Chapter 10 - One month and competition

The dawn skies were dim, and the morning fog hung in the air.

It was 4 a.m, people were still relaxed on their beds, while others....

Chase swiftly hovered through the air, his speed quite fast. Behind him the students ran like a well oil machine, their steps synchronized, and surprisingly keeping up.

Led by four-eyes, the group was in perfect synchrony. The weaker students were placed in front, cruel yes but it kept them motivated and pushing forward.

Half a month had passed, five days ago, after running the whole day Chase punished four-eyes by making him run around the school, to which four-eyes responded by saying, "Your methods of punishment serve no apperantly purpose. Running the whole day isn't difficult for me, and that will only serve to train me and not punish me."

To which Chase graciously responded by gifting the entire class his punishment. Early in the morning everyone needed to run along. One kid had overslept, to which Chase expelled immediately.

*Ding ding*

An alarm rang from Chase's wrist watch, causing everyone to stop.

"Okay it's 5 o'clock. Everyone go get some rest and freshen up, class starts in two hours, I doubt anyone is stupid enough to be late. I'm getting laid." Chase left these words before disappearing into the distance.

Everyone rested for a bit before going their own sepperate ways.

There were many who were dissatisfied with four-eyes but no one wanted dental work.

"Ayo Asher, bring some of that meat, pause, something tells me, we're gonna need extra energy today." Atlas stated when they arrived back.

"I'll go prepare." Among all of them, Atlas was the best cook, and it wasn't even close, so he became the designated chef.

After giving him the meat, Asher took a bath and washed his clothes, before donning his school uniform.

Coming back to the kitchen, four-eyes, Abel and Atlas were already waiting for him.

"No our class already started with the enhancement training." Abel said.

"Precisely, which means my earlier assessment was correct, Mr. Chase has us running and jogging for no reason, I'll stop by the administration offices today. " Four-eyes exclaimed.

There were two first year classes, as to not crowd one class, the students were randomly picked, and no hierarchy was established.

"Yeah but don't do that, I'll have a word with him first otherwise you'll add fuel to the fire." Atlas nodded.

Because of running the whole day, their class had been nicknamed, ducklings following their mother, which didn't sit well with most of them.

After they had their breakfast, they rested, their bodies consistently sore.

Time came and they went to class.

It was already seven o'clock and everyone was seated, except the teacher wasn't there.

No one was surprised but everyone remained quiet.

Time slowly passed and the door finally opened, Chase came in with a bright smile, disheveled clothes and a red mark on his neck. A weird odor radiating from him.

"Right everyone shut up, today I'm in a good mood, I got laid again, so I'll start teaching you theoriam." Chase hurriedly turned on his board.

"Appearantly I was supposed to start teaching you this but non of you reminded me, so we're a little behind, so start taking notes." With that chase started.

Say what you want about the man, but when it came to teaching, he was second to none. The content was summarized, and because the students were focused, he didn't waste time on a topic.

After explaining, he asked questions, and made sure everyone understood before moving one.

He was like a different person, his attitude changed, even when he was talking to four-eyes. Behaving as a teacher would to a student.

Just like that 3 hours passed and they had covered 80% of the nearly 5000 pages of work.

"That's it for today, tomorrow, we'll finish the remaining topics so I hope you revise your notes, cause I won't be going back. Now does anyone have any questions." Chase breath out, while finally sitting down.

Seeing no one ask, he added, "Today I'm in a good mood, there's still an hour left before lunch, add this hour to your break and enjoy."

Everyone was confused, who was this and what happened to their short tempered petty teacher, did 'getting laid', change him? but no one complained. They quickly left, fearing he might change his mind.

Asher and four-eyes waited outside for a few minutes before Atlas came out.

"Yeah we talked, apparently he planned for us to do it later." Atlas informed them, tuning to four-eyes he added, "See, no worries."

"No, our time was already wasted on pointless things." Four-eyes fixed his glasses.

"Anyway, let's kill some time before it starts later..."

Just like that, they walked around before finding a shady spot to rest, after a while, students started pouring out. Atlas suggested they talk to some girls but Asher wasn't interested and four-eyes preferred to continue revising his notes, so he left on his own.

Time quickly elapsed and they returned to class, Asher noticed a female teacher on his way in.

"There's no need to seat down, follow me." Chase stated before leading everyone out.

They all followed him across the academy and came into a spacious white room.

The room was empty, with only multiple circular raised platform that were about half a meter tall.

"Okay take a sit and concentrate, nobody's allowed to make any noise while I'm way." Chase barely stayed a second before rushing out.

Without any instructions, the students all sat down and concentrated.

'What's the point here? What are we suppose to concentrate on?' Asher thought while sitting on the platform.

'Wait, why's the voice inside my head louder then normal? Is it the platform, also why is it getting harder to form my thoughts? Unless this is the test!' Asher found it hard to concentrate, his thoughts were constantly distracted by nothing, making it hard for him to formulate any thoughts.

He opened his eyes and observed, some of the students were just sitting there absent-minded seemingly in thoughts, a few others had frowns and weird expressions on their faces.

'I guess the test is to try and focus on concentrating huh! The best way to go about this, is to focus my thoughts on one topic. If only I learnt a spell, I could focus on that.'

After a while, he finally adjusted his thoughts and chose to revise the work they did today. It was hard at first, his focus seemingly distracted by nothing or other thoughts, but as time passed, he was able to stear his focus in his direction.

Time passed more and more students realized what the test was and deafening silence engulfed the room.

"Ayo, it's already getting dark." Atlas's voice suddenly inturrupted everyone's focus, prompting everyone to look out the window, it was slowly turning dusk.

Unkowingly, more then four hours passed, it was already 7 pm. The school hours had already passed, it was clear Chase had forgotten about them.

Everyone came to and went their sepperate ways.

The platform was dangerous, it block off all sensations and even the perception of time.

...

The following day they woke up early and had a two hour "jog", then a brief rest followed by a surprise test, that 'supposedly' counted towards their final grade.

Following that, everyone returned to the weird room where they sat for hours, and finally went home.

This day became a routine and quickly the first month was almost over, the long awaited baptism was only two days away.

"I've got good news and great news, four-eyes which one would you want to hear first." Today, Chase was in a good mood, even his uniform was neat.

"The order at which news comes is of no importance and does nothing to change it's inevitability." Four-eyes adjusted his glasses while saying, all while maintaining his deadpen expression.

"I doubt your ever getting laid." Chase rubbed his temples in dissapontment.

"Anyways, four-eyes, remember how you said that the training I'm giving you isn't difficult?"

"Absurd, I uttured no such word." Four-eyes replied with a frown.

"Well you did say it, and the good news is that I've found a solution. You see, the academy from downtown, Pumz Academy, is dissatisfied that our school always gets the first baptism every year."

"They believe that this year, they have better first year's then we do. And after hearing four-eye's complaint, I've decided to give you guys the opportunity to prove yourselfs in a compatition. If you guys win, you'll get to go as planned but if you lose, you'll have to wait a month." Chase enthusiastically explained.

!!!

This undoubtedly cause the students to be dissatisfied, of cause no one wanted to wait another month.

" Teacher, you can't do that, we didn't do anything. "

" We find your exercises very difficult. "

" If it's four-eyes you want to punish, then let him suffer alone."

One by one the students raised their hands to complain, none of them obviously wanted to gamble with their opportunity.

" Everyone simmer down, simmer down, all of you are classmates, whatever you do or say has consequences, and will directly or indirectly effect everyone else." Chase preached.

His demeanor became stern, "How can you all share your good moments without expecting to share your bad ones."

We don't want to share though. Noting his attitude change, the students didn't continue arguing.

"Mr. Chase, your actions could potentially ruin the academy's image! Has the dean approved of this? " Four-eyes didn't notice the glares behind him and inquired.

"Oh don't worry, the other class isn't involved in this, if had the authority I would have included them as well, then give you the credit. As for the Dean, don't worry about her, she won't care even if you told her."
