that will make them send you back home." She said sternly.

Nyx nodded, "Yes mother." She gulped.

Lisa drew back with a wide smile and walked back to her seat.

A guard soon informed the guests about the arrival of the groom.

Nyx was very nervous now. She rubbed her hands together in nervousness and dropped her gaze.

Everywhere went quiet when Oberon entered. They all bowed, acknowledging his presence He took slow, graceful steps to his seat.

He sat beside Nyx and straighted up. Nyx was already sweaty in her palms.

There was silence for a while.

Then he spoke up.

"Let the marriage ceremony begin!"
