Chapter 20 - The End and a Beginning

"[Congratulations on successfully completing an extremely high-level exorcism! You have earned rewards: +10 strength points, +5 spirit points, +10,000 faith points!]"

When Anton completes a mission, it is more than guaranteed that the Evil Spirit has completely disappeared, and with the removal of this dark entity, the house will return to normal. After all, the existence of the main evil spirit is the focus of all the evil happenings in this house, so all other evil spirits will disappear as if by magic.

Furthermore, common people will notice evident changes in the environment; temperatures return to normal, with the only exception being the basement where the medium was located. That place, which used to be the medium, will maintain its constant temperature to some extent, but just to be sure, Anton will make sure to have Rafael bless this place.

At this moment, after Carolyn, who knew about nursing, healed Anton, he was ready to leave this place. He didn't want to stay here because there were many other cases that needed him. After storing unnecessary things, he completely changed his aura to a friendly light.

But before leaving, there was something only he could do, so he went down to the basement again.

"Now you can breathe normally. I thought the smell would be more intense, but it wasn't very strong in this place." Thinking about the smell in the basement, Anton knew that this place was better than he thought.

After a moment of silence, Anton felt that several pairs of eyes were fixed on him, so he knew exactly who they were. The lingering souls, who had died, had to leave on their own.

Although he couldn't see much, Anton knew exactly who was in front of him, and these spirits were four in total. Each one of them was a victim, so he believed that it was not appropriate to attack.

"Show yourselves!" Anton looked up and could see four auras, not so intense with resentment. Soon, by filling his eyes with the power of light, he could see those four people.

"Priest..."

Along with a female voice, the four figures presented themselves in front of Anton. Without the coercion of evil spirits, these undead spirits had returned to their normal behavior. Although their eyes and lips were all darkened like ink, Anton could see more auras of light than anything else in the hearts of these spirits. He looked at a woman holding the hand of a girl, then at the man accompanying the boy; they were not expressive.

Anton sighed, looked at those spirits, and murmured, "I'm so sorry..."

These four spirits never expected Anton to apologize to them. All their eyes saw Priest Anton, and they could see something that even Lorraine couldn't. They all observed behind Anton a pair of wings as black as ink, each one so visible that they seemed real, so they saw Anton as if he were a divine being.

None of the spirits moved, but somehow they were stimulated. The woman who was more aware opened her mouth and said in a ghostly way, "Priest, there's no need to apologize."

Anton felt like he was talking to himself, a being that had died a long time ago and was now paying for his sins. At least he was sure that the spirits in front of him had a place in heaven secured; he envied them in a way and regretted the fact that they had to suffer so much.

Taking the Golden Grimoire, Anton stood up and murmured, "Let me help you ascend."

What was happening was not common, but it was known that prayers required deep faith and unbreakable will. Very few had the ability to do it correctly, but Anton, who was a man who had died and was now fulfilling his mission to cleanse his sins, had the ability to do this and much more.

Anton closed his eyes, immersed himself in the feeling of loneliness, and murmured, "May the noble souls, victims of evil, achieve a purifying ascension, freeing themselves from the chains of suffering. May they find comfort in transcendence, rising to higher planes where goodness and peace prevail, leaving behind the shadows that darkened their earthly existence."

Anton's recitation was serene; all the spirits in front of him could see how some feathers of Anton's wings turned white, so now they knew what was happening.

"May the spirits, freed from the weight of resentment, find serenity and peace in their new state. May the light of forgiveness illuminate their souls, allowing them to move lightly towards eternal tranquility."

When the recitation was over, the originally dark basement inexplicably became brighter, especially the surroundings of the spirits.

Anton, who opened his eyes, was surprised. It was the first time he had done this, and he felt an incredible peace covering his body as he looked at those lights in the form of small spheres.

The four spirits gradually lost their appearance, and in the end, the dark eyes regained their brightness, the clothing of all became colorful, and they returned to what they used to be.

Looking at these four people, Anton still maintained his recitation posture, but while saying the last prayers, these spirits looked at him with a smile.

"Thank you, Priest..."

"Thank you..."

"May they rest in peace." Anton closed the Grimoire and looked at the empty basement. He felt a bit depressed for some reason. Speaking of that, he felt a bit better than before.

"Why have you chosen me, Lord?" Anton looked at his hands as he asked this question.

After a few minutes of silence, Anton went upstairs, still not understanding why he had been chosen.

"Priest Anton, Rafael, are you sure you don't want to stay? Carolyn has already started cleaning the house."

There was a group of people standing at the door because Anton and Rafael were leaving that night.

"Don't worry, Mrs. Perron, our destination is not too far." Anton smiled while Rafael, a man of few words, took the driver's seat.

After finishing his response, Anton thought of something and looked at Lorraine; after all, he didn't know where her evil aura came from. It even seemed to him like an ally to eliminate all that aura. At the same time, he also felt that behind this evil aura, there must be an extremely powerful demon. Still, Anton would be willing to challenge it when it made its presence known.

"Lorraine, remember that you and your husband should use the special crosses I gave you at all times. You have an extra one that you must keep for a close relative. Don't forget to call me directly for any kind of problem."

After hearing Anton's words, Lorraine nodded and did not take off the cross hanging from her neck.

"We will do that, priest."

Anton smiled, looked around, and bid farewell to everyone. "See you later. You may not want to see me again, but I'm sure we'll meet again sometime."

After saying that, Anton got into the co-driver's seat, and the truck accelerated, leaving behind all those who were bidding him farewell.
