"Mr. Jaylen, get up and take your medicine."
Katherine and Eric woke up to the nurse's words. Eric sat up and took his medicine, while Katherine sat up in the corner where she had fallen asleep last night.
With the way she was staring at Eric from the corner, if glare could kill, Eric would have been dead by now.
"By 10:00am, come down for exercise, and physical therapy," the nurse added before she took her leave.
"But I can't move my body yet," he said, but the nurse ignored him.
Katherine stood up and walked over to him. "Your body isn't strong, but your lips are strong for a kiss?" She asked angrily.
Not only was she reminded of Asher's kiss, but also the fact that her first kiss in this second chance life was from Eric.
She regretted giving in to Eric's suggestion. If he had insisted, she should have let him go by himself, and then what happened last night wouldn't have happened.
"Hmm, maybe," he shrugged.
"Maybe? Am I a doormat to you?" She asked loudly.
"Don't be ridiculous. How can I say my wife is a doormat? Besides, I kissed you yesterday because I had no choice," he explained calmly.
She laughed at his explanation. "You couldn't come up with another way? Or you were trying to make a memorable night?"
Eric, who was already tired of this conversation, yelled at her. "Why are you acting like I forcefully did it? You consented to it. You closed your eyes and also kissed me back, or am I lying?"
His words triggered a quick flashback for her. She remembered clearly how his soft lips felt and how sweet they tasted. She couldn't resist any longer, but that didn't change the fact that he was at fault. If he hadn't kissed her first, she wouldn't have given in to momentary lust.
"Hmm, I admit we are both at fault here," she said, finally calmed. "Let's not kiss each other no matter the trouble we are in. Let's just get into trouble, because I hate kissing a guy that I don't like. Also, let's assume what happened last night, no, yesterday, didn't happen at all," she clarified.
She didn't want to recall what happened yesterday– starting from Eric being caught kissing her cousin, dressed to her wedding like a maid, Asher's presence, Eric's injury and their kiss, she desperately wants to forget them.
"I don't care if you like me or not, you are my wife. I am not to follow that rule you set up," with that said, Eric stood up and walked out. Even though he was still feeling pain, he would rather keep tumbling than allow Katherine to help him.
'Why is he like this? Why isn't he doing what I want, but expecting me to do everything he says?' she questioned herself, wondering if she made a mistake marrying him.
But one thing is clear, she would have been dead without this marriage. She knew everything was bound to rehappen, but how will it be this time? Will her fate twist for good? Or take a dangerous turn?
"I should go take a bath, I reek," she said to herself after noticing a bad odor from her body.
Since her dress was at home, she had no choice, but to go to Dayton residence.
She got into a cab to the house. It was a hectic ride, but she had no right to complain. At least she arrived quicker than she thought.
"Why are you back home?"
The moment she entered the living room, she was greeted by Annabella's question. She ignored her and went to her room.
She took a bath and put on her favorite gown. She stared at herself in the mirror, tears welling up in her eyes.
'I can't believe I'm feeling teary. I should have been living happily, but my mistake ruined it,' even though she tried to stop her tears, it kept streaming down her face.
After a while of monologuing, she headed downstairs. Just as she was about to walk out, Annabella blocked her way.
"Annabella, what is this about?" She inquired, trying to be polite. She wasn't used to replying to Annabella like she does reply to others. Maybe because she used to be scared of Annabella and respect her way too much, she hasn't gotten over that behavior.
Annabella chuckled at how polite she sounded, knowing Katherine was just trying to hide her fear and pretend to be brave in front of everyone. "Leave my man… Go after your lover, Asher!" Her voice echoed in the room.
"My husband, you mean?" Katherine raised an eyebrow and asked before pushing her out of the way, then walked out. She knew if their conversation continued, Eric would think differently of her.
She knew Annabella would be there, fuming and cussing at her.
'A message?' Her lips parted at the sound from her phone. She brought out her phone, and checked her inbox.
Her phone slipped from her hands at what she just read. It was a threat from Asher.
'Keep doing what you're doing; hiding, appearing, and acting all high. Like a thief, I will come unexpectedly to take what belongs to me. You and Eric should be prepared for my comeback,' the message read.
Her fingers trembling, she managed to message him back. 'Go to hell and don't ever show your face to me, you son of a b*tch!'
'Go to hell? Why not let's go to hell together? Should I come and meet you over there? Or will you come and meet me?' Asher's reply was fast and unexpected. It was both funny and scary at the same time.
"Is he closer? Did he know I was here?" She questioned audibly, scanning everywhere until her gaze landed on him. He was standing in the corner as if he anticipated this reaction from her, his hands folded across his chest.
