Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: If Sister Isn't Here

"Rustle..."

Though hesitant, Bai Yin decided to check the toilet for Yang Wei's body.

"Creak..."

The door of the room swung open.

And there, on the toilet, lay a completely dried-up corpse, catching Bai Yin's eye.

Judging by the attire, it appeared to be a female.

Indeed, it was a female.

Because the deceased was unmistakably dressed in a female school uniform.

Bai Yin took a few steps closer, carefully observing.

Ignoring the clothing and focusing only on the body's structure.

Finally, he concluded that it was, in fact, a male corpse.

"Weird..."

Bai Yin had never known Yang Wei had such a peculiar taste.

Hanging from the corpse's neck was a pouch.

Bai Yin hesitantly took it down.

Upon opening it, he found it contained Tieguanyin tea leaves.

"Huh?"

Bai Yin was puzzled.

But recalling from Yang Wei's diary that he intended to embrace Buddhism before his death.

Everything became clear.

Was it because of his newfound faith that he hung Tieguanyin around his neck?

It was truly astounding what this guy could come up with.

---

This guy, while a bit eccentric when cooperating on missions, Bai Yin thought.

Never did he imagine him to be like this when alone at home waiting to die.

---

For some reason, Bai Yin felt somewhat heavy-hearted initially.

But facing Yang Wei's corpse now, he felt no psychological pressure at all.

It was more like he wished to just find a trash bin and throw Yang Wei's body away, saving himself from embarrassment here.

---

The dried corpse had no obvious wounds.

Sitting on the toilet like an emperor, upright and dignified.

Bai Yin came up with a fitting term: "Frozen Throne!"

Bai Yin tentatively speculated that Yang Wei had committed suicide by overdosing on medication.

Not that he cared.

---

Just as he was about to leave the toilet.

He accidentally caught sight of a paper bag behind the toilet.

Curious, he retrieved it and opened it, finding a letter and a bunch of paper money inside.

Bai Yin took out the letter, its handwriting still belonging to Yang Wei.

It read:

"It's said that burning paper for oneself before death is useless.

So, I hope that kind-hearted souls who find this paper money

will burn it for me immediately!

As a reward, I'll bless you sincerely in hell.

Otherwise, be wary, for I'll be climbing through your window every night.

---

Also, if the one finding this letter happens to be my dear godfather and boss.

Here, I have a few words for you:

You bastard!!!!!

Piece of shit!!!!!

You promised to come and pick me up, didn't you?!!!!!

I should've chopped you up back then!!!!!

Damn scammer!!!!!

Five-second man!!!!!

Bai Yin will avenge me!!!!

The contents of the letter ended there.

Even through the words, one could sense the deceased's anger and resentment before death.

Bai Yin could only rub his eyes in response.

It seemed that in Yang Wei's heart, he was considered a good friend.

Otherwise, he wouldn't have mentioned him in his "last words."

---

After burning all the paper money, Bai Yin closed the toilet door.

Hoping that out of sight would mean out of mind.

---

Yang Wei was dead, so the next place Bai Yin had to go was his sister's home address.

Seeing the digital clock on the wall already showing "18:20".

And outside was gradually darkening.

For safety reasons, Bai Yin decided to leave tomorrow.

After all, Yang Wei's house and his sister's house were at least an hour's journey away.

If he were to venture out in the dark of night and something happened on the way.

It would be more trouble than it's worth.

---

---

Bai Yin made sure to lock all the doors and windows in the house and confirmed there were no other threats inside.

Then he took out a new cotton quilt from the wardrobe and spread it on the bed.

Not bothering to dust it off, he decided it was good enough to use.

When it was almost dark, Bai Yin pulled the curtains shut.

And then, he lit a few candles in the house.

---

He locked the door from the bedroom to the living room.

The entire bedroom was completely enclosed.

Sitting on the edge of the bed, Bai Yin ate a small loaf of bread in his hand, while Blackie ate the same kind of bread at his feet.

In the end, Bai Yin ate two, while Blackie ate one.

Bai Yin ate just to avoid hunger, while Blackie clearly aimed to eat his fill.

After finishing the entire loaf, Blackie seemed a bit full.

Bai Yin took out a bowl from his bag.

Placing it on the floor, he poured half a bowl of water for Blackie.

Blackie wagged his tail happily and went to drink, showing great enthusiasm.

Not long after, Bai Yin took off his coat and got into bed.

Leaning against the pillow, he read a book in his hand by the candlelight.

"Woof, woof..."

Blackie started barking at the bedside because it couldn't climb onto the bed and was a bit anxious.

"Shh, be quiet!"

Bai Yin lifted Blackie onto the bed, and Blackie hurriedly ran to Bai Yin's side.

Snuggling up against Bai Yin's shoulder, Blackie lay down there.

Occasionally, it would bite a few times, probably because its tail was itchy.

And then, it rested against Bai Yin's shoulder.

Watching Bai Yin flipping through the book in his hand.

"Are you interested in this?" Bai Yin asked with a smile, while Blackie just glanced at him.

With its big watery eyes, it looked innocent and naive.

Like a child full of curiosity about everything but understanding nothing.

"This is Robinson Crusoe, found in your previous owner's house..."

Bai Yin's voice was gentle.

"I read it once when I was a child, and now it's time for a review."

Bai Yin flipped through this different version of Robinson Crusoe, page by page, with relish.

While Blackie didn't have his level of energy.

Not long after, it fell asleep involuntarily.

And then, its body emitted a slight breathing sound, rising and falling.

"Blackie, what do you think... if tomorrow, there's no one at my sister's house...

What should we do next?" Knowing that Blackie couldn't hear anything at this moment, Bai Yin still couldn't help but mutter to himself.

Rather than asking for Blackie's opinion, it was more about his own confusion about the future.

Yeah, if tomorrow that address turns out to be empty, it's already changed so much,

Or, if I find my sister's body, dead for who knows how long.

What should I do next?

---

I used to live a normal life in a regular city.

At the same time, I had several long-term tasks on hand, keeping me busy.

But now, I've turned around and ended up in the post-apocalyptic world of zombies.

For ordinary people, just staying alive might be a challenge.

But with the help of the system, Bai Yin

While ensuring that he could live simply.

What followed was a lot of time bringing about idleness and confusion about the future.

"I hope to find something tomorrow."

With this expectation, Bai Yin closed the book and blew out the candle.

At the last moment before closing his eyes, the young man muttered to himself:

"Give me something to do, system, or I'll be bored to death..."

His own apocalypse seemed far less exciting than those science fiction novels...
