Chapter 19 - Division

When Moses finished speaking, everyone looked at Seth, some siding with Elder Snyder and thinking like him, while others were unsure.

Virtually no one there felt the same way as Seth, and even those who respected him the most saw that they needed to revise the way they viewed their old elders.

It was obvious that they had been deceived, and questioning the methods of their ancestors didn't seem so disrespectful anymore.

But even with different thoughts, some didn't want to separate from Seth, while others weren't sure what their leader could do with a separation in the group.

The crime of treason existed in their tribe and carried a very specific punishment.

Fearful of Seth's position, some interested in joining Moses waited for the strongest of them to take a position.

Seth glared at Moses, feeling that this man was betraying the Misty Woods Tribe. But he knew that the old elders of the tribe had kept something from them.

He didn't see the situation as Moses did, but he didn't deny the reality. He believed that his tribe had given up great things, which might have caused them to lose a lot over the generations.

But he didn't see it as an evil lie, but something deliberately hidden from them for some serious reason.

'The old elders wouldn't do this to hurt us. There must be a reason for keeping this information from us.' Seth thought as he looked at Moses.

'Still, I don't think it would be appropriate to reduce the number of our fellow tribesmen because of thoughts like Moses'. It would be a shame for the tribe if I had to end the line of those who think like him.' Seth thought as he looked around and felt the fear of more than half of his group.

He closed his eyes and suppressed his aura. "Alright, Moses, do what you want. Do you want to be free to ignore my opinion? So be it. I'll forgive you for your bold words earlier but don't embarrass the tribe in the future.

The next time I hear about your lack of respect for our ancestors, be prepared. I will have no mercy on your soul."

Gulp!

The people there swallowed their saliva, for Seth was not the kind who spoke without thinking and always kept his promises.

Seth looked at the people around him and said. "You are free to continue by my side or by Moses' side. Do not worry about me. I will not force anyone to do what they do not want to do.

I will go on my journey of vengeance with or without help. I only expect you to do your best to avenge our dead comrades and not to dishonor the tribe that gave you everything you have."

Moses laughed in relief at hearing this as the people there looked at each other, gradually standing up and taking positions in his favor.

"I'm sorry, Seth. I think we'll get our revenge faster if we follow Elder Snyder's method." Anne Farr said.

Jothan Foster, one of the group's elders, stood up and saw more than eight people gathered with Moses, most of them youths. He said as he stood between Seth and Moses. "I will not follow any of you. I've given practically my whole life to the tribe, and now, faced with the truth, I don't know what to do.

Since we're splitting up, I will find a place to meditate and understand this world better. Depending on my journey and discoveries, I will try to help you or avenge the tribe. But I can't promise anything."

Seth didn't like what he heard, for Jothan was a good man whom he had always respected. He had not expected Elder Foster to make such a decision now.

Moses didn't like it either, knowing how powerful each group member was and how much better it would be for them to be under his command.

Two other people in the group showed similar opinions to Jothan's; one was interested in following the elder, while the other wanted to travel alone and seek the same thing as Jothan.

In the blink of an eye, of the 18 people in the group besides Moses and Seth, only 5 were in doubt between the three options before them.

Dax, who had Seth as his biggest rival, finally decided. "I disagree with your current methods and thinking, Seth, but I will stand by you. As much as you can do on your own, you need someone to disagree with you."

Despite being rivals, the two were friends and respected each other greatly.

Atlas laughed at Dax's comment, feeling that this guy wanted to stay by Seth's side just to annoy the strongest of the tribe. "I'll stay with you two. Someone has to reconcile your differences."

Seth smiled as he realized he wasn't alone in the journey ahead.

Emery looked at Dax and sighed. 'I think the elder Snyder will be more successful, but damn, why did you choose Seth, Dax?' She thought as she walked to the side of the man she loved.

"I'll go with you." She said to Seth, surprising the elder Snyder, who thought she would side with his group.

Of the two remaining individuals, one went with Moses' group, while the other, a young man who greatly respected Seth, said. "Boss, I disagree with you, but I doubt you will fail. So I'll go with you!"

Seth ran a hand over the head of the young blond, Levi Traverse.

"So that's it..." Moses commented with a smile as he looked at the group of four next to Seth. "I hope no one here regrets their decisions today. I'm especially willing to welcome anyone into my group, but this world seems really big. It may be impossible to see each other again in the future."

"That is the case..." Jothan commented with a long sigh. "Then I wish you all the best of luck. I hope that our destinies will bring us together again."

"Amen," Seth said with nothing more to add.

He felt terrible that so many of his group chose to corrupt themselves at Moses' side. But forcing the group to obey him wasn't up to him. He had never been the kind of person to do that, and he honestly didn't think it was the best way to go.

Seth believed that there was nothing better than the pain of mistakes to teach. If these people were as wrong as he thought they were, they would eventually learn their lesson without him having to do anything.

So the three groups soon said goodbye as they finished eating in the area half destroyed by Seth's aura, without much conversation between the parties and a somewhat awkward atmosphere between them.

As Seth left with Dax, Atlas, Emery, and Levi, he put aside what he had learned that day and spoke to them about this separation.

"I understand that some of you may have thoughts similar to Moses'. But don't worry, you don't have to listen to me without being able to question my opinions." He said this especially to Emery and Levi.

"I only ask you not to use artificial means. I believe there is a greater reason behind our ancestors' decision.

We must at least find people as strong as us and study them before we accept thoughts like Moses'. We don't know how the resources of this civilization can affect our quest for the Apogee.

The four of them understood Seth's thoughts, all of them aware of how important the Apogee was to them and how careful they had to be lest a rash decision hinder their great goal.

They agreed not to take risks like Moses had and to be more patient while they understood this civilization.

That was how the night would end for them, the last one in which the 20 survivors of the Misty Woods Tribe would all be in the same city.
