The warehouse had three bunk beds, typical of employee dormitories, with upper and lower bunks accommodating six people. After a night of zombie chaos, everyone was exhausted, especially Bai Yin, who hadn't slept at all. He planned to rest early after lunch and then take over the night watch later.
---
Lunch consisted of instant noodles and canned pork. With pots and firewood readily available in the warehouse, Li Xinping decided to cook. After each person received a large bowl of noodles and a can of pork, they couldn't help but dig in. Enjoying hot food in such an environment was truly a luxury. Even Blackie, along with everyone else, ate without caring much about appearance.
However, Wang Lei seemed different.
---
Wang Lei poured the canned pork into a plate, then used chopsticks to pick out all the fat and threw it into Blackie's makeshift bowl on the floor. Blackie happily wagged his tail as he ate.
Bai Yin didn't say much about this and continued eating.
But Li Huang and Li Xinping couldn't help but look at Wang Lei. Seeing this, Wang Lei, with an air of superiority, said, "Why are you all looking at me? I'm a celebrity, of course I have to watch my figure. What if I get fat from eating so much fatty meat?"
The siblings were speechless and didn't respond, but they were clearly uncomfortable with Wang Lei's behavior.
At this stage, Wang Lei still had the mindset of a sheltered celebrity, which hadn't adjusted even after more than a year since the zombie outbreak. It was unexpected that there would still be picky eaters at this point.
---
The atmosphere at the dining table became somewhat awkward. But Bai Yin didn't care much. After finishing his meal and washing his face casually, he lay down on the bed. After setting an alarm, he fell asleep with Blackie in his arms.
"Ding ding..."
The alarm went off at eight o'clock at night. Upon waking up, Bai Yin found Wang Lei sleeping, while Li Huang and Li Xinping were preparing dinner. Dinner was ready, and Bai Yin woke up directly to eat.
Dinner consisted of rice with canned meat and pickled vegetables. The three of them sat down at the table, but no one called for Wang Lei.
"Brother, what about her..."
"Ignore her, let her sleep like a log!"
Li Huang's voice was filled with annoyance as he pointed at the bowl of rice and canned meat that had been set aside for Wang Lei, saying, "I'm willing to serve her food; that's already good enough. Anyway, she can eat it when it's cold. I don't want to spoil her."
Li Xin felt uncomfortable with this approach and said, "Don't say that. We're all under the same roof. There aren't many survivors left. If we all act like this, then we'll be too lonely."
Li Xin decided to wake Wang Lei up for dinner. She walked over and gently shook Wang Lei. Wang Lei, somewhat displeased, opened her eyes and lazily said, "What's up? I was sleeping so soundly!"
"It's time for dinner, Ms.Wang!"
"Ah, I'm on a diet. I won't eat, won't eat!"
With a hint of impatience in her tone, Wang Lei turned over and continued sleeping, covering herself with a blanket. Li Huang felt even more irritated by Wang Lei's reaction. Finally, he looked at Bai Yin and said, "Sir, look at her..."
"Shh!"
Bai Yin simply made a shushing gesture, signaling Li Huang not to make a fuss. Then, he picked up the bowl of rice from Wang Lei's bowl, scooped out one-third into Li Huang's bowl, and split the rest with Li Xinping.
"Sigh!"
Li Huang sighed helplessly but didn't say anything more, just continuing to eat, even though he was very unhappy.
After dinner, Li Huang and Li Xinping, who had been busy all day, quickly fell asleep. Bai Yin, on the other hand, moved a chair to sit at the entrance of the warehouse, lit a candle beside him, and sat there reading. Blackie was asleep in his arms, snoring softly.
"Rustle..."
Bai Yin turned the page of the book. It was talking about Robinson's cat mating with the wild cats on the island, resulting in many kittens, which gave Robinson a headache. Honestly, Bai Yin felt a bit envious when he read this part. Unfortunately, his Blackie was a little male dog, so he could never have grandchildren.
"Rustle..."
At this moment, there was a faint sound of footsteps behind the warehouse. Bai Yin turned his head and saw Wang Lei sneaking out of bed. Assisted by the moonlight, she went to the corner where the food was stored and took a loaf of bread.
Are you hungry?
Bai Yin thought, but he guessed she was. He pretended not to notice and continued to read his book.
About five minutes later, there was the sound of someone getting into bed. It seemed that Wang Lei had finished eating. But who cared?
---
Nothing happened overnight.
The next day, at about six-thirty in the morning, Bai Yin heard the system's response.
[Ding! Mission accomplished: The trio has successfully survived for 24 hours. Reward: Location of a nearby available car.]
[Location: Ground floor opposite the department store.]
---
Was the reward a car this time? Bai Yin felt somewhat helpless because he knew nothing about cars. Just as he was thinking about how to make use of this information...
[Ding!]
The third mission suddenly arrived.
[Ding! Mission issued: Get in the car and head to the next target city. Kill ten zombie dogs in that city. This mission consists of three parts. Completion of all parts will grant a reward: Granting Blackie the ability of Necrofriend. (3/3)]
---
The next city Bai Yin needed to go to was Shajiang City.
In other words:
As long as he got into this car and went to that place, killing ten zombie dogs, the three-part mission would be completed.
---
In other words, from now on.
Whether these three outsiders lived or died would have no effect on him?
Bai Yin couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief. Later, when everyone was awake and having breakfast, he said:
"I found a car yesterday. Maybe it can still run. Who can drive? Come with me to check it out later!"
As soon as he said this, everyone's faces showed awkward expressions. In the end, Li Huang reluctantly raised his hand:
"Originally, Fatty was the only one who could drive. Although I can also drive, I just got my license and I'm not very good at it!"
"It's okay, as long as it can move. You come with me later!"
"Alright!"
After breakfast, Bai Yin took Li Huang to the car pickup point mentioned by the system. They were cautious, afraid of being discovered by zombies. Fortunately, there were very few zombies in that area, and even the few nearby were taken care of by Bai Yin. Finally, they opened the gate and found a green SUV. It didn't seem like it hadn't been driven for a long time; it looked like someone had parked it here not too long ago. There was a corpse beside the SUV, dead
for only a month. Li Huang found the car keys on the corpse. Then he started the car and drove off.
"Vroom..."
The engine roared to life, and Li Huang accelerated, nearly throwing Bai Yin out of the passenger seat. Eventually, they arrived at the building where they all lived. Both of them quickly got out of the car. Taking advantage of the fact that the zombies hadn't yet realized what was going on, they closed the car door with a bang and went straight into the building.
