Chapter 55 - Chapter 55: No Longer Human

"The kid's right! You better wise up! You can't escape on your own. Come out now, and you might suffer less."

"If you don't come out willingly, we'll force the car door open. Don't blame us for being ruthless then!"

Despite their threats, Su Nian remained unmoved, her gaze fixed on Jing Mo outside.

At that moment, Jing Mo took a couple of steps forward, standing by the car window and began pounding on it forcefully.

"Open the door! Hurry up and open it!"

After seeing Jing Mo wink at her, Su Nian hesitated no longer. She slowly turned her body and reached out to open the car door.

The people outside burst into laughter upon seeing Su Nian's action.

Their laughter was so hearty that their bodies shook along with it.

Su Nian opened the car door and raised her hand, firing a shot at the person closest to her.

The moment Su Nian fired, Jing Mo turned around, raised his hand, and fired several shots in quick succession.

These people were all standing at the front of the car, presenting Su Nian and Jing Mo with a chaotic opportunity to strike.

Su Nian aimed for the chest, fearing a misfire if she aimed for the head.

Jing Mo, on the other hand, seemed not to need to aim at all, his shots were all headshots.

To them, shooting people was no different from shooting wolves.

There were twelve people in total. Just moments ago, they were threatening Su Nian and Jing Mo with knives, but now they all lay on the ground.

Some had closed their eyes forever, while others were merely incapacitated, looking at Su Nian and Jing Mo with eyes full of terror.

The ones they had downed were their responsibility to deal with.

Without needing Jing Mo to fire again, Su Nian delivered another bullet to each of them.

When it came to the last person, he shook his head frantically, desperately trying to escape, but he couldn't move.

"Don't kill me! Please, don't kill me! I'll give you everything if you spare me!"

Jing Mo strolled over to him, "What can you give us?"

"All our supplies! And women! Brothers, no! Boss! We have many beautiful women at our base, all yours if you spare me."

Hearing this, Su Nian realized that the man had mistaken her for a man as well.

Su Nian was nearly 1.7 meters tall, and with her thick-soled boots, she stood even taller.

Moreover, the dark, nondescript clothing she wore, along with her tightly wrapped face and decisive killing, made it reasonable for her to be mistaken for a man.

In this man's eyes, a woman wouldn't kill so decisively.

Jing Mo showed no reaction to the man's offer, his interest clearly lacking.

Seeing this, the man grew more anxious, "And there's more! Boss, you must be craving meat, right? We have plenty!"

Jing Mo narrowed his eyes, a dark glint flickering within, "Plenty? What kind of meat? Don't tell me it's lamb?"

"It is lamb! But it's two-legged lamb! Much fresher than regular lamb!"

"Where did it come from?"

"The day before yesterday, wild animals attacked the resort, killing many. After they left, we collected the bodies!

They were dead anyway, leaving them would be a waste. Better us than the wild beasts!

We're all compatriots, helping each other is only right."

Before the man could continue, Su Nian pulled the trigger, blowing the man's head off.

Su Nian's gaze was colder than ever as she looked at the bodies on the ground, feeling a surge of anger within her.

Those who ate "two-legged lamb" were no longer human.

For these people, death was the only option left.

"We can't leave the bodies here," Jing Mo said.

It wasn't out of kindness for Jing Mo to suggest dealing with the bodies.

Leaving them would only allow others to become like them.

"Let's burn them."

Su Nian turned and went back to the car for gasoline.

Together, they dragged the bodies to the roadside, doused them with gasoline.

A single spark was all it took for the flames to erupt.

They didn't stay to watch the fire blaze but instead cleared the roadblock.

The roadblock was crudely made, incomparable to the spike strips made by Baldy and his gang.

However, they didn't discard the materials but loaded them into their car instead.

As Su Nian and Jing Mo left, the fire was still burning, unlikely to be extinguished anytime soon.

If someone decided to scavenge from the fire, that was their choice.

Everyone chooses their own path; they couldn't save everyone determined to walk towards death.

The rest of their journey was uneventful, and they safely returned to the resort.

Upon entering the resort's gates, they saw many cars parked in the lot, including those of Kong Jianming and his team.

Their car hadn't even stopped when someone emerged from the lobby and looked their way.

The person quickly turned back into the lobby, and soon after, Kong Jianming led a group towards them.

"I'll go talk to him. Do you want to come?" Jing Mo turned to ask Su Nian.

Su Nian shook her head, "You go."

She preferred not to deal too much with the base's officials, leaving Jing Mo to handle it was fine.

Jing Mo got out of the car, and Kong Jianming approached.

Standing face to face, Su Nian noticed that Jing Mo was actually taller than Kong Jianming.

Their conversation was neither loud nor soft, but close enough for Su Nian to hear clearly.

From their exchange, it was evident they were quite familiar with each other.

After some bargaining, wild boar and wolf meat were priced at one contribution point per pound.

Someone from behind Kong Jianming walked towards a large truck and soon returned with a scale.

It seemed they had anticipated this situation, otherwise, why bring a scale?

The wild boars and wolves from their car were all weighed and then loaded onto the truck.

When Jing Mo returned to the car, he had several cards in hand.

"These are the official contribution point cards, each with a thousand points. There are eight in total. Once we're back at the base, we'll transfer these to our own cards at the service center."

Su Nian examined one of the cards, noting the base's name and emblem printed on it, along with a sun in the top left corner and a serial number in the bottom right.

Compared to their own cards, the only addition was the sun in the corner.

With four cards each, they had made a significant gain from this trip.

Su Nian even felt that after this mission, she could comfortably stay in the base until the end of the harsh winter.

"Do you want to eat something before we go in?" Jing Mo asked Su Nian.

She checked her pocket watch; it was only three in the afternoon.

"Is this lunch or dinner?"
