Jason knelt near Ella, the vam from last night, and waited for her reaction to his sudden action. She looked at him in utter silence. He finally spoke in a mocking tone, "Never knew vams enjoy sunlight." Ella replied to his mockery, which still showed his disbelief in the fact that she was a vam, by saying, "There is much more you can never know." He laughed at her answer and said, "You may be right, but I can find out by asking questions. So let's start with you telling me your name."
It appeared as though Ella was about to reveal her name, but then she remembered that she had planned not to give any information about herself to people who were still her enemies. She finally blurted out, "It's of no importance to you." Jason grinned upon seeing that she didn't fall for his tricks and then spoke, "Then you must accept it when I call you fangless vam or royal sacrifice." She shouted in disapproval, "Don't call me that."
Jason enjoyed the way Ella reacted to his teasing and said, "I won't if you tell me your name." She was about to speak when she heard her belly growl. Jason noticed it and instantly stood up, remarking, "I see my fangless vam gets hungry like a human. I will go get you some food." She was about to speak, but her stomach growled again. She stayed quiet and watched him go. She thought to herself that a little food to appease her hunger wouldn't be bad, but then her eyes widened as if she had remembered a horrifying thought. This pertained to the food she was about to be served.
As Jason strode off to fetch food for Ella, she sat in silence, her mind consumed by a tangled web of emotions and fears. Her encounter with Jason, a Wolf who seemed to hold a mix of curiosity and mockery towards her Vam/human like nature, had left her on edge. The exchange of words had been a dance of power and suspicion, each veiled statement a subtle test of trust and vulnerability.
Ella's reluctance to disclose her name stemmed from a deep-seated wariness of those who were definitely still her enemies.
She also didn't know what to expect if these wolves found out that her whole family was a powerful breed of Vams immune to the effects of the sun.She did deceive them to leave Badu to die in the Sun.
She was totally confident that Badu would not only survive but he would also inform their dad of her capture.
Her Dad once said that vams lived in a world where trust was a rare luxury, and she was no exception. She needed to harbor an inherent suspicion, a product of no past encounters with Wolves and others who sought to exploit or harm her kind.
She asked if she was overthinking as Jason's offer of food hung in the air but Ella's thoughts had to turned to her survival instincts deeply ingrained in her supernatural being.
Vams, with their unique dietary needs which Ella had no need to adhere to could be her excuse to refuse the meal. But her sustenance could be a matter of life and death. Her sudden fear of the breakfast was rooted in a primal instinct to question the safety of the food being offered, especially by someone she did not fully trust.
Furthermore Ella's reaction traced to cultural or supernatural taboos regarding food all made up by her brother Incase she ever had to lie to anyone who questioned why she never drank blood.
Vams often had specific dietary restrictions, and Ella's wariness could be blamed on her non existent but suitable for the moment drive for a deep-seated aversion to certain types of food, especially when offered by someone with questionable intentions.
Yet, there was more to Ella's fear than mere dietary concerns. Beneath the surface, she was taught to sense hidden threats, a looming danger lurking beneath seemingly innocuous actions. Her heightened state of alertness was a testament to the complexities of her existence in the vast world for the first time in her life and the delicate balance of power and control in her interactions with Jason.
Could it be a deeper layer of complexity in the possibility of psychological trauma. Ella's past might have been marred by traumatic events related to food or sustenance, leaving her with a perpetual fear response in situations where she felt vulnerable or uncertain.
As Jason disappeared from view, leaving Ella alone with her thoughts she tried to recall exactly why she had remembered the horrifying thought. It wasn't about the food y but the one who weas going to her get her the breakfast she was about to be served. She replayed everything like her memories was a cinema she could visit at anytime.
