Chapter 13 - Judgement: Arc 2, Chapter 2 - Ocean Hearts

The entirety of Strike Team Omega, bar one exception, were in the rest area of the ship. Due to the smaller size of the ship, it was a little larger than a living room and shared many of the same amenities. Michael was practicing sword swings through the air in the corner, Roy was reading a magazine while sitting in a lounge chair, and Lena was eating a sandwich at the table near the center of the room. They could hear loud, obnoxious, welding sounds coming from Joseph's room. He had been up there for quite a while, about 20 hours each day, for 2 days, only coming out for meals and showers.

Lena turned to ask Michael, "So, what do you think he's doing up there? Any idea?" Michael stabbed his sword into the metal floor, which made a small dent, before saying, "Honestly, he could be doing anything. He kept on having me melt down the metals he brought, every now and then. I would be surprised if it was anything normal, though." Roy put down his magazine, and asked, "So, we know anything about this "secret" weapons manufacturer?" Michael replied, "I do know a bit. It's one person, actually. They've been around for a while, even had some connections to the previous Calridean monarchy." Roy whistled, saying, "Damn, this is one elderly guy." Michael continued, "They make a lot of strong weapons in small qualities. They've been said to have the power to turn battles on their heads. I don't know a lot about the weapons, since they're pretty rare, even around rare military stores and the like." Michael's expression darkened, as he said, "I have seen one weapon in action. If the rest perform like that one... then that's a testament to that claim."

The welding noise stopped, as they heard loud rattling sounds from the lower decks slowly come ever closer. Michael turned to look at the stairwell, smiling, as he saw Joseph come up the stairs, with a large, baggy jacket on. Michael says, "So, look who came out." Joseph says, "You know me, always fashionably late." Lena turned to look at Joseph, saying, "What, did you manage to get a date?" Joseph replies, "Mhm. I got a date with destiny!" Lena says, "How ominous. Please elaborate." Joseph says, boldly, "Well, to show my performance to the audience, I need a proud volunteer." Joseph looked around at the room, before Lena exclaimed, "Fine, I'll bite. What do you need me to do?" Joseph responds, "I would like to challenge you, to a one-on-one duel! Of course, no maiming or killing, we wouldn't want to send any one to the hospital." Joseph laughs, slightly nervously, after saying that. Lena says, "Alright, I'm on. Just know, I'll treat this like any other fight." Joseph says, "Good. I want an accurate performance, after all!"

The team walked up to the main deck, where there was a flat enough area to fight. The sky would be overcast, with a hint of a storm brewing. Michael and Roy brought up lawn chairs, and sat down at the back of the deck. Roy asked Michael, "So, do you think Joseph's gone insane?" Michael replied, looking at the two foes walking to each other, "I'd say he has a reason for this. While, that reason is probably nonsensical, it's reason enough. I hope he doesn't go too far though, we don't have enough medical supplies to fix him up if he gets beat too badly. Lena and Joseph stood about 20 steps across from each other, their hair blowing in the wind. Lena asked, "So, when are we gonna start?" Joseph replied, "Just after the grand reveal, of course!" Lena said, deadpan, "Of course." Joseph reached for the zipper of the jacket, before quickly unzipping it and taking the whole jacket off. Underneath, he had his normal outfit on, with one exception. There was metal all across it, connecting bits of what seemed to be an exoskeleton. There were larger chunks of metal on his hands, and two tubes that lined the metal, those tubes having small holes with hatches on them.

Lena says, "Alright, professor. Would you like to explain your contraption, or do I have to see for myself?" Joseph replies, "The latter, of course! Now, I'll kind and let you hit first, because I'm just that good of a guy." Lena's fists sparked with electricity, as she said, "My pleasure." She put her fist out, before rushing forward with sparks trailing behind her. She stopped right in front of Joseph, launching the punch into his stomach, hitting the metal strips on his body. The attack connected, pushing Joseph back a little, but not resulting in nearly as much damage as she thought. Joseph says, "You see, my "contraption" here, is quite the ingenious invention, in my eyes. By exposing it to magic during the molding and shaping, courtesy of Michael, and, along with some electronics, I have allowed it to absorb elemental magic types, and even utilize some basic ones, depending on what I absorbed." Joseph raises his hands up, and the large metal chunks on top of his hands would fall onto his hands proper, covering them entirely and forming a metal fist. Joseph then ran at Lena, seemingly getting ready to throw a punch at her. Lena prepared to parry, wondering why he would try such anR easily dodgeable attack, even for someone slower than her.

Joseph, seemingly in the blink of a eye, blew past Lena, coming right behind her, before hitting her with his right fist, hitting her shoulder, and launching her into the air. Joseph says, "You see, these pipes on my body aren't just for style, they actually have a use. As I move, the lids on the small holes on the pipe move slightly, just enough to use my velocity and add more air in. This is enhanced depending on the amount of magic that my suit has absorbed. Then, by pressing a small button in my gauntlets, I can use that built up air, and move at much faster speeds than I could ever accomplish. Lena says, while covering her bruised shoulder, "I'm still wondering why you couldn't just show us this." Joseph replies, while nervously laughing. "You're gonna keep on wondering!" In reality, he just didn't realize he could just show it while planning it, and thought that it was way cooler to do it this way. While in the air, Lena charged up a lightning blast from her fingertips, and shot it at Joseph. Joseph activated the air again, launching himself into the air, but intentionally getting his gauntlet hit by the bolt. As Joseph reached the same level as Lena, his gauntlets suddenly sparked with electricity.

Joseph raised his gauntlets together, and slammed them down at Lena's head, plummeting her to the ground, and making a small crater. Michael would be eating some popcorn, watching the fight, while Roy drank from a glass he had on hand. Joseph continued ranting, saying, "As I was saying earlier, with some basic testing, and some imbuement from Michael, these things can adapt and reuse the last magic type they were hit by, if it was fire, water, electricity, or earth," Joseph would land, before saying, "Any questions from the audience?" It'd be silent, before he heard, "Yeah, I got a damn good one." from behind him. He slowly turned around, as he saw Lena standing there, electricity coating her entire body, with frozen ground where she stood. Joseph says, "Wait, we can talk it out!" As he realized Ice isn't one of the elements it can adapt to. Lena says, grabbing him by the collar, "Why the hell did you have to show all that off by a fight!" Joseph yelled, before running away, with Lena chasing after him, yelling. Roy turned to Michael, asking, "So... you read any good books lately?" Michael replied, saying, "Yeah, I actually have." Roy replies, "They're not gonna stop, are they." Michael replies again, saying, "They aren't."
