Chapter 19 - Chapter 18: Jonathan

Chapter 18

Jonathan

"Are you really sure to work alone here, Ara? You know, we can go there first and clean, and then let's wash the dishes afterwards." Cattie asked her as she placed the dishes above the sink. Ara shook her head and smiled slightly.

"I can manage it. Help me later, okay? We can finish working faster if we distribute the task. Go ahead now, Maddie was waiting for you there. Anyway, is this the last batch?" She asked her. Cattie nodded her head, "Yes, the last one. Okay then, we will work faster there and help you here."

"Okay," Ara replied. Cattie tapped her shoulder before leaving, "This day is surely hard for you." Ara tapped her hand on her shoulder.

"Everyone had a bad day. Don't worry, I'm just fine." She assured. Cattie nodded her head and smiled.

"Right, haha. I'm going now. See you later." Ara watched her leave; slowly, Cattie vanished in her vision. When she heard the door closed, she let out a sigh and glanced at the dishes.

She's quite used to doing this job; she slowly grabbed the sponge and started washing the plates. What a long day.

The whole room was silent; only the sounds of splashing water and the sound of plates crashing into each other could be heard. Ara loves the silence. It's relaxing and calming her.

But she stopped what she was doing when she heard the door suddenly open. Did Cattie or Maddie forget something?

"You came back? Is there anything else ---" She didn't finish what she was going to say after knowing who had entered. It's not Cattie or Maddie.

"Oh, sorry, I heard a sound of water here; I thought they left the faucet open, so I entered." The man explained immediately. Oh, he doesn't need to explain. This is the kitchen. Anyone can come here.

"And I see that you were doing the dishes…" he continued. Ara was looking at him, the man awkwardly scratching the back of his head shyly. Why he's so shy?

"Oh… I'm surely interrupting you. Pardon." Ara amusedly stared at him. For a man, he's talking a lot.

"Yes, you are. But it's okay." She said and resumed her work. The man stared at her in awe; this girl made him nervous. Her cold and yet blank stares were enough to capture his attention. This is the first time he has seen her here. Is she the new maid?

He walked towards her direction; he noticed there were a lot of dishes she was cleaning. Where are the other maids? Why is she doing this alone? Are they bullying her?

"I'm Jonathan Taylorsville." He introduced himself. Ara spared him a short glance. "Arabella, Ara for short." She answered.

"Ara, that's a pretty name. It suits a pretty girl like you. Are you a new maid?" Ara wanted to roll her eyes; what's with them and their compliments?

'Geez, can they stop giving compliments? I'm not that pretty!' my mates don't want nor see me pretty at all. Ara, get over it. He's not your mate.

"Ara?" She was being pulled into reality when she felt the man touch her shoulder. She looked at him and his hand, so the man quickly removed it.

"Sorry." He apologised.

"Yes, I'm a new maid here. I just started working today. If you're asking why I'm working alone here, it's none of your business." The man's jaw dropped. This girl has an attitude.

"And one more thing, the other maids weren't bullying me." That shock him even more. How did she know? He's just thinking about that earlier.

"You can read mind?" he asked curiously.

"No." Ara denied firmly.

'Smart and sharp mouth. A feisty girl.' Ara heard him think. She won't say anything about that; she knows he's catching her. No one knew that she was a telepath except Maddie and Cattie, and she didn't have a plan to add someone to the list.

The man slightly frowned when he noticed Ara wasn't paying attention to him. All he know he got an attractive looks but it seems like his charm doesn't affect her. Odd, but he like it. She's something else; he wanted to be friends with her.

"I'll help you, you got a lot of work here. Declining my offer wasn't an option." Ara looked at him. Was he serious? Okay then…

"Who said I'll decline?" Jonathan smiled at her response. She's not just feisty but also sassy, his kind of girl.

"No one, haha." He replied amusedly. Ara just shook her head and smiled slightly. The second man she saw here in the palace had a witty personality.

Behind their knowledge, in a corner, there is someone who is watching them with anger in his eyes. He closed his palm tightly and gritted his teeth.

''I see. She can bewitch anyone around her. What a whore.' He thought as he left.

Ara's smile slowly faded as she looked around. She felt like someone was watching them. But there's nothing. No one is around except her and Jonathan.

"Ara? Is there something wrong?" Jonathan asked her and looked where's Ara looking at.

"No, nothing. Let's work now." She answered and focused on cleaning the dishes again.

"Why are you working alone here?" he tried his luck to ask that question again. Ara smirked in her mind; annoying someone is what she loves to do sometimes.

"I told you, it's none of your business." Jonathan laughed hard. He's already expecting that one.

'As what I thought,'

"Seriously, come on, it's not that hard to answer my question." He said still laughing. Ara glanced at him, "Actually. If I'll answer your question, we will start a long conversation. So, just shut up and work silently." She answered sassily. That made Jonathan laughed even harder, this girl amused him.

He knew at that moment that she was one of a kind. It's just a pity that she can't be his because she's not his mate. Her mate was surely lucky. His mate was a wonderful girl.

"Okay, okay, fine, haha. Please don't be so rude to me. I'm helping you, okay." Ara playfully smirks, "You can freely go if you don't want my attitude."

"You're so harsh. Okay, I'll shut up now." He playfully replied. Ara was about to talk back, but the door opened again.

"Ara, we're here now to help y---" Cattie stopped talking when she saw Jonathan beside Ara.

"Great, the two of you were here now. Send this ugly monkey out of here." Jonathan looked at Ara and acted as if he was hurt.

"Ugly monkey? I'm a smoking hot vampire." Ara gave him a look. Maddie and Cattie burst into a fit laughter after hearing what Ara been said. She called Jonathan an ugly monkey; no one ever did that to him.

 Just her.

"Ara was right, you're an ugly monkey, Nathan." Maddie agreed, too; amusement filled her voice as she said that.

"Even you Maddie? It really hurts. I'm not an ugly monkey, right, Cattie?" he asked hopefully, but Cattie grinned at him devilishly.

"No." Jonathan quickly smiled. "I told so, I'm no---" "No, Ara and Maddie were right, I'm agreeing with them." She continued and laughed hard.

Jonathan frowned, 'these evils.'
