The women continued their leisurely walk through the giant, lush area, their laughter and chatter filling the air like a mild melody. The heat summer time breeze caressed their faces, carrying with it the sweet scent of blooming wildflowers. As the moon began to upward thrust better into the sky, its radiant glow bathed the landscape in a silvery mild, casting long shadows that danced and flickered throughout the grass.
Sally, the most adventurous of the trio, could not help but let her pleasure get the higher of her. She ran beforehand, her arms outstretched, spinning round in circles as if she have been a kid yet again. Her long, ginger hair flowed behind her like a shimmering waterfall, catching the moonlight and illuminating her face with an ethereal glow.
"The moon is very vibrant today," Mia said as her fingers lightly liberated her hair from its ponytail. The tender strands cascaded down her back, mixing seamlessly with the darkness of her curls.
"Yea, it is stunning," Lila agreed, "and I surely wanted this clean air."
The girls continued their journey deeper into the sphere, their hearts filled with a sense of peace and contentment. Sally, however, could not withstand the urge to discover further and, much to the chagrin of her buddies, she ran ahead of them as she sang a song which Lila and Mia didn't know.
"Stop, Sally!" Lila and Mia shouted to her out in unison, but it become too late. Sally had already run into a tree, her laughter all of sudden was cut short due to the sharp ache in her nose.
"Ouch, my nose," she groaned, reaching as much as rub it lightly. Her eyes welled up with tears, and she couldn't help but set free a small whimper.
"Are you all right?" Lila and Mia rushed to her side, worries etched across their faces.
"I think so," Sally controlled to mention through her sniffles, "only a little hurt, but it's nothing".
" Are you sure you're okay?", Lila pressed further to which Sally waved off.
Sally walked in the direction of a fallen branch and sat down.
Sally watched as Lila and Mia settled beside her at the little fallen branch, their presence comforting amidst the backdrop of the tranquil field. With a mild wave, she confidently told them, "I'm okay, don't worry about me."
The trio gazed into a comfortable silence, the handiest sound came from the soft rustle of leaves within the breeze. It was Mia who finally broke the silence, curiosity sparking in her voice. "So, where are you from, Sally?"
Tucking a free strand of hair at the back of her ear, Sally drew a deep breath, as if the question was something she didn't like to answer. "I'm actually from this pack," she started, her tone carrying a mixture of nostalgia and ache. "My parents were soldiers, however they perished in a war when I was just 8. After their passing, I was supposed to stay with my uncle. The previous alpha then, compensated me for my loss."
A flicker of bitterness crossed her features as she continued, "However, my uncle proved to be greater inquisitive about his personal profits than in worrying for me. He mistreated me, stopped me from going to class with my age mates and even stole the repayment intended for my well-being."
Her gaze drifted to the horizon, in which the moon painted the sky with grey and black colour. "So I made the decision to run away, far away from this pack wishing that a kindhearted family would see me and take me as their own child" she confessed softly while laughing slightly at the memory. "I had planned to go away from this pack. At the back of all that, destiny had other thoughts."
Sally turned towards Lila and Mia, a faint smile gracing her lips. "Marie found me before I could make it to the pack border, and she took me her house. I didn't really tell her where I stayed, She thinks that I was a little girl whose parents died and had no where to stay. Since then, this servents quarters has turned out to be my home, and I'm grateful to Marie."
Sally cleared her throat, her curiosity piqued. "How about you too?" She asked, looking curiously at Mia and Lila. They exchanged hesitant looks, wondering if they should reveal the truth. Mia took a deep breath and began, "We're actually from very far away. We don't know how we ended up here. We were just running away because some bad guys attacked our village and kidnapped our parents, and then we get away here."
"Oh, that's really sad," Sally sympathized. "You're not wolves, then?" She asked, a hint of curiosity evident in her voice.
"No, we're human," Lila said softly.
Sally nodded, then said, "That's why you guys smell different. But not in a bad way," she quickly added, trying to clear the air.
Lila just nodded, appreciating Sally's understanding. When Sally asked about her hair covering, Leila was quick to reply: "It's cultural."
"Yeah, it's a cultural thing," She repeated softly, hoping Sally wouldn't go deeper. Fortunately, Sally seems to have understand the unspoken request and didn't probe further.
They stayed in the area for a while before Sally decided it was time to get back inside. "It's not safe out here,we need to head back to the quarters" She said.
The three got up from the branch and went back to their quarters. Mia and Lila followed Sally to her room, exchanging hugs before saying goodnight and then going back to their room. Mia let out a tired yelp as she made her way to her room. "I'm so tired," she mumbled as she climbed into bed.
"Goodnight, Mia," Lila said, removing the scarf from her head before settling down for the night.
