Years ago, there was a volatile nation. It had come to believe that it was meant to rule over the universe and every province within it. The heads of this nation believed people wanted to be ruled and they desired to be subjugated. One man believed this so much he started his own faction from within the government and by the time they realized what was going on it was too late.
The power of this government wasn't in its words, but what they possessed. They had come to control this "Power nexus" but when he overthrew them, he made a choice that changed everything forever. He took the nexus into himself. His skin transformed from the golden bronze he had prided himself upon, into a pitch-black color and his eyes glowed bright red as if a fire burned within them. He ruled over the nation with an iron will and brought the universe to its knees.
"I will not stand for insubordination. I told you to kill that mongrel, but you hesitated, you disobeyed. I guess you will just have to be an example to the others." The man turned to face the crowds and held the boy up by his neck. He could not have been more than 14 years old but in this time, he was a man by 12. "This waste of skin disobeyed a direct order and in turn almost allowed one of those mistakes to roam free. I am trying to make this universe a better place and I will not stand for those who wish to defy me." A black cloud began to envelope the boy and his eyes widened in terror as the world around him turned black. The look of horror on the crowd's face was evident as the boy vanished into nothingness. The man looked around at the crowd and smiled. "I do not enjoy doing this to you people, but you must understand what I am trying to do here. Now, all of you go back to your homes and jobs, there will be an inspection later." He wiped off his hand and proceeded to walk back to his headquarters. The building was not much to look at as he was not a vain man and did not want the people to resent him for wealth but to fear him for power. He mumbled to himself as he walked back unsure as to why the people kept attempting to disobey him.
"Sir, may I interject something?" one of his lieutenants said. The man was of a slight build with spectacles that made his face look even more sunken than it already did. "The people may in fact just be more frightened than you believe. They do not respect you; they fear you, but they do not respect you. You cannot expect the people to follow you if they cannot believe in you. Y-"
"I do not care if they believe in me!" The leader said. "They just must lie down like dogs and follow my orders. Nothing more is expected of them. It isn't like their lives mean much more than that anyway." He turned away from the lieutenant and stalked back into his room, slamming the door behind him. The man was prone to outbursts like this, but everyone knew there was true strength behind those doors. No one ever stood up to him after his skin turned as black as looking into the void itself. They all believed he had gained some sort of unfathomable power but in all reality his latent abilities had just been awakened.
It had been many years since anyone had gained the powers of a Master Nothing but never on a scale this large. The power he took did more than just change his skin it changed his abilities. Before this point, he was just a charismatic Nothing with the abilities of shadow manipulation, but now it was full on darkness he could control. There was nothing that he could not sense in the night, and he could even destroy things with a mere touch. His powers had grown since the day he gained the power, and no one could imagine how powerful he would get one day.
However, there was a faction within the universe that believed his rule was not one of true power but of cowardice. A man hiding behind a power he stole and now forcing others to submit to his will. They had been gathering information on the man for many years and had heard about a codename that everyone agreed was befitting of the man, "The Dark Master." The name itself took on some sort of power for anyone who said it suddenly felt they were being watched or a sense of dread came over them. They believed that the time for this man's rule to end was coming soon and they would bring him to his knees no matter the costs.
