Klaus's POV
The bear got up quicker than I expected as it zipped into me, the battle becoming a dance between strength and speed, as the bear's relentless assaults clashed with my evasive maneuvers and strategic strikes.
My supernatural abilities granted an advantage, allowing me to dodge the bear's attacks and deliver swift, calculated blows to its sides.
The creature didn't look like it would fall over anytime soon but that didn't make me stop my attacks as I let off my frustration on it.
As I moved away from it, I caught my breath to know the creature was adapting to my moves. I would have to end it if I had any chance at winning this battle.
As the battle raged on, my relentless assault took a toll on the bear. My slash through the bear's fur, drew blood which was a first and this gave me hope that I was going somewhere with my attacks, but the bear, fueled by a strong spirit, refused to yield.
I heard someone yelling in the distance as I looked to see Sam wrestling a bull to the ground. I looked into the distance to find two bulls rushing into him, but he was so busy he could not see the creatures. I knew it would be too late before I would save him so I prepared to yell at him to be careful.
Before I could yell at him to get away from the bull, a powerful swipe of the bear's claws managed to land a blow, sending me sprawling.
"Fuck," I sputtered blood, standing to my feet as I could feel my body weakening from this attack I had received. Why did everything in the wood have to be so difficult?
I was weakened but far from defeated. With everything in me, I unleashed my full supernatural prowess.
I called upon my dark powers, summoning shadows and mist to confuse and disorient the bear.
This had the animal confused as it was momentarily blinded, roaring in frustration and lashing out blindly at me. It could not see me but I could see it.
Its immense strength caused the ground to tremble.
With a deep breath, I stepped into the shadows I had created and zipped into the creature, targeting its beating heart which I could hear.
With a swift move, I ripped out its heart, held it before the beast and took the shadows back into my body for the sunlight to appear again,
The beast looked at me like I had done the impossible before it staggered back, falling to the ground and dying.
I looked at Sam, getting tossed around by three bulls but he still struggled to hold his own against them.
I tried to walk towards him as I felt a sharp pain in my leg. Looking at it, a broken claw stuck out of it which had me growling in a low way but I ripped it out and walked to the bear's body to sit on.
This was a terrific day to actually let loose and show what I was capable of.
It had been long since I used my shadow powers as the king of the vampires.
In all my years fighting soldiers, I had not seen any reason to do that.
It seemed unnecessary knowing I could use my strength and speed to overwhelm anyone I wanted to overwhelm.
With my powers alone, I deserved being the lord of the vampire lords. Why would those old farts in that seat give it up to me?
Those outdated rules of having a mate was the fucking reason I was taking these insults from Mara in the first place.
Maybe if I had the throne, I would not need her. I would have killed her a long time ago.
But thinking of her brought a weird smile to my face. What was this feeling I was having inside? Was I developing a liking for her?
She was very good with her life story and felt for her anytime I heard her say things about her history.
I doubted if it was good enough to make me think of her in a different light. She was still a very terrible person to me.
I looked at Sam, struggling with the bull and immediately wondered if he would make it out alive. Apart from Gail, Sam was my other only friend whom I could trust with my life. I would have included Layla if she had eventually become my wife but there was no need to do that now she was dead.
Standing to my feet, I found I had healed. A smile spread across my face. This was one of the perks of being a vampire. I had to live without injuries as nothing could hurt me and stay forever. Except if it was silver or maybe a werewolf venom or maybe a magical artifact.
But I would sense these things coming from a mile away.
I slowly walked to one of the bulls, using my shadows as a ranged attack, I turned it into a sharp blade and sliced the bull in two.
The other bulls saw what had happened and took off, leaving a ragged Sam on the ground panting and bleeding.
His eyes were closed which had me heaving a heavy sigh.
"You can stand up now. They're gone."
He opened an eye before standing to his feet as his clothes fell away in rags.
Out of pity, I removed my trousers and gave them to him. I had shorts within so I didn't need to bother with clothing.
"Thank you," he said with ragged breathing, wearing the clothes before looking at the bulls staring at us from a distance. His eyes fell upon the divided bull on the ground which had me shivering in fear. "How did you…"
"Shadows," I smirked. "You forget that sometimes I have haxes that can be used for long ranged attacks. I am a vampire lord after all."
