Chapter 41 - Try To Get a Job?

After the military men left their floor, Theodore turned to Roxanne and Geoffrey. He wanted to know if they intended to work with the army men.

"What do you think about their offer? Do you intend to work for them?" Theodore slowly looked back and forth at Roxanne and Geoffrey.

"Shouldn't we work for them?" Geoffrey tilted his head in confusion. He did not consider the soldiers' words an offer but rather an order.

At Geoffrey's words, Roxanne nodded in agreement. It was her first time meeting the military people, so she did not think of ignoring their orders.

"We should come tomorrow to see what we can do for them, it's not bad that we can get food from them." Roxanne also shared her thoughts on their current situation.

"Believe me, you don't have to obey their words. But since you are already thinking of working, I won't stop you," Theodore replied, shrugging his shoulders indifferently.

"Then you will not work for them?" Geoffrey asked Theodore out of curiosity.

"No, I intend to go out on base with them." Theodore had already considered joining the military's search team and would find out about this tomorrow.

"Gosh, I didn't know you wanted to go out," Geoffrey said, looking at Theodore in disbelief.

"Are you sure about that, Theo?" Roxanne looked at Theodore with concern. She didn't think Theodore would decide to go zombie hunting.

"I wanted to familiarize myself with the presence of those zombies, so I decided to go out." Of course, Theodore wouldn't tell her the real reason.

Roxanne and Geoffrey didn't understand Theodore's mind; they were sure that no one would voluntarily go out to kill zombies, but Theodore thought otherwise.

"Then I'll see you tomorrow. I assume we should leave as early as possible; there seems to be a lot of people going to the headquarters of this base," Theodore said then.

"See you tomorrow, brother Theo!" Geoffrey waved before entering his apartment with Roxanne.

As Theodore returned to his kitchen, he could feel his heart beating faster. He was already looking forward to tomorrow. He hoped that the military people had a rescue squad that would go out of the base.

Theodore slowly walked towards the sizable window in his kitchen. From a distance, he saw that the soldiers had made a boundary in the area that would become City A's base.

Regarding the information of the awakened people, Theodore hoped that his power would not be discovered by the people from the military.

From his previous life, Theodore understood that dealing with the military was not always suitable for him, so he tried not to get attached to them as much as possible.

Theodore just wanted to work to earn credits and also raise his level by killing zombies outside the base.

"Hopefully, they won't be interested in me; it's better to hold back when faced with them." Theodore's gaze narrowed sharply towards the headquarters of City A's base center, which was visible from his window.

. . .

From dawn, Theodore had already woken up and was getting ready to go to the military base that was the center of their base. He was also curious about how many people had survived in city A.

However, considering that city A was one of the largest cities, Theodore thought that many people in the suburbs were trapped in their homes and couldn't get out to save themselves to the base.

The soldiers would most likely contact people close to the base. One reason Theodore chose this apartment was that it was strategically located and belonged to the initial area of the City A base.

Theodore sat at the dining table while eating the meat-filled dumplings he had fried earlier. By now, his refrigerator was full of dumplings he had made yesterday.

"Should I bring lunch? But yes, if I go straight to work today," Theodore muttered, still unsure.

While finishing his breakfast, Theodore continued to consider whether to bring lunch. He finally packed some of his dumplings in a container and put them in his backpack.

After ensuring nothing was left behind, Theodore walked out of his apartment, intending to pick up Roxanne and Geoffrey.

When Theodore opened his door, he simultaneously saw Geoffrey and Roxanne coming out of their apartment.

"Wow! Good morning, brother Theo!" Geoffrey immediately perked up when he saw Theodore coming out of his apartment.

"We were just about to pick you up," Roxanne said, covering her mouth as she chuckled softly.

"Apparently, you're ready; I thought it was too early for you," Theodore replied in surprise.

"For him, it's still too early," Roxanne said as she ruffled Geoffrey's hair.

Eventually, Geoffrey got annoyed, and they went downstairs, accompanied by an argument between Roxanne and Geoffrey; Theodore only got to laugh at their argument.

"Hey, Geof, do you mind if they make you do the heavy lifting later?" Theodore finally voiced his concern.

Theodore was aware that Geoffrey was immature—one could say very young, considering he was only 15 years old. Since Theodore had already experienced this apocalypse in his past life, he knew for sure that this world was very harsh for youngsters like Geoffrey.

For a moment, Geoffrey was silent when he heard Theodore's question. Honestly, he was afraid of what would happen to him later.

"Don't I have no other choice?" Geoffrey looked at Theodore seriously.

When Geoffrey stared at him like that, Theodore realized that even if he was afraid, he could only endure it and do his best to continue to survive.

"After all, I've already gone through something scary while being with you. So I don't care anymore about what will happen to me later," Geoffrey continued as he shrugged his shoulders indifferently.

The corners of Theodore's lips were slightly raised when he heard Geoffrey's words. Living in an apocalyptic environment like this must indeed require a strong mentality. He was satisfied when he heard Geoffrey's answer.

"Tell me if anyone messes with you," Theodore said later while patting Geoffrey lightly on the shoulder.

Geoffrey grinned when he heard that. "Will you beat them up for me?" he asked enthusiastically.

"Depends on the situation," Theodore replied nonchalantly.

"Tch!" Geoffrey retorted, rolling his eyes lazily at Theodore's reaction.

Roxanne, who saw their interaction, was happy; she was very grateful to know Theodore and hoped they could continue living comfortably like this.

The situation seemed to change soon after today, given that they would have busy lives after working for the military.
