Shin stood in front of the smartest student at the entire Saturon University... and that's the question.
"Do you desire something, my colleague?" Shin asks, giving a small smile in front of Nishumori, excited for what would come out of that boy's mouth.
They stared at each other for a good while. Shin had determination and strong pride in his intelligence, and he would never lower himself to his level… even though he was at the top of the leaderboard. His ego wasn't easily shaken, always striving to surpass himself at every moment.
Then, Nishumori responds to him.
"Nothing, my good colleague, I just came to greet you... wishing everyone a good day, right?" Nishumori responds politely, looking at his two companions with a smile.
Jing, with a neutral expression, feels embarrassed by this and quickly goes to the point of something he wanted to say to him for a long time.
"To everyone? Are you greeting everyone? I will ask each person in this corridor now if it's true." Jing confronts Nishumori, and some people in the corridor who were present begin to watch them. Some were impressed by this, while others, deep down, began to laugh quietly, seeing Jing confront the student who was at the top of the university.
Nishumori is not bothered by this and claps his hands, making his voice heard from the third to the first floor.
"Good morning, everyone! I hope you have a good study session!" Nishumori shouts, and everyone hears this, surprised, and most (not all) return his greeting.
Jing, speechless by this, has nothing to do but listen without asking anyone individually.
Shin's gaze remained calm, while Jing was irritating him without a significant purpose.
Shin calmly pats his best friend's back and tells him to breathe a little and be able to discuss calmly without causing unnecessary fights.
"Alright, I don't know what got into you... as a student, you were never one to greet anyone below your level," Jing explains in front of him, and Nishumori starts whispering to his companions.
They begin to whisper reciprocally, and finally, he responds to Jing.
"Although we usually value those in the top 5 of the leaderboard and no one below... we also started to think about valuing more those who stand out the most in each course." Nishumori affirms, taking out his notepad and jotting down some things while explaining.
He was calm about it, further proving to have a notepad in his possession, jotting down what he could to learn anything that suited him.
Shin was even minimally happy about it, identifying a bit with it… knowledge is power, no matter what.
"It could be from the top 15, 30, 50, or even below the top 80… in the end, everyone has a unique focus on what stands out the most," Nishumori concludes his final words, contributing to the question Jing asked him.
Shin gives a small pat on his best friend's head, and he calms down at that.
Nishumori Nen can be friendly and methodical, but he can also be very selfish and resentful depending on who messes with him. What caught his attention was Shin being with someone who wasn't even in the top twenty on the school's leaderboard.
Implying with his eyes that Shin should value himself a little more and hang out with people who can contribute better to his evolution as a student and professional.
But Shin cares little about that and does as he pleases, still standing out strongly at the university.
"It was nice to get to know you a little more, Nishumori Nen... I appreciate the chat, we need to go," Shin says, and he grabs his best friend's hand, walking to the end of the corridor towards the classroom.
Nishumori says nothing but notices something on Shin's forehead, which makes him curious.
He strangely feels this gaze coming from him and asks what he desires.
"Hello, do you need something again?" Shin asks, and Nishumori feels a little scared by that.
A human-like him shouldn't feel the gaze that came from behind unless they had unusual abilities. He felt like he was being observed, not from paranoia… but with certainties.
Again surprised by this, Nishumori says it's nothing and just greets him and his friend, hoping to meet them again on another day or hour.
"Alright, I'll need to see if our next meeting will be possible then," Shin replies, giving a small wink with his right eye and walking again with his best friend.
The people in the corridor are confused by this, and Nishumori grumbles and walks to the opposite side with his companions.
Everyone then returned to their normal duties, and the atmosphere became calm again.
"Why didn't you let me confront him even more, Shin?" Jing asks with a slightly angry tone as his best friend stops him from continuing to confront Nishumori.
Shin, without saying much, only advises him as follows:
"A strong man defends himself, the strongest man defends others," Shin replies with a few words from a phrase he had stored away years ago when he was a child.
This phrase was taken from a cartoon he had seen when he was five years old. It told the story of a bull who was the leader of all the animals, and on a fateful day... he was murdered by coyotes without proper care.
