POV - Judas
"Honey, come down stairs we have company." My mothers pleasant voice rings through the air and up into my bedroom.
Looking up from my book and towards the door trying to remember if my mother mentioned anything about having company today, but no memory pops into my mind.
As I place my book on the nightstand and put on my slippers I walk towards my door and open it up to the hallway. Walking towards the stairs I can't help but have a smile come to my face as I look at the paintings on the wall once again reminded of my family's wealth.
"Hurry."
Hearing my moms voice again I start to slow jog down the stairs and into the living room. Panting I from exhaustion I can't help but curse at my frail body. The only real negative of this life.
"Fuck."
"JUDAS PRINCE." Looking up I sigh as I see an annoyed expression on my mothers face, knowing I'm about to get lectured by her in front of our guest.
"Well he has quite the potty mouth doesn't he." Looking up I see the face of a man who bears slight resemblance to my mother wearing a priest outfit.
" Sorry Father, I would have never said that if I knew you were here, but I was born with a weak body and almost any form of effort leaves me physically and mentally weak." Taking the chance to get out of a lecture from my mother I speak up before she can and get a pointed glare from her.
Luckily the priest speaks up before she can say anything.
"Well today's both yours and my sister's lucky day," he said with a chuckle. Sister? I wasn't aware I had an uncle, but it explains the resemblance.
Seeing the question on my face my mother speaks up.
"He's my half brother." She says, looking at me, and then to explain further. "He lives in the Vatican and almost never leaves, it was quite a surprise he could drop by."
Turning to my half uncle? I see her expression change to one of excitement. "You got my letters."
"Yes." My uncle said with a smile. "It's impossible not to see at least one of the thousand you sent."
"Then you're here too…"
"Yes." My uncle said ending their small nonsensical exchange that I have no context of to understand. "I have a wizard friend around here that can help see what's wrong with him."
'Wizard.' What is that supposed to mean? A faith healer maybe, though my mother has always been against seeing them when science could do nothing to help me.
"And he can help?" My mother said with a skeptical look.
Alright now I'm pretty sure they're talking about faith healers. Maybe wizard is just a derogatory term people from the church use towards them.
"Yes, He's not like the low-class pretenders trying to make a dime." He said. "He's a partner of the church and recently stepped into Ultimate-Class with my help"
I could see the look in my mothers eyes turn from skeptical, excited, and then to awe. At this point I'm just confused. As far as I'm aware there is no explanation I can come up with that would make any of those terms make sense.
Perhaps they are talking about the level of health degrees. An associate is Low-Class, and Ultimate is a doctorate.
That makes no sense though. My parents spent thousands on doctors already. I have definitely spoken to some of the highest ranked professions in the field.
Turning towards my mother I see love in her eyes as she looks at me. The love only a mother could hold for her child.
"What's happening?" I ask in hope to relieve myself of confusion.
My mother just keeps looking at me with some sadness leaking into her gaze so I turn to my uncle.
"There's no easy way to put this, but magic is real." My uncle says with a smile on his face. I look straight at him with an expression of skepticism.
Magic? Existing? Perhaps. I can chalk up my being reborn to at the very least proof of the existence of the soul, but magic that's a leap I can't take without some solid proof.
"Why have I never seen anything even bordering the realm of magic if you say it exists." I question him. "Show me proof, or better yet use some magic right now."
"Judas" My mother calls for me hoping I will stop being so questioning, but I need answers. Perhaps this could shine some light on me being reborn.
"Well." My uncle begins and then pauses. "I can't do magic because I have no aptitude for it, but I can guarantee you that once you step into the house of my friend and meet him you will understand and have your proof."
I look at him trying to find even the smallest of falsehood in his eyes, but I can't. Feeling somewhat bitter for some reason I look at my mother.
She's known about magic this whole time if this is all true and never told me.
"Oh baby." My mother comes towards me and wraps me in a hug. "I'm sorry I never told you, but the average magic user can't do anything to help you and I didn't want to get your hopes up if your uncle couldn't find a powerful one who could."
I usually struggle to get out of her hugs around other people, but I'm not as embarrassed right now as I am hopeful to be cured of this weak body.
"It's ok mom." I hug her back and then let go as she does as she walks back to her seat.
I look towards my uncle.
"Ok. When can we see this wizard." My mother looks towards my uncle as I ask this.
"Yes, when can we see them?"
My uncle takes a second, perhaps not being used to emotionally charged situations like this.
"I can take Judas over right now, but you will have to stay here Mary." My uncle says.
I can see my mother about to speak up in anger, but my uncle speaks up before she does.
"Mary, I told this Wizard that I would only bring my nephew. I can't just bring another person along or he might get the wrong idea." My uncle says as his explanation. "You know how wizards are. Eccentric, and trust me it gets worse as they get more powerful. This particular wizard will probably believe that I was leading a hit against him if he saw a third person."
'Ya that's not good.' I look at my mother and see that she is surprisingly calm.
"Ok." My mother says sweetly to my confusion. She is usually a worry wart about these situations. "But, If something goes wrong I will ask my father to get an explanation from you."
At this my uncle changes his expression from the almost permanent smile on his face to a look of dread.
"No need to bring dad into this." he says somewhat frightened.
'Grandpa. If I recall correctly he is a cardinal.'
"Don't worry sister, nothing will go wrong. That wizard is too paranoid to have an exorcist's death on his record." My uncle says as reinsurance.
He then turns to me. "Go get dressed. I promised the Heretic I would be there in 20 minutes."
As I walk back to my room I can hear my mothers screech.
"Heretic? WHY ARE YOU FRATERNIZING WITH SOMEONE LIKE THAT."
I put my head down and just hope uncle can calm her down by the time I get ready.
