Chapter 13 - Chapter 13

Ezequiel

This family is very strange, but apparently normal. I think Mateo is too innocent; he doesn't realize that Frederik is in a relationship with Arnold.

Frederik is another one from a great dynasty, now exiled and not so rich. He has a furniture company, but still gives everything he can to his son and his partner.

"Dad, I want to go out for a walk and I've contacted some friends," Alberto says to his father. He asks for permission to go out; It seems funny, but I realize he's serious.

"Go take a shower and go out for a while," he grabs his luggage and rushes out, then stops halfway and approaches me.

"Where is my room and the bathroom?"

"Take any room upstairs; they all have their own bathroom," I say bitterly. How is it possible that Margaret makes me go through this and doesn't even respond?

"Ezequiel, the kids went to take a bath," she says and uncorks a bottle. "It's been a great day," she pours a drink and gives it to me.

"I think I know who you are," I stand still. "I carried you when you were a baby; you are Margaret's secret son." I try to control my shock.

"I carried you too, you haven't changed much," says Arnol going down the stairs, "and I also saw you naked as a baby." They start laughing, I walk away towards the window. Did they really see me naked when I was little?

"You don't have to be embarrassed," I ignore them. Everyone knew about me, yet my father chose to reject me before I was even born. I take the last sip of my drink.

I keep watching the people pass by from the top. Frederick wants me to take care of Mateo; he doesn't want to take him because of his brother. Alexander is already getting fed up with his other children, at any moment he will want to have Mateo in his possession, is that why Margaret doesn't respond to me?

I hear them talking and laughing about meaningless things. I don't have time to waste on nonsense; the situation could get worse, the big storm is coming. I will manage to solve it; I am the strongest descendant. I didn't need my father or the family's recognition to be where I am; I achieved everything on my own.

"Ezequiel, it's almost dinner time, go take a shower, I'll order something to eat," Arnol says while cleaning up the mess from Mateo and his son in my apartment. That puts me in a bad mood, and I ignore him. Nobody tells me what to do.

"Ezequiel Chadburn, go take a bath for dinner," I turn to look at him, he called me by my first and last name, Frederick signals me to go bathe.

Reluctantly, I go; I want to assert myself in my property. I walk heavily up the stairs to show my disgust, when I was a child I did it with mom.

There are three rooms, but only one where I have the access card is mine. I unlock it and enter, finally in my space, I take off my clothes and get in the shower.

How much will they know about me and my mother? Even if they were banished, I don't think they know much. I send a message to Louis: "They seem to be good people, although I expect anything from this family."

I dress formally, put on a little perfume and fix my hair. I go out to dinner, I don't want to, but out of politeness I have to, sometimes sacrifices have to be made.

I go down the stairs in a bad mood, Alberto is playing with Mateo's drone. I sit at my table, the food is already served, I see the drone flying through my apartment, "be careful, you might break something," I say to give him a murderous look, he looks at me, but in the end he gives in and stops playing with the drone. In one day they almost damaged my apartment and Mateo wanted to take it to my house.

"Albert is a bit hyperactive," says Arnold.

"I'm ready," Mateo sits at the table.

"Ezequiel, look at my hairstyle," I turn to look at Mateo, he looks very adorable with two little bows, he looks like a girl. I'm not in the mood for that.

"Don't you like it?" His expression turns to sadness.

"It looks very nice on you," he gives me a smile to see Alberto, "Were you playing with my drone?" shouts.

"Why do you care what I do?" Alberto responds, making Mateo turn red with anger.

"Let's have dinner as a peaceful family without fighting, understood?" Arnold says.

"Dad, I'm going for a walk with some friends, I already told my father and he gave me the keys." I sigh, I don't like these family dramas.

"If your dad gave you permission, go carefully and don't drink," Alberto leaves very enthusiastically.

"He's finally gone," shouts Mateo and starts eating.

We have dinner very peacefully with good wine, at least they have good taste in food. Arnold takes the plates and goes to clean them with Mateo.

My phone rings, it's a message from Andrés: "So, were they the ones they banished when I was younger? I remember they didn't seem like bad people. Everything went well at the company today." That calms me down, although I want to know a little more, but Mateo is here, and I don't want him to know.

"Ezequiel, let's watch a movie as a family." Mateo very enthusiastically invites me

"They are not my family," I say with disgust.

"If you live with Mateo, you are already part of the family," Frederick says, patting me on the back, and they sit on the couch to watch movies. I won't be a part of that; I take my laptop and start working in the dining room. My finances are doing very well; they have already eliminated the leak.

...

Someone touches my shoulder, " Ezequiel, it's time to go to bed, Mateo has already gone to sleep," I didn't realize the time, I look at my phone, it's twelve o'clock.

"Ezequiel, go to sleep," says Frederick, "didn't your mothers teach you to listen to your elders?"

Reluctantly I take my laptop and go to my room in my apartment, I hate being treated like a child, I go into the room and change into my pajamas, I lie down on the bed and try to sleep but I can't. This is my chance to know something about mom, I don't have to listen to someone like them.

I get up and go to one of the two rooms, it is empty so I go to the other and Mateo is sleeping. They have to be in the other room, I go down the stairs, when I see Arnol stuck to the window glass and Frederick kissing and groping him, my phone rings and they turn to look at me.

"What are you doing in my apartment?"

"Didn't I send you to sleep?" She lets go of Arnold, he looks a little agitated, they adjust their pajamas, "when parents send their children to sleep it's to do things, you understand?"says Frederick.

"I don't have a father," I say angrily, I can almost see them screwing in the living room.

"Well, now you know," they sit on the couch, and Arnold sits next to them, taking him by the arm . I walk and sit on the front couch.

"I want to know something," I watch them both settle in even more, "did you know my mother."

"Of course, we saw you when you were very young," says Frederick, stroking Arnold's hair. "although we lost touch when you came to Japan, we found out about her death from Margaret. She was a good woman, although it seems she didn't live well in her final years."

I clench my fists, "she was a wonderful woman, but something changed in her during that time that I didn't know," during that time, my mother didn't want to spend time with me, she hated me for some strange reason, "that's what I want to know."

"It must have been hard for you, but I don't have that information, I'm sorry I can't help you," those words hurt me, I still don't know anything about my mother.

The door begins to ring, it must be their spoiled son, I get up devastated and open the door.

"Dad, I barely drank at all," his alcohol smell is disgusting, he can barely walk. I close the door and move away from him.

"You know you weren't supposed to drink, I'm angry with you," Arnold scolds him, seeing his son's state of drunkenness.

"Dad, help," he says, staggering, barely walking.

"What's going on?" Disheveled Mateo says on the stairs, surely the noise of his stupid cousin woke him up. Arnold walks towards Mateo, I think he's worried about him falling down the stairs.

"Dad, I'm the one who needs help," Frederick gets up and tries to take Alberto to the second floor, "come on, Ezequiel," says Frederick. I walk with them as if I were a child without a family, I hesitate a bit to help, but in the end, I reluctantly help them. We take Alberto to the room and throw him on the bed, he does nothing, he's very drunk. Mateo snuggled up next to his uncle, and Alberto fell asleep between his parents. I try to sneak out while they settle in to sleep.

"Goodnight, Ezequiel, if you feel lonely there's room for you," says Arnold as he tucks in his son.

"Goodnight," I say and go to my room. I didn't receive affection from my mother, in her later years she became isolated, and I didn't have a father, I spent most of my childhood alone. It's painful to remember those days and to ask for my mother, who only rejected me, I want to know what made my mother suffer.

I enter my room resigned, it's strange to be with normal families, I always wanted to have one and a brother. I lie down on my bed, but I didn't know that such a family would be a headache, I hope they leave soon, my patience is running out. I can still feel the unpleasant smell of Alberto.
