Chapter 2 - The Fifth Mission (1)

A small meteorite was crossing the vastness of space while bending it in the direction of a certain green planet. It was so small and insignificant that it crossed massive distances without even being noticed. Still, some people on that green planet predicted that a calamity was fast approaching them.

Those people alerted their masters, kings, and emperors about the calamity. Still, before any of them, they paid heed to their words. They were only visions of people who spent most of their time reading old books in dark and dusty rooms. That alert was only something that their mind came up with to give meaning to their insignificant lives… or so they thought.

The meteorite approached that green planet and eventually crossed its atmosphere. As if its trajectory had been made to make as many people as possible see it, the meteorite crossed the sky for hundreds of kilometers before falling at the base of a certain mountain. The object was only five meters long, but it still opened a massive crater on the ground that was twenty times bigger… after making the land tremble and raising a curtain of dust, the object suddenly split evenly into two, and from its interior, a single human emerged.

"So, this is the next target…" A dark-haired man said while looking around with a hard-to-read expression due to his empty, ember eyes.

For some reason, the man was naked, but aside from that, he looked completely normal. There was no physical appearance or action that made him stand out in that situation. If anything, he looked quite weak… one would wonder how he survived the impact inside the meteorite.

"Necromancer… This one is going to be quite depressing," Aaron said, and then a dark cloak suddenly appeared and covered his body.

Aaron looked around to check the terrain once more, and he realized that he couldn't see any town or village in the distance. Fortunately, he could climb the mountain to have a good view of the region, even if the task was going to be difficult for the current him.

Without wasting time and while showing a blank expression, he began to climb the mountain. The path wasn't so bad, even though there wasn't a real path. The only real problem was that he was in a hurry, and he couldn't bother to pay attention if his feet were stepping on sharp stones or not. The pain of each step was a bit annoying, but he kept ignoring it to the best of his ability.

The mountain was only three kilometers tall, and with his current speed, Aaron climbed it in half an hour. He didn't find any dangerous creatures or if the inhabitants of that world could become a problem, but it was only a matter of time before someone approached to check the area and the meteor.

"There is a village five kilometers south of here… but I can also sense some life forms on the way," Aaron said. "I don't have time to waste, even unarmed. I will have to deal with them."

Aaron climbed down the mountain while running. He almost collided against some boulders along the way and almost lost his footing several times because of that. Still, in the end, he always recovered and avoided the disasters that could have happened.

When he reached the base of the mountain, the smell of blood on his feet attracted some creatures that were hidden nearby. The hairy creatures were almost three meters tall and had four arms with sharp-looking claws on them. They seemed strong and quite durable, considering Aaron's current strength. Their fur was yellow, and it was quite weird since they resembled a bit of bears… in any case, there were three of them, and Aaron was alone. When the beasts charged at him, he grabbed two stones on the ground.

At the moment one of the beasts got close enough, Aaron charged toward it and then threw one of the stones at the creature's eyes. That gave him the opening that he wanted… he jumped and slipped between the legs of the creature and quickly got up. Before the monsters could follow him, Aaron climbed the monster that he had just attacked and then began to smash the head with the remaining stone. The creature was paralyzed, but Aaron didn't stop.

Before he could finish the job, the other two beasts approached him and then slashed their claws to claim his head. However, Aaron kicked the back of the right knee of the monster he was grabbing and made it fall, buying him some extra seconds when the claws passed above his head.

When the creature began to fall, Aaron grabbed the rock with two hands and then smashed the skull of the creature.

The beast was killed, but the fight wasn't over. Aaron used Summon Skeleton on the body while he jumped to the side. At the same time, a white sphere left the beast's body and entered his. Soon after, the other creatures swung their claws and hit the spot that he had been a moment before. The corpse exploded, and the flesh, blood, and fur of the creature blinded the remaining two for a moment.

When they recovered, they saw a skeleton in the place of their fallen ally, a skeleton with a long bone in its hands. The creature swung the bone toward the head of one of the beasts, and the strike landed, making it dizzy. The other beast tried to attack the skeleton from behind, but a stone that was thrown at its face stopped the beast.

The monster looked annoyed at Aaron, but he didn't look even a bit fazed by the bloodlust. While the beast was wasting time staring at him, the skeleton began to crush the skull of the second monster. They were weaker than the four-armed beasts, but the game was pretty much over once they hit the targets with their bones.

When the skull of the second monster was cracked, the last one charged at Aaron. He didn't even bother to raise his guard… he just jumped to the side and avoided the claws that the enemy swung at him. The beast tried again, but then an explosion happened behind, and then one of the skeletons suddenly jumped on the back of the creature and began to attack. The bear-like monster tried to free itself, but the second joined the attack, and they began to smash the beast's head. The monster tried to protect itself from the attacks with its four arms, but even those didn't last long, they were smashed, and its skull was the next target.

Aaron used a summon skeleton on the last one as well. He thought that he could use the fur and meat to trade for some real clothes, but it was too soon for that. Aaron would only look suspicious if he showed up while carrying an unarmed monster of that size, coming from the direction the meteorite fell.

"Attack all the monsters in the area and pile their bodies here," Aaron ordered his skeletons, and then they began to move in a group in search of new targets.

Together, they could win even against a larger group of enemies, so it was better to keep them together. It seemed that Aaron would be able to level up while not fighting directly, and he would have the help of a skeleton army, which would be convenient. The only problem his build would have was focusing on magic, and he didn't know if he would get spells that would become stronger and wouldn't need the help of the skeletons or even bones to be used.

"I don't need to worry about this now… I should just increase their numbers and move on," Aaron thought while he was heading toward the village.

The path ahead was covered in not-so-tall grass. Still, there were plenty of trees along the way. The monsters used those to hide, so Aaron wondered why the villagers left those creatures alone to multiply. That was weird, if anything…

After a while, Aaron reached the village, and since he didn't try to hide and, the villagers were aware of him because he came from the direction the meteor fell. For some reason, Aaron only found a few men in their thirties armed with farming tools on his way. He could see some women in the distance, but no kids…

"Hello, can you tell me which direction the road to the nearest town is?" Aaron asked while forcing a smile. "Something happened in that mountain, and I ran away at max speed, and I got lost due to the fear. I barely escaped from those creatures on the base of the mountain and ended up losing most of my things."

"... It is East of here; you can find the nearest town if you keep going north for two days," One bald man who had a round belly but thick muscular arms replied with a serious expression on his face.

"If I follow that path, will I find those creatures again?" Aaron asked while scratching the back of his head. "I am not a fighter, and I am unarmed. I want to avoid all the encounters with them."

"We have some guards hunting them on a daily basis. You probably found a group that moved from somewhere else," the farmer said. "We will send them later there to hunt them."

"All right, thank you very much," Aaron said and then bowed slightly.

Aaron felt that there was something weird in the air, but he couldn't tell what it was. In any case, he headed south and then when he found a hill that could hide him, he changed directions and then headed to where he left his skeletons. He would need their backup.

The skeletons found three more targets and killed them, so Aaron turned them as well and gave them the order to follow him from a distance.

After walking for two hours, he reached the road that the farmer had mentioned, but he felt that something was off. There was a weird feeling around the area… while looking around, Aaron didn't find any traces of people coming and going. Still, he didn't find many monsters either.

"Is this… near the border of some country?" Aaron rubbed his chin thoughtfully.

That would explain why he felt something weird in that village. The people there worked to give some secret support to the agents that worked in the area… perhaps some of them were military as well. That would explain why that bald farmer had such muscular arms.

"I will follow the opposite path," Aaron thought. "Those guys thought that I was coming from the enemy territory, and… they sent me to a trap.

Aaron felt some presence around, and when he turned, some armed individuals left the shadows of some trees on the side of the road. That took a weird turn a lot sooner than Aaron predicted…
