Chapter 43 - How?

That night the first message Tobi got scared him even more, he put the phone 935 gave him well hidden amongst his clothes before he went to bed.

The next morning Shen came early only to find that 935 was not in his room, he looked around the house but didn't see him, he opened the door only to meet a sweaty 10 year old boy standing before him.

935 greeted him and entered the house, while 935 freshened up Shen prepared his breakfast, he carried it to his room only to see that 935 was not there, after searching the house Shen found 935 in the dojo practicing.

Shen dropped the food on a table in the dojo's sitting area and waited for him to finish up, after an hour of training Shen decided to join him, hoping to wear him out so he'd stop and eat. They went at each other for two straight hours.

935 landed a kick on Shen's chest which he blocked with his hand but the force send Shen stumbling back till he fell on the floor.

Their attention was pulled away when they heard someone clapping, 935 turned to see Lily by the door with a bright smile on her face. She walked up to them, Shen stood up and bowed before going to change.

"I leave you for a day and you already start practicing on how to beat me up when i return?" she teased.

935 shook his head in response, he walked to the sitting area and sat on the floor, in front of him was a table with the tray of food Shen brought for him.

Lily sat opposite him, on the tray was a plate of dumplings, rice porridge, pickled vegetables as a side dish and sow milk. "Shen must want you fat" she teased by the enormous amount of dumplings on the table followed by the towering glass of milk.

935 picked up a pair of chopsticks and began to eat, "What have you been up to?" He heard Lily ask, Shen placed a tray of food for Lily as well before leaving them to eat.

Lily picked up her chopsticks and snagged one of 935's dumplings, she brought it close to her mouth only for 935 to swipe it from her with his chopstick.

She watched him throw it into his mouth and chew. Lily scoffed and tried it again, before 935 could counter her she closed her mouth savouring the taste of the dumplings "Hmmm beef" she hummed.

This continued for a while till 935 stopped eating the dumplings and settled on his bowl of porridge.

"You really don't wanna talk to me warrior?" Lily said with a pout "I hurried here you know, i am not asking for much, just tell me what you've been up to." she urged "You like the dojo right?" she asked.

935 looked at her and said "Nǐ ràng wǒ hé yīgè tīng bù dǒng wǒ shuōhuà, wǒ yě tīng bù dǒng tā shuōhuà de rén zài yīqǐ, ránhòu nǐ yòu jiào tā dài wǒ cānguān fángzi. Wǒ yǐwéi wǒmen yào yīqǐ zuò zhèxiē shìqing, ér bùshì hé yīgè mòshēng rén zài yīqǐ."

Lily froze, she blinked a couple of times as she tried to comprehend what just happened, "Did you just, did i, why did... huh?" as she fumbled trying to form a sentence 935 continued eating.

<< What 935 had said was "You left me with someone who couldn't understand me and I couldn't understand him, and then you asked him to show me around the house. I thought we were going to do these things together, not with a stranger. Together.">>

But what shocked Lily was the fact that when she left he couldn't speak nor listen to Japanese, that was less than 2 days, and now she comes back and he not only spoke it, he said an entire sentence, without fumbling.

"How?" Lily asked 935, "Who taught you so quickly?" she inquired

"No one i-" he began to explain but Lily cut him off.

"Don't explain in English" she said.

935 explained in detail how he had learned it, yet she was still skeptical until Shen confirmed it. Later on Lily and 935 spent the day in the dojo. Lily taught him a lot of moves and was impressed by how fast he learned them, they needed a bit of perfection but by the way he practised she was certain he'd grasp it in no time.

As they conversed she pointed out subtle errors in his Mandarin when it came to the tone he used while speaking. She later brushed it off cause he never really did grow up where the language originated from so she didn't expect him to have their accent.

A week later his home classes began, Lily prepared a makeshift classroom for him inside the house. Tutors came and left with Shen by his side watching him. There were times when 935 deemed the class boring and proceeded to doze off.

Of course the tutor complained and Lily informed them that she shall handle it in her own way, as such 935 was punished by either practicing a stance for the whole day, or cleaning the entire house till it was spotless.

935 never really minded the punishment, he prefered it compared to what he was used to. The practicing helped him improve his stances and techniques to him.

935 requested a shed built in the yard for him and Lily told him he had to earn it, by earn it, he had to beat Lily in two of their martial arts training or sports of his choosing. Beating Shen to 935 was a breeze, but Lily was on a league of her own that he never understood.

She thought different styles from Judo, to Kendo, Karate, Kung fu, and lots bore they'd even practice boxing, kickboxing, fencing and archery. Lily indulged all kinds of things, from sports to fights, she even encouraged dancing. Telling him it'll help make him flexible and less stiff.

All these of course was learned indoor, by either Lily, Shen or private tutor. He did message Doctor Peter's from time to time asking him, as Peter's called them 'Extremely odd and unchildlike questions' but Peter answered them nonetheless.

When it was time for 935 to pick the sports for them to play, he had just turned 11 a few months ago, he was faster, but running wasn't one of their activities, he wanted to pick archery but they equalled in that, unless he'd manipulate her arrow out the way.

He settled to fencing and swimming. Lily smiled as she told Shen to prepare for their clash. Using his strength and speed he won the swimming challenge and was faster than Lily, but Lily smiled as they moved on to the next challenge, fencing.
