Chereads / Lord Klaus’ Fated Vampire Mate / Chapter 35 - Protecting Mara

Chapter 35 - Protecting Mara

Klaus's POV

The next day, we were walking through the forest as we found the bulls running around while doing everything they could to avoid us.

"I can see purple veins running along their side," she said with a fascinated look. It was clear this was the first time she was seeing animals like this.

"Like I said, they are enchanted."

We walked deeper into grassland while I pointed out the different animals there that had been affected by the mystical energy of this area.

"So far, I've only seen preys," she smiled. "What about the predators of this place? Or is that you?"

The look in her eyes said a lot as I smiled and looked away.

"The predators of this land are dangerous even to us vampires," I noted. "The largest predators of this land are bears. They rule and they don't hesitate to kill outsiders who tend to come into their land."

"But isn't this their land? We just entered their land. Should we not be attacked like right now?"

I nodded.

"I'll protect you when the time comes."

The ground started to vibrate while the skies got filled with birds flying against us.

Something was coming but we didn't know what it was.

The distant sounds of numerous animals running towards us had me looking behind to see billows of dust coming towards us.

All around us were caves and I decided to hide Mara there. She would be safer there.

"What's going on?" She asked as I shrugged for even I didn't know what was going on.

"We need to get out of here."

I didn't know what the problem was but I was going to find out.

Grabbing her, I zipped to the edge of the grassland to climb up a mountain as I dropped her in an open cave where she would be safe.

From the top, I could look down at what was making the animals on the trail run like crazy.

That was when I saw them. Four massive bears like the one I had killed the other day, running towards me.

The purple glow on the bodies told me they were friends with the one I had killed as they started up the mountain to where I was.

"Stay in here and don't come out," I said, jumping off the mountain as I bashed into the first one, tumbling down the ground as we rolled to the ground while another zipped into me with its jaws wide open to bite off my head.

I utilized my speed, trying everything I could to evade these creatures but they were terrifyingly fast and too mad to even notice that I was trying to not fight with them.

Just as I zipped back, creating a large gap between us, I cloaked myself in darkness, standing poised and ready, my fangs gleaming with anticipation.

I would make sure I sent them to the exact place I had sent their friend. Bear heaven.

My body tensed up with my muscles getting ready to attack them.

The four bears, towering and majestic, started slowly towards me as they fanned out, walking around me but still maintaining the distance.

Before I knew it, they had me surrounded, their eyes glowing with a mixture of fury and determination.

They didn't do anything but stood their ground, watching me with narrow eyes. They wanted me to make a move that would be my undoing then they would take the opportunity to have my head.

With a roar that shook the very ground, the leader of the bears charged forward, its massive paws crashing against the forest floor.

Being swift and agile, I evaded the initial onslaught, my vampiric reflexes allowing me to dodge the bear's powerful strikes.

I knew if I made any silly mistake I would not live to tell the tale so I was careful with my actions.

I retaliated with a flurry of lightning-fast attacks, utilizing my supernatural strength to deliver bone-crushing blows.

With a kick in the ribs, I sent one of them flying into the distance as I faced the other creatures.

The other three bears were not going to give up as they zipped into me with the thought of bringing me down.

They used their monstrous strength on me which was too much to bear.

One bear was already too much but four was something else.

Even when I tried using my strength to push back, it was not enough against these mystical creatures.

One of them raised its paw, bringing it down on me. I reacted poorly to it which had me putting my arms over my head to hold it back from tearing through me with its claws.

Their roars deafened me, vibrating the ground around.

Grabbing its hand, I spun around with the creature, reaching ultimate speed until everything went from a blur to not even being visible before letting go of the creature.

When I came to a stop, I watched it fly off into the distance, whimpering before I faced the other threats.

They all roared in anger before zipping into me, ready to tear me apart.

As a creature of darkness and resilience, I tapped into my vampiric abilities. My body became a blur as I dodged the incoming attacks, my speed unmatched.

With a wicked grin, I countered with my own supernatural powers, unleashing a cloud of darkness that engulfed the bears, sapping their strength and disorienting their senses.

Unlike the way I had used my shadow powers to slice the other bear, I was ready to keep them alive and avoid killing them if possible.

I didn't want to come off as a murderer to mara. That would be very terrible to have as an image, so I tried my best to fight with them on even footing.

Slowly, they got their strength back and soon enough, the lost bear I had thrown away joined in as we all fought like monsters again.

I let go off my shadows, making sure to cover us all with darkness since I didn't want Mara to see me let loose.
