"Alright, give me a moment."
Officer Eric nodded and left the room.
Chief Earl turned his attention to his computer screen, typing in the search term 'Monster'.
"Ah, there we go. Here is some information about the Monster Hunter." He read aloud. "According to witnesses, the Monster Hunter appears to be a man or woman dressed in black wearing a mask, gloves, and boots. The killer wears dark-colored clothing to blend in with the darkness of night and hides behind large objects to conceal themselves."
He continued. "Notable powers: electricity? Is that even possible?"
"Maybe."
"Who is that?"
"It's me, Lux."
"Oh, what's up? I heard you got injured really badly. I didn't think you'd have it in you to be at work today."
"Well, I feel fine."
Chief Earl paused for a moment before he said, "That's good to hear."
Lux leaned forward in his chair. "So anyway, do you know anything about this monster?"
"I've never seen him myself, but the reports say that he has super strength, speed, durability, and intelligence." Chief Earl replied.
"He also appeared to speak. Was that recorded?"
"Uhm...no. What did he say?"
"Nothing much. But yes, he talked."
"So are you thinking what I'm thinking?"
Lux leaned back. "That he is a human? Oh yeah."
"And why would a human kill people?"
"Because they don't know how to control their powers?"
Chief Earl shook his head. "No, humans are generally peaceful creatures unless provoked."
"Well, I hope that isn't true."
"What makes you say that?"
Lux sighed. "Let's just say I have my suspicions about a certain someone."
"Okay, okay." The Chief Earl stood up. "But one more thing. We need to keep this under wraps until we find him. There is no reason for panic."
"Agreed." Lux smiled and walked out of the room.

"The only person who would be capable of creating something like that monster is..." Chloe thought out loud.
"...Jay." Lux said as he walked into the room. "Yeah, I know."
"I was talking to myself; how long have you been there?"
"Long enough?" He laughed as he sat down. "We don't have evidence to point in the direction of Jay, so we will play along for a while, trying to solve this case along with others."
Chloe shrugged her shoulders. "Whatever you say, boss." She went back to her computer, typing away.
Lux looked at her and smiled. "You know, I've always wanted to ask you. Why did you become a cop? You seem smart enough to be an attorney."
She rolled her eyes. "I told you already; it's because I hate bullies."
"Bullies?" He raised his eyebrow. "Do you mean those criminals?"
"Yes! That's right!" Chloe shouted as she slammed her fist on her desk.
Lux chuckled. "So that's your reason."
Chloe looked at him with confusion.
"Never mind, it's none of my business." He said this as he started to walk towards the door. "Bye."
"Wait! Don't leave!"
He stopped and turned back to face her. "Why not?"
"Can you help me with my case? I can pay you."
"I can try. I don't need the money." Lux grinned. "But you're going to owe me big time after all the trouble I put myself into helping you."

It had been a month since the incident with the monster, and things seemed to have settled down around town. But now he felt it was time to make his move.
"Hey...Lux right? Detective Lux." Jay said as he opened his front door.
"Hey Jay."
"How's life treating you?"
"Good," Lux replied.
"So what brings you here?"
"Well, I'm glad you asked. I'm here to ask a few questions."
Jay nodded his head as he led Lux inside.
"This way." He said this as he led Lux to the living room."
Here, sit down."
"What did you do?" Lux asked.
"What'd you mean by that?" Jay asked back.
"I know you are responsible for the monster incident."
"And what brings you to that conclusion?" Jay asked with a smirk.
"I can feel it. I can tell when something's wrong. And I can tell when something's right. I can sense the power around someone when they're dangerous."
Jay answered as he crossed his legs. "I'm sure you know how to use it too."
"What?"
"Oh nothing. But if you really want to investigate a case, you should have solid evidence, you know." Jay shook his head.
"You got no proof, no leads, no nothing."
Lux smirked. "I guess you're right, but I just want to tell you to watch your back."
"Is that a threat?"
Lux left the question unanswered as he got up and left.
*****
"Hello, Mr. Jay."
"How is the new test subject coming up?"
"So far, he is showing positive results, but we are trying to make him significantly better than the previous one."
"Good."
"We know you were disappointed in the last test subject, So we are trying our best in the new subject."
Jay ran his left hand through his hair while using his right hand to hold his phone. "How can I be disappointed when I expected nothing from him? Proceed with the test; I'll be there by afternoon."
"Yes sir."
As the line ended, Jay closed his eyes and let out a sigh.
The blue monster was just another test subject, and it just proved his point that it was yet to become as good as the first test subject.
He was successful as a test subject, but he failed in his mission. It turns out he couldn't avoid death after all.
No matter what, he could not escape death. The day he left the dark place was the day he lost his freedom forever.
