After one hell of a moment, we sit next to the campfire while I roast the pork meat. I can't help but be uncomfortable with how Elizabeth and Eric stare at me.
"Is....something wrong?" I asked as both of them stop staring at me.
"Forgive me, but what kind of meat are you cooking?" Ah, that actually make sense. They saw me cooking random meat without knowing what kind of meat is it.
"You humans.....call it Silver-Tusked Boar." I said while rubbing my furry chin. I forgot how much it feels like a beard.
"What?! Silver Tusked Boar isn't an edible monster! They smelled like trash!" I sweatdrop at Elizabeth's choice of words. Then again, I can't help but wonder who the fuck think letting its blood soak into the meat is a good fucking idea.
"I've eat....these.....and it tastes....fine." I coughed before drinking some water. "Try it...be careful, it's hot....." I use my makeshift chopstick and offers it to them.
"Umm..." Both of them look skeptical. I sigh before pull back my hand.
"Let me.....show it to you." I immediately put it into my mouth and oh gods.....it still taste as good as back then....mhm.... "See...? It's okay.....just eat...."
I continue to eat alone while ignoring them. If they want to eat these, they can simply take it. As I eat, I felt someone tapping my shoulder. I turn around and startled as Eric and Elizabeth both drool at me.
"C-can we...?" I facepawed at them. For fuck's sake, if you want to eat, just take it. I said it out loud that you guys can just take it!
"Yes..." I said it in one simple word before offering them a makeshift fork. Since their supplies were obliterated alongside the dead bodyguards, they won't have any utensils with them now.
"Thank you....." Both said at the same time before each taking one piece of pork. As they eat it, their eyes widen before picking another pieces like a rabid dog.
"S-slow down.....or you'll-!" Before I can finish my sentence, they cough and starts panting for burning their tongue. I can't help but sweatdrop before offering them some waters.
"T-thank you..." Elizabeth said before she blushed alongside Eric. They probably never act like this and feel embarrassed about it. I can't help but laugh at them.
"C-come on! Don't laugh! I never taste a boar meat this delicious before!" Elizabeth said in embarrassment while Eric cough.
"I am ashamed to act like that..." Eric said as I continue to laugh. I held myself before I pick up another piece and eat it.
"See? It's fine...." I said as both of them stare at me before nodding.
"I guess.....how did you learn how to cook?" Elizabeth asked curiously.
"I'm more surprised by the fact that you cook the meat. Most Kobolds I encounter always eat their meats raw." Eric points out.
"It taste....better when cooked...." I said as both of them simply nodded in agreement.
"Fair enough." I try not to snort at how they agree so quickly. Then again, no sane person will think raw meat tastes good. We both continue to eat normally next to the campfire.
"Sir Darren, I never got to talk about this, but thank you....for saving us." Elizabeth said before bowing. It catches me off guard as I wasn't expecting her to bow at me like that.
"No problem...." I replied as she stops bowing.
"And I'm terribly sorry for being rude, but we never got to introduce ourselves. My name is Elizabeth Einsworth, the second princess and heir to the throne of Celesterra Kingdom. This is my guardian knight, Sir Eric." She pointing at Eric before she paused herself and looking at me. "You know.....about kingdoms right?"
"Similar....to territory?" I asked, try to act like a Kobold living in the wild. Elizabeth ponders a bit before shrugging.
"You can say that, yes." She accepts the answer before she sits down. "And I am in debt to you for saving our lives."
"No need..." I told them. "I hate bandits...."
"I see...." Elizabeth look at me. "May I ask few questions?" I nodded at her. "Great. May I ask how you learn to talk?"
"....learning steps by steps....." I said.
"That's cool!" Elizabeth said while clapping her hands. "Can you tell us how you fight like that!? You didn't fought like any Kobolds Sir Eric hunt!"
"...self taught..." If I'm a Kobold, I might gave her a disbelief stare for her choice of words. I can see Sir Eric winced and look away.
"And from the bag you have, you plan on an adventure of your own, right!?" I simply nodded. Before she could ask more, Eric places his hand on her shoulder.
"Milady, it's already late.....get some rest." Eric said as Elizabeth looks at him before nodding.
"Okay....good night, Sir Eric. Sir Darren." She said as she went to the makeshift mattress and blanket. Eric sigh before looking at me.
"My apologies for milady to asks those questions." I wave my hand dismissively.
"No need to....apologize...." I said as Eric nodded.
"She try to distract herself from the death of my fellow comrades....." Eric said as Elizabeth covers her body and sleep. "She is still young and never saw deaths...seeing the bandits killed the comrades and you decapitate the bandit.....she try everything to not think about it....so, thank you....for not be upset with her questions...."
I watch Elizabeth sleeping while mutter 'sorry' under her breath. I guess what Eric said was right. I never was good at seeing through people, so I never notices it.
"I don't mind....her questions...I never like.....my kind...." I said as Eric looks at me. "They remain weak.....but they did.....nothing about it....mindlessly attack others...no thoughts....only instinct...."
".....I see." Eric simply nodded. "You are one peculiar Kobold, Sir Darren."
"Get rest.....Eric.....I'll take watch..." Eric looks hesitant at first but he simply walks into a nearby tree before sitting underneath it and lower his head while holding his sword.
I guess I can't blame him for not listening to my suggestion. I was a stranger to them. I continue to stare at the campfire while using my ears and nose to detect any dangers.
What a long day....
