Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

Ava's PoV

These past few days have been incredibly busy for me as I prepare for Ezra's upcoming birthday party. The celebration will take place this Saturday at Melody Lounge Bar, a venue where we have often performed our gigs. Ezra and I have gained quite a bit of popularity here, so we can expect a large turnout of people eager to join.

As I sit on a bench beside the school's open field, I have my earphones in, singing a song that I have written especially for Ezra. I want it to be perfect, hoping to impress him in some way, even though I know his thoughts are already consumed by Isabella. I gaze up at the sky, feeling the melody of my song when suddenly, a face appears from behind. It's Ezra, with his handsome features, his piercing, beautiful blue eyes, and long lashes. He's so damn hot...

"You're here," he says, and I quickly straighten my posture and offer a smile.

"Yeah, what do you need?" I ask, aware that he wouldn't approach me without a reason. He chuckles and takes a seat beside me.

"I asked Isabella to be my date for my birthday party, and she agreed," he happily shares. "Did you convince her?" he asks, and I nod. Indeed, I had pleaded with Isabella to agree if Ezra were to ask her. I explained that it would only be for one day, after all. Isabella is so kind-hearted that she didn't even realize I was essentially selling her to Ezra. What else could I do when I had made a promise to Ezra? He's a good person, and Isabella is such a gentle soul. They would make a wonderful couple. But deep down, I will continue to harbor feelings for him until he is taken... I will only stop once he finally ends up with Isabella.

"By the way, the song you were singing earlier is really beautiful. Are you in love?" he suddenly asks, catching me completely off guard.

"How much did you hear?" I inquire, hoping he didn't hear everything. It was supposed to be a surprise.

"I only heard the last part. Now, don't change the subject. Are you in love?" he persists. What should I say? I'm indeed in love for damn years!

"Y-yes," I stammer, and he frowns. Why? Is he feeling jealous? Hahaha, but that's impossible. He doesn't see me as anything more than a friend.

"With whom?" he asks, and I let out a nervous chuckle. There's no way I can tell him that I'm in love with him.

"It's a secret," I reply, and he looks really serious!

"So now you're keeping secrets from me? That's not fair, Ava," he protests, and I can't help but laugh. He looks so damn adorable when he's complaining. I laugh and playfully poke his nose.

"I'm not in love, hahaha. I wrote the song for my best friend who is in love," I confess, and finally, he smiles. It's moments like these that make me want to punch him sometimes.

"Good. If someone wants to date you, they'll have to pass my screening first. You've never had a boyfriend, so you deserve someone who will truly love you. I'll make sure to find the right person for you," he says, and I laugh, my heart aching.

Little does he know that I love him and want him. He will never find someone else who could make me as happy as he does.

A few days later, it's finally the D-Day of his birthday party. I'm still at home with my friends, getting ready.

"... Big Sis, is it really okay for me to go with him?" Isabella asks as I fix her hair.

"Of course, please do this favor for me... You know I want Ezra to be the happiest on this day," I reply, and she sighs.

".. okay..," she reluctantly agrees.

After a few minutes, Ezra finally arrives to pick up Isabella. He looks incredibly handsome in his blue tuxedo, with a few buttons undone, revealing his chest tattoos. His jawline, neckline, collarbone, and muscles are so incredibly sexy that I can't help but swallow hard.

I watch as he opens the car door and assists Isabella in. He hasn't even spared me a glance since he arrived. His eyes are solely focused on Isabella. She looks stunning in her pink dress, her blonde hair tied up in a bun, and her grey eyes shining. She's so pretty and elegant, unlike me, who can't even compare to his ideal type. They finally leave, and until the very end, he doesn't look at me, I...also made myself pretty. He's so cruel, hahaha.

"See? I told you to stop being a martyr," Chloe says. Wow, she looks incredibly beautiful tonight too! Her red dress and red lipstick make her look like she's about to walk the red carpet.

"She's right, Ava. Why do you have to stick with him when you have so many suitors swarming around you?" Aubrey adds, and I simply smile.

"But none of them approach me or ask how I'm doing. They just send gifts here and there, and I can't feel any genuine emotions," I confess, and I hop into my car.

When we arrived at the venue, as expected, there were a lot of people there, but the second floor was reserved for guests only that's why it's not crowded. As we entered the second floor, our close classmates and friends were already there.

"Ava, you're finally here!" Ezra exclaimed happily. My friends cursed under their breath, and I couldn't help but glare at them.

"Yeah, happy birthday. Ahh, here," I said, handing him a paper bag.

"Thank you," he replied. He had mentioned wanting new headphones, so I bought them as a gift. I saw him smile when he saw my gift and even blush. My heart suddenly felt a slight tingle...

"Do you like it? I remember you mentioning wanting one," I asked, and he nodded. At least he likes-

"Did you tell Isabella too? Hehehe, she gave me one too. You're the best, Ava," he said while smiling so much, and I forced myself to smile too, even though I wanted to cry now because I knew, he would use Isabella's gift, not mine.

"Ahh, yeah, hahahah. I'll go to the restroom first. Please guide Aubrey and Chloe to our table," I said, but Isabella suddenly appeared. As expected, his eyes were fixated on her again.

"I want to kill him," Aubrey muttered, and I smiled bitterly.

"Don't make a scene, okay? Excuse me for a bit," I said, and instead of going to the restroom, I went back to my car and cried there.

It's annoying. I thought I was already used to this, but it still hurts. It stings so much. While sitting there, I heard a familiar song playing on the second floor. He's already singing the song he had been practicing for weeks... He didn't even wait for me before singing. Hahaha, it's funny. Why am I acting like this when I knew it wasn't for me in the first place? Gosh, unrequited love hurts in different ways. This is why I want them to be together, so Ezra won't feel rejected what am I feeling now?

I lean my head on the steering wheel and let my tears fall as I listen to his song. Isabella is very lucky, having a man like you who'll pursue you like this is such a blessing.

While I'm sitting here, I see Isabella leaving the bar! What the heck?! I was about to get out of the car, but I saw her hop on a big bike! She's with a man in a black leather jacket, he's wearing a helmet, so I can't recognize him. But Isabella sits behind him and even holds onto him intimately...

I get out of the car and try to approach them, but they're gone! They're riding off like a rocket! So... what will happen at the birthday party now?!

To be continued...
