Chapter 20 - Chapter 20: Survival

"What, what should we do now?"

Li Huang, following behind Bai Yin, looked panicked.

There were few zombies on the stairs, but it was still very dangerous.

Bai Yin almost cleared the way as he ran towards the upper floor.

"Splut!!!"

Another zombie was knocked down by him.

"Never mind those, just run upstairs for now!"

Bai Yin's suggestion was quite scientifically grounded.

In his experience:

Usually, in a large building, there are always fewer zombies upstairs than downstairs.

After reaching the fifth floor, he suddenly turned back.

"What about those two?"

He was surprised and concerned.

"Here we are, here we are!!!"

Chen Jin, carrying Wang Lei on his back, caught up.

Bai Yin breathed a sigh of relief, not because the lives of these two were particularly valuable, but simply because the mission required everyone in the group to survive tonight.

After all, it was related to the ability of the corpse companion.

The team of five regrouped and continued to dash upwards.

The zombies behind them kept chasing, and their speed was not slow.

Nighttime zombies were far more aggressive than daytime ones.

"Hah, hah..."

Human stamina was limited after all.

No matter how Chen Jin initially burst with energy, carrying Wang Lei up more than a dozen floors, he began to feel a bit overwhelmed.

He couldn't keep up with the pace anymore.

Seeing Li Huang ahead, Chen Jin couldn't help but curse:

"Are you stupid? Can't you let her walk on her own?"

"Are you blind? Can't you see that Lei is injured?"

Chen Jin retorted angrily, hoping to gain Wang Lei's favor.

But Wang Lei showed no reaction, only deepening Li Huang's resentment.

Fortunately, they had already shaken off the zombies for several floors, or else these two wouldn't have time to argue.

This was the nineteenth floor of the department store, and going up would lead to the rooftop.

But there seemed to be nowhere else to hide at the moment.

So Bai Yin decisively headed for the rooftop.

"Creak!!!"

The door to the rooftop opened, and the five hurriedly rushed up.

Then, Bai Yin locked the door tightly.

As long as the other side didn't force the door open, there wouldn't be any trouble here.

There was a pavilion on the rooftop, about three meters high, seemingly just for decoration.

But if the zombies rushed over, the pavilion would be the last place to hide.

"We, are we safe now?"

Li Xin asked, still feeling unsettled.

Bai Yin didn't speak, just walked towards the edge of the rooftop to observe the surroundings.

Finally, he saw another rooftop of a huge building to the left.

That place was about seven to eight meters lower.

The horizontal distance was about three meters.

Simply put, it was possible to jump from this rooftop to that one.

The premise was that you could make the jump.

But failing the jump would mean falling to your death.

"Hey! You're injured, right? Where are you injured?"

Li Huang, not far away, aggressively questioned Wang Lei, who was being held by Chen Jin.

Chen Jin pushed him away directly, saying,

"What are you doing? Xiao Lei just sprained her foot, not bitten by zombies. Don't cause trouble now!"

Li Huang wasn't angered by Chen Jin's push. Instead, he looked Wang Lei up and down.

Only after confirming what Chen Jin said was true, did he really breathe a sigh of relief.

Li Huang didn't say anything, just gave the two of them a disdainful look, then went to Bai Yin's side.

Leaving behind a triumphant Chen Jin, tightly holding Wang Lei in his arms.

The current situation seemed safe for the time being.

After shaking off those zombies, they didn't know where the creatures had gone.

After feeling safe, Wang Lei's first realization was that she was being held by Chen Jin.

She instinctively felt a bit disgusted and showed a look of disgust.

But it was fleeting.

The next moment, she appeared shy and embarrassed, saying,

"Jin, Jin..."

"Ah, oh oh oh..."

Chen Jin finally came to his senses and quickly let go of Wang Lei.

While scratching his head awkwardly, he still savored the touch just now.

He felt ecstatic inside.

Under the embarrassment, there was clearly a satisfaction on a spiritual level.

"Sir, what should we do next?"

Li Huang asked Bai Yin.

In the current situation, Bai Yin seemed to have become the default leader of the team.

Bai Yin just took out a pocket watch and looked at the time. It was about three in the morning.

It would be at least four to five hours until dawn.

He pointed to the rooftop across from them and asked,

"What do you think? Can we jump over there?"

Li Huang smiled bitterly and said,

"This... seems a bit difficult, and it's so high. I'm afraid jumping down will break our legs..."

"It's okay!"

Bai Yin shrugged it off and stood on the edge of the rooftop's railing.

This scene startled everyone.

They were afraid Bai Yin might accidentally fall down.

But Bai Yin just made a ligbundle of hemp rope from his bag, tossed it over to Li Huang, who caught it swiftly.

Pointing to a sturdy pillar nearby, Bai Yin instructed, "Tie one end to that, then throw the other end over here."

"Alright, alright!" Li Huang quickly followed suit. After securing the rope around the iron pillar with several knots, he tied a stone to the other end and tossed it over. Bai Yin caught it and then tied the rope securely to the rooftop's sturdy railing.

The rope was just long enough to connect the two rooftops. Any shorter, and it might have been insufficient.
