Chapter 4 - Do As I Say

Do as I say

Still in the valley, a woman with ebony, cascading, undulating hair, diminutive eyes, a sharply-defined nose, and dainty, rosy lips was attending to a group of men, serving them a hearty breakfast. She deftly poured what appeared to be steaming porridge into vessels crafted from calabash. This woman was none other than Sara, Jason's sole female confidante in the valley. Despite her diligent task, her countenance betrayed her preoccupation; she was lost in contemplation, her thoughts consumed by Jason.

Jason was expected to join them for breakfast, and Sara always made it a point to serve him first. The fact that he was absent from the morning meal filled her with an overwhelming sense of fury. The cause of his absence was their captive vam. Jason had been lavishing an inordinate amount of attention upon the vam, and Sara couldn't help but yearn for the vam's disappearance from the realm of existence. Deliberately, she chose to withhold the news of the vam's predicament until sunrise, relishing the expectation of the vam's demise before Jason's arrival. She inwardly smirked at the prospect of the vam's certain demise, envisioning Jason's return and her subsequent role in consoling him.

As the meal drew to a close, Jason finally made his appearance. Sara began to spread out a picnic cloth, intending to serve him with care and attention. However, his abrupt words shattered her efforts: "Uh, Sara, double the food and no need to set anything up. I won't dine here." She was immobilized by his proclamation. Almost shrieking, she demanded, "Why?" His gaze conveyed everything she needed to comprehend. Trembling with shock, she managed to speak in a stunned yet composed manner, "The vam is still alive?" He casually responded while gathering the food from the picnic cloth, "It appears this vam has a fondness for sunlight." Sara was dumbfounded, grappling with the implausibility of the situation. She felt an urgent need to witness it firsthand.

As he lifted the provisions and began to depart, she seized his arm, turning him to face her, and implored, "Don't tell me that the vam requested food." Jason extricated himself from her grasp, retorting, "She didn't need to. She's a captive, not a slave." A surge of conflicting emotions coursed through Sara's mind as she grappled with the realization that Jason was extending care and concern to the vam, punctuated by the resounding thought, "Wonderful! Now he's demonstrating compassion toward the vam," echoing through her consciousness.

"Give me the food and allow me to serve her myself," she asserted with a soft yet firm voice. Swiftly taking the meal from Jason before he could respond, she strode purposefully to the vam's location. Upon arrival, she discovered the sun-adoring vam seated tranquilly. Approaching the vam, she unceremoniously dropped the food on the ground, startling the vam. Jason, who had been approaching from behind, also halted in astonishment. Passing by him, she murmured, "We must instill fear in her or become her worst nightmare." His bewilderment pleased her and she relished in that feeling.

Returning with chains, she was confronted by Jason, who seized her shoulder and inquired, "What's with the chains?" Speaking in a tone akin to an evil mastermind, she responded, "You stated that she is now our captive, so she must be treated as such." Liberating herself from his grasp, she approached the vam and knelt beside her, nudging the food she had dropped closer to the vam.

Sara addressed the vam with a smile, saying, "You consume human food instead of blood. Are you truly a vampire?" The vam remained silent. Sara grinned and seized her by the chin, her wolf-like claws elongating, forcing the vam to meet her menacing gaze. "Answer me when I pose a question to you," she commanded. Releasing the vam, she stood up and began to depart, only to be taken aback when the vam spoke for the first time, boldly declaring, "I am not afraid of you.

She lets the vam go and as she stands up and turns to leave, when she hears the vam speak for the first time. "Am not scared of you"the vam replied with boldness. The vam's bold declaration echoed in the air as Sara turned to leave, taken aback by the vam's unexpected defiance.

Sara let's out a laugh."Do as I say, if you want to keep breathing",she said in her most scary voice."Wear the chains after your meal and let me warn you, I won't repeat myself",she ended with this command before walking away. Right after she left, Jason snapped out of the shock and walked to the vam." Sorry for the rudeness from her but come on eat the breakfast she brought,I know she looks scary but she can't hurt you",he said struggling to make up words." I will talk to her so stop overreacting and eat"he said seeing how the vam watched Sara disappear. "I will be right back",he finally said before leaving the vam who now drew her attention to the food and then the chains on the ground.

After the scene Sara made, Ella's mind was totally set. She wasn't going to eat the food. Instead, she put on the chains .The reason was that ,Badu warned her once ,during wartime studies that trusting the enemy ,even if you had a reason to, was suicidal. An example was food, it could be poisoned with sleeping pills or any other drug to kill you or make you lose your guard and give them valuable information. She wasn't going to give them what they wanted. She continued to stare at the food ,till she heard a footstep behind her. She turned to see a tall man with black hair, light brown skin, small eyes, flat nose ,perfect jawline and muscular body.
