Nyx sat beside Oberon in the throne room, the elders before them. They paid their homage to him before settling down properly.
"We thank his highness for honoring our invitation." The elderst of them spoke up.
Oberon waved his hand signaling him to speak up.
He nodded and continued, "Your highness, we are very glad now that you have found your mate, the coronation was a success as a result." He smiled.
Oberon nodded, "Yes, go on."
"Therefore, the next thing is to produce an heir and secure your throne." He said.
Oberon frowned, "Produce an heir? Is that not too quick?" He asked.
Another elder spoke up, "No your Majesty, definitely not, you need to secure your throne now, you can not risk your throne for someone else." He said.
Oberon clenched his fists, he looked at Nyx and then back at the elder standing in front of him.
"Why? Does the pack demand an heir now? Do you think I can just go ahead and make my wife pregnant?" He frowned.
"Your Majesty, we mean not to anger you but you know the throne needs an heir, someone who could easily secure your place, it is necessary your Majesty."
Oberon held his head, "Listen, I can not produce an heir now." He stated firmly.
The elders were taken aback, "What do you mean by that your highness?" The elderst among them spoke up again.
"That is because I am not even with my ma..." He paused, as soon as he realised he was going to spill the beans.
No one except Mark and his mother knew Nyx wasn't his fated mate. If the elders knew this, they could easily take the throne from him and give it to someone else. He dreaded the thought of that.
He took in a deep breath, "I just can not produce a heir now, all I ask for is more time." He said calmly.
"Your Majesty, we are not sure of how long we can give you, you already spent so much time looking for your mate." The second eldest of the elders chipped in.
Oberon could feel frustration pressing in on him. He held his head to prevent him from outburst.
"I said you should give me some more time, that is it. More time." He emphasized on the last two words.
They all nodded.
"You all may leave." He waved his hand.
They stood up and bowed, the meeting had come to an end, they all filled out of the throne room.
When he was certain they were gone, he cursed.
Nyx looked at him, "Why does producing an heir seem so important to them?" She arched her brow.
He stood up, his hands behind him, "I don't know."
She blinked, "I.. we are not ready yet, most especially me." She slightly rubbed her neck.
He looked at her and shook his head, she didn't even know what was going on with him right now. He paced forth and back the room.
What was he going to tell them? That he actually had not found his mate? Who would believe him?
He groaned, he knew the kind of person he was,if he decided to produce a heir through Nyx, he would definitely mark her his mate, whereas she was not.
He closed his eyes, he was at a loss of what to do.
He faced Nyx, "You should go to the room or go relax yourself. I have something to do." He walked out of the room.
Nyx stood up, walked to the center of the room and stood there , when the elders had brought up the issue of a heir, she had felt a strange feeling inside of her.
"Why do they want a heir so eargerly? Is the king not allowed to bring forth a heir at his own disposal?" She thought to herself.
"It is not as if the child would be crowned king when he is born." She shook her head.
She exhaled and walked out of the throne room heading to her room. When she got there, she walked to her bed and sat on it. This issue of bringing forth a heir troubled her.
"Even Oberon looked very worried when the elders had asked him to produce a heir soon. It is so troubling, I am not ready to be a mother, at least not anytime soon." She sighed.
There was a knock on the door, she raised her head, "Come in."
The door opened and it turned out to be Oberon's mother.
She stood up, "Good morning your Majesty." She bowed.
She flashed her a very bright smile, "I have told you times without number that you should address me as mother, I am also your mother right?"
She nodded, "Yes mother."
She gently touched her cheeks, "How are you my dear? I was passing by and just decided to check up on you."
Nyx blushed, "It is an honor to have you in here mother."
She smiled, "It seems you are fine, I will see you later this evening." She turned around.
"Mother, wait." She called.
"Yes?"
" I have a question mother." She said hesitantly.
Elena walked back towards her, "What is it? I am all ears." They both sat down on the bed.
"Why does the pack want a heir so bad?"
Elena furrowed her brows, "Need a heir badly?"
"Yes, today, the elders had told Oberon to produce a heir as soon as possible."
Elena eyes went sad, "They did that?"
"Yes."
"Uh.. I can not tell why they did that, it was not like that while Alcide was the Alpha." She avoided her eyes.
"They sounded like they really wanted to crown the child, if he were to be to born this minute, I am sure they would have crowned him the future Alpha."
Elena sighed, "I think the tradition modofies, with each Alpha, it will change."
Nyx sighed, "I am not ready to birth a child yet." She looked away.
Elena felt a pang of guilt hit her.
"Would you get me a glass of water please?"
Nyx nodded and walked to the table to get her some water.
'Please forgive me Nyx, Oberon had to marry you to save his throne, you're not even his mate, he can not mark you as his.'
Nyx knew absolutely nothing, she was just a lily flower caught up in the midst of thorns.
