Chapter 8 - It's Pointless

Jay stood in front of a hulking figure as he looked at him from top to bottom. His eyes traveled from the man's forehead to his feet.

"Out of all my Father's creations, you, my friend, are the first successful one in a very long time." Jay said it cheerfully.

"Who was the first?"

"That I do not know, for now at least." Jay said it with a smile. "For the past forty years or so, my father has been working tirelessly to create a living weapon of mass destruction. And today I finally achieved it."

"What does that mean?"

"I created you." Jay pointed the scalpel at the man. "My creation,my creation."

"What will happen to me? How will you use me?"

"Your job is to kill."

"Kill? Why?"

"Because you are a killer, that's why." Jay laughed.

"I don't kill—at least not anymore."

"Not anymore, but you once did. You killed before."

"But I stopped."

"Yes,but you haven't forgotten how to do it."

"I won't kill again."

"I guess I'll have to jog your past skills, Evelyn! Input the code." Jay said it with glee.

A door opened, and a woman walked in. She wore a white coat and gloves.

"Good morning, Dr. Rut."

"Call me Jay, Evelyn. Are you ready?" Jay asked.

"Ready when you are." Evelyn stepped forward. "Where do we start?"

"On the left side of his neck. That's where the heart is located. A little jab should do it." Jay grinned.

Evelyn nodded and approached the man. As she got closer, she saw that he was much taller than her. His height advantage would give him an advantage if things went awry.

"Are you okay with this?" Jay asked.

"Of course. This is a part of the process," Evelyn responded. "I've done this many times before."

She bent down and grabbed the man's hair. Then she grabbed a fistful of hair on the other side of his head and twisted. With the hair tugged tightly, she could easily pull the man's head back.

She took out the hypodermic needle and prepared herself.

"Now, Evelyn. Just relax," Jay instructed. "Take aim."

With his free hand, Jay guided her towards the neck.

"Don't worry," Jay said. "He doesn't feel a thing."

As Evelyn held onto the man's head, Jay took out a small glass bottle containing liquid. It contained a blue liquid that glowed under ultraviolet light.

"Here we go!" Jay exclaimed as he sprayed the liquid over the man's neck.

A blue light flashed across the room. When it subsided, the man lay motionless on the table.

"Well, here goes nothing," Jay said as he tapped the man's neck three times.

When the lights returned, the man had turned into a large blue creature. Its body was covered by blue fur, and its limbs were clothed in a sort of exoskeleton.

"The final process is complete. His powers are activated. Now for the test run."

News reached the station as the city was in turmoil. The police force was overwhelmed as they tried to deal with the situation.

"Sir, we're getting reports of a strange creature ravaging the streets." The officer reported. "It seems to be attacking random people. We can't even contain it. There seems to be no pattern to their attacks. All operatives in the area have been called out for an emergency attack."

"Have you contacted the army yet?"

"No sir. But I think that-"

"Then get the hell out of my office. Call the general immediately and inform him of what's happening. I want those creatures taken care of ASAP!"

The officer scurried off.

"How is this possible?" the general wondered aloud. He had received the news himself. "This is unprecedented. No matter what happens, I'm going to find whoever or whatever is responsible for this."

"We'll handle it. We always do." An aide assured him. "Just wait till the day is over. Everything will fall into place then."

An hour passed, and there wasn't any sign of the creature—only the destruction it caused. Finally, one of the officers spotted the beast running through the street. The agent ran after it and caught up to it. Suddenly, it noticed him and swung it's hand fast, slamming the officer into mush against the wall.

"Damn it!" One of the officers yelled, "Open fire."

All the officers around opened fire on the creature. The bullets bounced off the creature like rubber bands. The monster looked at the officers and laughed.

"Ha ha! What a pathetic bunch of losers! They can't hurt me. Why? Because I'm no longer human, dumbasses. I am something far superior to humans. I am the Blue Monster. And now that you know who I am, you're all going to die. So let's play a game."

The Blue Beast continued laughing hysterically as the officers began firing their guns at the creature. The bullets bounced off the Blue Monster without effect.

Suddenly, one of the bullets hit the creature right between the eyes. It fell backward with a loud thud.

"What the hell?!" One of the agents shouted. "That bullet actually hit it!"

The monster stood back up, raising a car and throwing it at the officers. The car slammed into one of the cars parked nearby, crushing it and the officers behind it.

"Oh my God! What the heck just happened?" A second agent asked. "Why didn't it work earlier?"

"I don't know," another agent replied. "But it looks like the Blue Monster is down for the count."

They watched in horror as the monster walked toward them.

"There must be some kind of trick to this guy," the first agent muttered. "If we can figure out how he does it, we might stand a chance."

Lux and Chloe arrived at the scene as the monster approached the officers.

"Do you see him?" Lux asked.

"Yeah," Chloe replied. "I've got him on sight."

Chloe took out her gun and aimed it at the monster.

"Stop!" An officer yelled. "You'll shoot yourself if you keep doing that."

"Sorry, but this has got to stop!" She fired the gun, hitting the monster square in the chest.

The shot seemed to do nothing. The monster laughed as he walked toward Chloe.

"It's pointless."

Lux pulled out his gun and began taking shots at the monster as it approached. Each time the shots hit the monster, it did nothing to deter it from its path.

"I don't understand why the bullets aren't affecting it," Chloe exclaimed.

"Maybe because it doesn't have a brain," Lux said.

"Huh?.. Or maybe it's not made out of flesh," Chloe added.

"Exactly. Maybe it's made of metal. Or something entirely else. Whatever it is, our weapons won't do anything to it."

"So, what do we do?"

"Well..." Lux was cut off as the monster swung.

his arm, throwing Lux about 60 feet away from the others into an alley.
