With a deep breath, Wuxie hurled the first stone, the sound echoing through the chamber like a thunderclap.
The effect was immediate, the bats in the distance screeching in response, their attention drawn away from the chamber.
"Go!" the leader shouted, and Wuxie and the cultivators bolted for the tunnel leading deeper into the cavern.
As they ran, Wuxie couldn't help but feel a surge of exhilaration. This, he thought, was what it meant to be a hero. To face danger head-on, to overcome the odds, and to make a daring escape in the face of certain doom.
As they disappeared into the depths of the cavern, the sound of bat wings fading behind them, Wuxie couldn't help but shout with triumph.
"Did you see that, Wovi?" he exclaimed, his voice echoing off the ancient walls. "I told you I was a hero!"
But Wovi, ever the voice of reason, chirped in response, "Yes, yes, a hero of luck and chaos. Now, let's focus on not getting eaten alive, shall we?"
