Chapter 51 - Chapter 51: Do Both of You Want to Act Alone?

Kong Jianming wasted no time and immediately instructed someone to open the box and take out the food, then started cooking.

Unlike the survivors eagerly waiting to eat, the people who had come from the base all walked out of the lobby and headed towards their own vehicles.

Su Nian and Jing Mo did the same.

The two got into the car and brushed their teeth and washed their faces.

It was too cold outside; if they washed up out there, the water for washing their faces might freeze directly on their skin.

Even inside the car, they had to quickly dry themselves off after washing.

Su Nian liked to drink porridge in the morning. A bowl of warm porridge could warm a person from the inside out.

To be able to drink porridge outside, Su Nian deliberately put the cooked porridge in a lunch box and placed it on the windowsill in the living room. At that temperature, the warm porridge would freeze solid in less than an hour, and now, when they wanted to drink it, they just needed to heat it up.

But there was no way to use a gas stove in the car, which made Su Nian feel conflicted.

Jing Mo glanced outside and pointed to a half-collapsed house, saying to Su Nian, "How about we go over there?"

Su Nian looked in the direction Jing Mo pointed and thought it was fine, so she nodded.

Jing Mo carried the gas stove and pot while Su Nian carried a large backpack.

They found a sheltered corner against the wind, put down the gas stove, lit the fire, and started heating the porridge.

The porridge in the lunch box was frozen solid and couldn't be taken out at all.

Fortunately, the material of the pot could be heated directly, so Su Nian simply placed it on the stove.

In addition to porridge, they also had scallion pancakes.

The scallion pancakes were placed directly on top of the lunch box and softened in no time.

Jing Mo took out a box from his pocket. "Pork floss, we can eat it together."

Although Su Nian also loved to eat meat, she didn't need to eat it every meal. Seeing that Jing Mo wanted to pair pork floss even with breakfast, she couldn't help but smile.

The pork floss was seaweed-flavored, and it tasted really good whether mixed in the porridge or rolled in the scallion pancakes.

Although this breakfast was simple, it was quite flavorful.

There were quite a few people like Su Nian and Jing Mo who cooked for themselves.

When a gust of wind blew, Su Nian could smell the fragrance of food mixed in it.

After breakfast, Su Nian and Jing Mo packed up their things and put them back in the car before returning to the lobby.

The lighting in the lobby was still dim. As soon as Su Nian and Jing Mo entered, they saw many people looking at them.

Being stared at by so many people didn't make Su Nian feel uncomfortable, so she just returned to her seat in the corner.

People who had gone out to eat began to return one after another. After about twenty minutes, Kong Jianming stood up. "Have everyone returned? Then let's start assigning tasks.

I have already inquired. Apart from this resort, there are survivors in the surrounding villages. Your task today is to go out and rescue survivors and bring them back.

We will only stay here for two days, and we will set off early the day after tomorrow.

Time is tight, the task is heavy, and the weather is bad. I hope everyone can unite and overcome difficulties to rescue more compatriots!"

Kong Jianming's speech was impassioned, but there weren't many people truly inspired by his words.

As soon as Kong Jianming finished speaking, someone stood up. "Captain Kong, we are not here to rescue. We are here to deal with those wild animals."

The voice was very familiar, one of the girls who had been noisy last night.

"And besides, these people can steal and rob. They're doing just fine. Why do we need to save them?"

Hearing this, Su Nian silently cursed them as fools.

Being contradicted publicly, Kong Jianming's tone also became somewhat unpleasant. "I know you're here to deal with mutant animals.

I don't know about the situation with mutant animals, but the survivors here do. Someone will brief you on the situation later.

The rest of you, come with me."

After Kong Jianming finished speaking, two-thirds of the people he brought stood up and went out with him.

Half of the people who came in private cars also followed.

It seemed that they were here to rescue survivors.

There were probably twenty or thirty people left, all here to deal with wild animals.

Seeing Kong Jianming leave, the remaining people looked at each other in dismay.

They thought that by following, they could just pick up the leftovers behind Kong Jianming and the others. But now that Kong Jianming had taken people to rescue, what were they going to do?

The girl who had just spoken looked around arrogantly and raised her chin. "He doesn't care about us. We'll figure it out ourselves. With so many of us, as long as we find someone who knows the situation, lead the way, the rest will be easy."

As soon as she said this, there were people immediately agreeing.

Su Nian had been quietly observing, but the girl suddenly looked in their direction.

"You two, why have you been silent? Don't you plan to join us?"

Su Nian shook her head decisively. "We don't intend to."

Perhaps she didn't expect Su Nian to refuse so decisively, the girl was stunned for a moment before regaining her composure.

"Don't intend to? Do both of you want to act alone?"

Su Nian gave her a cold glance. "We're not part of the same team to begin with, and there's no teamwork involved. What's wrong with acting alone?"

"But there's strength in numbers."

"You have plenty of people yourselves."

"You!" The girl was furious, snorted coldly, and said, "Fine, since you want to act alone and find death on your own, then go ahead."

Su Nian couldn't be bothered to argue with her and stood up directly.

Jing Mo followed closely behind, and the two walked out together.

When they left the lobby, they saw that there were already fewer cars in the courtyard, presumably all following Kong Jianming.

Su Nian and Jing Mo returned to their car and planned to leave.

Just then, a black figure quickly ran towards them.

Just by looking at the attire, one could tell that he was one of the original survivors here.

Jing Mo didn't rush to drive off and looked at Su Nian. "Do you want to hear what he has to say?"

Su Nian nodded. "Let's listen."

The snowy road was slippery, and there was snow on the ground. Although the man wasn't running slowly, his body swayed from side to side along the way, taking several minutes to reach the car.

He wasn't wearing a mask, huddling his body, with his neck shrunk, and many frostbites on the exposed half of his face.

Just by looking at his appearance, one could tell that he was young, probably around sixteen or seventeen

.

Jing Mo rolled down the car window. "What's the matter?"

The young man outside pursed his lips and stuttered a bit before speaking.

"Are you here to kill wild animals?"

"Yes."

"I saw those animals."

"Tell us what you saw!"

"There are a lot of them! There are wild boars! And wolf packs! And hyenas!"

Jing Mo became somewhat interested. "How did you recognize them?"
