Synopsis

Chapter 1 - Prologue

"To mortals, we are the creatures of the night, but to ourselves, we are the guardians of eternity."

---------------------------------

Pain.

Hunger.

Anger.

And adrenaline.

All of these were my driving forces, fueling me with the energy I needed to keep running, to never stop. If I did, I would surely die.

And I didn't want to die—not because I was afraid of it. How could I fear something that is inevitable? Death is a fate that awaits us all.

Since that awful day, it didn't matter where I went; death seemed to lurk around every corner, a constant shadow haunting my every move.

Since that fateful day, I've tried to live peacefully, as my deceased family would have wanted. But in this godforsaken world, peace is a mere illusion.

No one is safe—neither the old, the children, nor the women. Everyone is the same; everyone is destined to be killed. This is the law of the world—to kill or be killed. The strong rule over the weak.

But this is not why I fear death. I fear it because I have something important to achieve before I can find peace. I need to exact my revenge, even if it means selling my soul to the devil.

They killed everyone I loved, and even after that, they refused to let us hold onto even a sliver of hope. Every single survivor was hunted until I was the last one left.

Revenge is not a choice for me; it is a necessity. I am certain that no soul of those deceased will find peace until they have been avenged.

Even if I cannot achieve this revenge today, tomorrow, or the day after, I know that someday it will come. It is never too late for a gentleman to seek revenge—even after ten years.

---------------------------------------------------------

'I'm tired,' I admit to myself, the words a whispered confession to the empty expanse around me. 'Tired of everything. Tired of this wretched life. Tired of this cruel world.'

As I slow my pace, the urge to surrender grows stronger. But I can't surrender because my blood screams for the blood of my enemies, and I feel too much bloodlust to give in.

Amidst my despair, as I sense my attackers drawing nearer, I hear a faint voice—a mere whisper in the chaos of my thoughts. It is so delicate that I almost dismiss it, but something inside me compels me to listen.

"Do you wish to live?" the voice asks.

'Was it a man or a woman?… or even a human?' I wonder, my thoughts tinged with uncertainty.

"Do you desire strength? Come to me, then. I will give you power!"

I pause, torn between disbelief and curiosity. Am I going crazy, or is there really someone communicating with me through my mind? I worry for my mental state, questioning whether my loneliness and stress have driven me to imagine things.

'Am I so desperate and overwhelmed that I'm starting to hear impossible things?'

The mere thought sends a shiver down my spine. Yet amidst the uncertainty, a glimmer of hope flickers to life. But what if the voice speaks the truth? Before I can ponder further, the approaching presence of my pursuers jolts me back to reality.

Hey!

Your author is finally back! I know I took forever, but I really needed that time because university life is way harder than I thought, and don't even get me started on the exams. I kinda regret picking Business Informatics. =(

But anyway, from now on, I'm going to edit all my chapters before putting out a new one. After rereading the old chapters, I realized there were a lot of things I didn't like, and I have new ideas, so yeah.

See ya!
