POV - Judas
As Salas leads me to his library I can't help but ask him what a magic matrix is as I didn't remember them being a thing in DxD. All I remember about wizards and mages is that they must be a genius in math and science to be any good at it.
"A Magic Matrix is a wizard's calculations and research about a certain element or magic that has been rewritten by them in their mind complex in the form of runes." He says as we make our way into the library.
"Most of the time a wizard must spend years on simply researching and studying someone else's Magic Matrix. The true geniuses create their own such as the current Beelzebub, and yours truly." He continued.
"Why does Beelzebub use a Mind Matrix if he's a devil." I ask, curious why he wouldn't just use devil magic.
"Because God's System doesn't have a path for devils to reach past Satan-Class, which is just a fancy name for devils at the peak of Ultimate-Class" He says. "The three current super devils who exist right now had to leave the devil path to become stronger."
"So they follow a different path when they reach Satan-Class." I ask as we sit down at the only table in the study.
"Yes." He says straight up. "Lucifer walks a path similar to that of Shiva in that they both seek the peak of destruction. Lucifer through pure destruction, and Shiva through controlled destruction."
"Beelzebub, though already powerful himself, decided to walk the path of 'True Magic' a term coined by Merlin himself and the path almost all human wizards and mages walk including myself."
"Lucifer the Son of the first devil walks the path of a God. He hopes to do what his father couldn't and usurp the Christian God. Sadly he is nowhere close to that level and his path seems to be a dud, because he is barely on the other two's level." Salas stops here before conjuring a book in his hand.
'Salas's Light Matrix.' I read as he slowly opens the book to look intently at the runes within.
"Lucky for you as a fallen who is already inherently attuned with light magic you don't need to study, just need me to copy the outer runes into your mind complex to give all your future magic the presence of my matric." He says as he lifts his hand to my forehead as a white sigil glows on it.
"This might hurt."
It does. Luckily it was not even close to the pain I felt when he broke the seal on my body. Rather it more felt like someone was trying to carve up my forehead with a butter knife.
It slowly passes and Salas retracts his hand. Feeling my light once more I can tell that it is still the same light that is capable of tearing sinners and evil asunder, but once it is out of my body and in my palm it feels like a marvel of the human mind and its hope of freedom.
It almost makes me want to cry. Taking a look at Salas I see that he is still sitting in front of me looking excited as if he wants to hear my reaction to his magic.
"It feels different." I say looking at him hoping for an explanation.
His look of excitement morphs into one of confusion. "How so."
"Well" I say pausing before continuing, "My light feels like it was created to destroy and suppress evil, but yours feels like it is made to contain the hope contained in the minds of all humans"
I pause once again wondering if I should mention the dark light I felt during my transformation that felt like it was hiding from all that is good. After a second I decide to just keep that to myself because I don't remember any devil with light based abilities in DxD.
Salas doesn't seem to care about my hesitation. "I wonder why that is." he ponders. "Well I know what your first task as my student will be then, but that can wait. For now let me explain somethings to you about being my student before your uncle gets here."
"Your uncle will definitely tell your grandfather who will in turn inform the church of myself taking you as a student. This might not seem important, but I am an Ultimate-Class wizard and the only wizard who has ever successfully studied the element of light."
"The church will definitely want to meet you one day to learn the secrets of my magic matrix, and they will be the only faction in the world who will ask you nicely."
"You will have to spend a lot of your time here for the foreseeable future so that I can teach you my matrix in detail so that you can answer their questions about it in the future."
"I can buy around two years of time for you to learn my magic matrix to at least High-Class before you have to join a faction. I won't force you to join the church after that, but I doubt any other faction will be as 'kind' as they are"
He pauses as I take in everything he just said. Of course the church would want to know about Salas's light magic matrix. If they could teach every priest the matrix it would be crippling to devils, demons, and beasts.
As for joining a different faction, it never even crossed my mind. I have already decided to worship God in this life. Even if he is dead, which I don't even know for sure yet I will still uphold his beliefs.
Plus from what I remember the church has some corrupt elements within that I can nip in the bud before they get out of hand. Giving this magic matrix to them will buy me more than enough influence with the truly faithful to walk all over the blasphemers within.
There is only one thing I can't figure out.
"Salas." I start "Do you want me to give your magic matrix to the church. It is your life's work after all and you don't seem like the type of person to do something for no benefit."
Salas remains silent for a second before replying.
"I have a lot of enemies and very few friends. I have made some leeway with the devils, but they don't accept me because of my magic.
On the other hand the church won't help me because of my methods in developing my matrix, but if it is you who brings it to them then they have no reason to refuse.
This will tie me and you with the church permanently as they will need my research in continuing to develop my magic matrix, while they will need you to teach it to them as they can't directly come to me"
Nodding in understanding I look at Salas and hold out my hand.
"Teacher" I say.
He freezes for a second before he laughs and shakes my hand.
"Student."
