Chapter 27 - CH.26

"Okay, let's go !!!"

Johanna punched at the iron bars and broke them. In an instant, the two of them charged through the gap. The guard stationed in the prison tried to stop them, but all three of them knew how this futile attempt would end. The adventurer summoned her whip out of thin air and swung it at the guard; without even making a sound, the blade of his sword and his head were split in two. They broke the door, which led up to a stairway that would lead the two out of the building, so they had to follow it up.

Meanwhile, Alex and Yusuf were keeping a close watch on the carriage that Frank had entered a while ago. They spotted how a maid carried the baby to the carriage, with Wu following her close behind. They didn't want to attack too early since that could end up giving Johanna too little time to escape since even though Johanna and the Adventurer were strong, they alone couldn't stop the whole city guard. It was their job to rescue the child, and even if they failed, their task of freeing Johanna would still be completed.

The two of them also knew how strong the guild master Wu was, and they hoped that one of them could snatch the child while the other distracted him, so that after the child was safe, the other one could just retreat too. The maid arrived at the carriage and was handed to Frank, who got in the same waggon as Frank. Alex and Yusuf followed the carriage through the city on the rooftops near the road, jumping from building to building as the carriage accelerated. As the carriage reached the city gates, they couldn't follow it on the roofs any longer, so they leaped from the city walls into the tall grass surrounding the city. After a few more minutes, they decided it was the right time to commence with their attack. Yusuf jumped in front of the carriage, and the driver stopped it immediately.

Frank looked out the window to see what's going on, just to spot Yusuf.

"Isn't that one of your men, Wu?"

Wu looked out the window and nodded.

"Yes, he is. In the last few days, I thought something was wrong, and I was correct with that assumption."

Wu stepped out of the carriage to confront Yusuf. He stepped closer and closer to him, appearing very intimidating.

"What are you doing, Yusuf?"

"I am here to kill you, Guildmaster."

"HA, so the cat finally decided to poke the lion."

As Yusuf was distracting Wu, Alex had already approached the carriage from the side; Wu couldn't see him. He entered through the door, and as Frank was about to turn around, Alex punched him in the face, knocking him out cold. Alex caught the baby silently, which Frank dropped while falling to the ground. He also tried to soften Frank's fall so as not to make a single noise.

Alex turned around and left through the open door, not looking back and sprinting at full speed so that Yusuf could start his escape as soon as possible. What he definitely didn't expect was to see a dark object flash by his right side. Alex was suddenly spinning in the air, or, to make it more accurate, his decapitated head was. As he was spinning through the air, he saw the smashed body of Yusuf on the ground. His head fell to the ground with a loud thud.

"Did you really think I wouldn't notice you, Alex?"

Alex's vision was turning blurry; the last thing he saw was his decapitated body falling to the ground while carrying the baby.

"Well, you can't respond to me now anyway; it's sad to see a student pass away for a bitch like her, but well, it was your choice after all."

Wu picked up the baby out of Alex's hands and carried it back to the carriage in Frank's hands.

"Thank God you didn't let them escape. Driver, hurry up and get us out of here!!!"

The carriage was moving again into the forest, but Wu had other plans. He wanted to take revenge on the woman who made him kill two of his three disciples. He wished Frank good luck and told him that they would see each other at his mansion again.

"Should I bring the mother of the child with me?"

"You know what? She has given me enough headaches already. Just kill her already."

That's the exact answer Wu was hoping for as he dashed back to the city walls at full speed. He arrived there in mere seconds, but he didn't have a clue as to where Johanna was, so his first stop was the prison. He discovered the dead body of the guard and already knew what was going on, his next guess would be the direct opposite of the city gate they left in. He dashed out of the city and on the city wall at the Norther gate just to spot two female silhouettes running into the distance.
