After finishing Fika meal Inger began telling about hers. It was about her childhood experiences in Norway. Wilhelm listened. His friends listened too. Evidently, Inger had witnessed some unusual happenings during her childhood.
They were about a neighbor. This neighbor in childhood played in forsaken hut. The hut was in forest. What was unique? It was home to wolf family. Wolf mother hid cubs in hut to shield them.
Unfortunately at one time curiosity overcame boy. Wild animal's baby cubs fascinated him. He went to play with them. This decision was disastrous. Wolf mother returned. She found boy playing with its young.
An attack followed. It was deadly. It was by wolf.
When they discovered the boy later, he was beyond help. He had become skeleton.
A moment of complete silence ensued. Inger's voice finally broke the deadlock, though resolute.
"I forbid you children from making such trips to abandoned huts, Wilhelm. It is dangerous. Alone and with the wild animals, it may be fatal." Her warning was of consequence.
Wilhelm, his friends, and even Inger realized something. Outdoors must be treated with care. Especially if it involves brushes with danger. The story made a strong point about this aspect for both Wilhelm and his friends.
It was then that grandma narrated her story. In it, she spoke about a terrible incident. Wilhelm's father Torbjörn and friends strayed in woods once. It was when they were young. The authorities had to be informed. They left to search for the trio. It took hours before the rescue operation reached them, all safe.
It was a very scary experience for everyone. "It was hard when Torbjörn got lost with friends," Grandma retold. You can say that again. It was one of those stories that advised care in the woods from now on.
The experience was to prove, at a later time, most memorable for Grandmother. "It's always important to be prepared in the woods. Never wander too far from the safety of home." Wilhelm and his friends nodded in understanding. They concurred with sage Grandma. The woods can be dangerous. Extreme care should be exercised.
Memories began to emerge. This time they were Grandma's own. "I remember how worried we got when Torbjörn and his buddies got lost" Grandma told. Her voice was both a matter of intense introspection and mild tenderness. Then Grandma grew philosophical. "One should always be prepared for any eventuality in forest. One should not wander away from one's home to a dangerous extent."
Wilhelm and the others indicated that they understood each other. They nodded for clear understanding. Now things were clear. Wilderness can be dangerous. They thanked Inger and Grandma, "Thanks for sharing", said Wilhelm. "Our learning from you both shall stay with us. We promise to undertake outdoor adventures responsibly always".
