Chapter 9 - Magic

Amber headed out and somehow, after twenty minutes, she came back with the cups of coffee.

With a rather loud knock, Ajax heard, and let her in pressing his remote to unlock the door.

"Ten minutes was all I asked for. And you decided to double it, didn't you, Tania?" Ajax raised a brow at her.

Taking in deep breaths, Amber said, "it was hard. Okay, nobody likes me here and thanks to a security guard, he was the one who pointed to where the cafeteria was! Plus, my name is–"

"-whatever. Just drop it and leave now." Ajax said, not fixing his gaze on her.

Amber dropped one cup on the table and held the other one tight, ready to leave.

"Hey hey, princess Moana?" he said. For some reason, she looked like that sometimes.

"Why are you taking the other cup of coffee?" he frowned.

"W-well uh, I thought…it's supposed to be for me." she pointed out and got a scoff from Ajax.

"See, always thinking the world revolves around her. Put my coffee down right now, Moana." Ajax instructed.

"But-wait, but-" she realized there was no use arguing so she dropped the coffee down, spilling a little.

Ajax said nothing and waved on for her to leave. He picked up his phone after a message popped up.

"Wait, is he wearing gloves?" Amber muttered to herself. Dark gloves pressed firmly to his phone as he read the message.

"This can't be happening." Ajax groaned softly, then dropped the phone on the table. Amber could see worry in his eyes. He was rubbing his eyes now and heaving in shaky breaths.

"Oh my God, are you okay, sir?" there was always hesitation before she added the word 'sir'.

Ajax seemed to have forgotten she was still around. "Get out, leave," he ordered.

Amber stared again with concern, but had no choice so she left.

"I need to call Bianca." she thought. "She'll have the best advice. She always does!"

Before she dialed her number, Bianca's call came through.

"Hey Amber, what is going on?" she said immediately.

"What do you mean? Is everything okay?" Amber asked with concern.

"Of course not. Hudson was so angry when I told him you weren't with me. But girl, I had your back by lying that you were and I was only protecting your wish. I mean, why would you leave home?"

"I'm working now." Amber said. For some reason, she was angry Hudson would bother Bianca like that.

Bianca laughed out loud. "Yes that's what he said you told him too. Come on girl. Be real, who's going to give you a job?"

"I already have a job. And I was just about to call you to tell you how draining it already is." Amber said.

"That's bullshit, right? You? A job? Since when did you get this mentality, Amber?"

"Is this a hint of negative energy I smell here, B? I am working and I feel it's a really great start for me. Also, don't even bother replying to Hudson's calls. He had no right to invade your privacy." Amber said.

"Wait, you are serious. You, working? I just…this isn't right. You're married."

"You know for the first time, B, you're not being so supportive. I'll hang up now." Amber said.

"You wouldn't dare. I'm your only friend, Amber. Come on, we need to talk. Leave work right now and come to me."

"Bianca, you have a job of your own. You're a manger for a big hotel. Why can't I work too?" Amber demanded.

"That's just so…alright. Let's meet tonight. We can talk about this. I gotta go, I'm busy right now." Bianca said.

"So am I. Bye." Amber hung up. "What does she mean by that? Why is everyone so …negative? Treating me like trash all the time. No. I won't ever quit this job. One month? No way, I'm staying ten months! Ten years even!"

Some girls passed by and stared at her with surprise.

"I need to start with my document submission," she muttered to herself, and turned away to begin her task.

"Miss, you need to give this to Mr. Hulls to sign at once. The head of this department will be traveling for two weeks and won't be able to approve everything we've been doing all morning." A stout man said to her. He was in the admin department.

"Okay sir. I'll get it right now." Amber said.

"That's the problem. No one is allowed to enter Mr. Hulls' office from 12 till 2." He said.

"Okay, then I'll just go after 2 o'clock."

"Right, Mr. Whales, the head of the department travels by 1pm." He said.

"What? But…wait, I have to sign this all under one week so I can resume work fully. I can't be an intern for two whole weeks?" Amber exclaimed.

"I'm sorry ma'am. You can just go ahead and submit your other documents to the rest of the sections."

Amber got up and left, still feeling frustrated she would wait extra two weeks before becoming a full staff.

"Why can't I knock politely and enter his office now? I mean it's still 12:24." she raised a brow, thinking.

"Could I possibly get fired if I barge into his office now? Wait, the doors were locked. How would I even get in? I bet if I knock for one hours straight, he'll attend to me. One hours, I don't have one hour!"

With a determined mindset, she headed up to the top floor where Ajax office was located in.

Kira and her minions also happened to be working in that same floor. But she wasn't around at the moment, so it was her minions who decided to approach her.

"Hey you, where do you think you're going?" asked one of the girls, dark, tall and curvy, the one who happens to be the brightest.

Amber continued heading straight.

"You can't see him! Don't!" said another one with tiny squinting eyes and fair skin.

"Don't worry anyway. The door would be locked. Except if she has some magic…" said the first girl, and they both laughed.

"No one dare see our beloved Mr. Hulls, not even you, she-hulk!"

Now at the entrance, Amber wondered how she would get in. Her hands reached for the door and it just…opened.

There was a loud gasp behind her. "Oh my God, Heather. She does have magic!" Cried one of the girls.

"No, you idiot!" the first girl, Heather snapped. "Abby, you have to tell Kira at once."

Amber ignored their chattering and walked in. She closed the door behind her immediately. Her eyes fell on Ajax and she left them wide open in shock.
