Amber came home quite early that day but was still surprised to see that Hudson was back before her.
She was heading straight to her room when she noticed the dining table had been set. A rich looking chocolate cake was set on the dining table with wine beside it.
"Oh, my love. You're back!" Hudson came in and saw her. He was holding two glasses of wine. He quickly place it on the table.
"Hey, let me get that for you." He made attempt to take her purse but she frowned and took a step back. "Well, come and sit down. Come on," he gestured to the seat.
Amber was shocked to see him change so sudden, but Hudson was a sly man and should not be trusted so easily.
Her mother in law walked in. "Hey, what's this? Oh you bought cake and didn't give me some?" As she made attempts to cut the cake, Hudson slapped her hand away.
"Get out of here, mother! Who even called you here!"
The woman looked so shocked. "How dare you shout at me in the presence of Amber! And I just want cake. Why can't I have some?" She frowned.
"Because they're not meant for you. They're for Amber. My lovely wife." Hudson said with a smile.
"Oh so now she's your lovely wife because you need her help–"
Hudson pushed his mother out to quickly shut her up. When she was gone, he gestured to Amber again to have her seat.
"Okay then, what's the meaning of all this? Why are you suddenly nice?" Amber asked.
"Honestly, I just miss this. I miss us. Don't you miss us?" Hudson asked and Amber looked down. "Amber my love, I've been thinking at work and I want you to keep your job. It has been selfish of me to ever tell you to quit."
Amber swallowed. 'Could this really be happening? He is apologizing??'
"So I was hoping that we can settle our differences, huh? Let's continue to be one happy and loving couple." He said, bright eyes fixated at her.
Hudson was still as handsome as ever…her first love. A smile was working its way over to her face as she made an attempt to cut a slice.
Then Hudson foolishly said, and she lost her appetite.
"You want me to get you a partnership deal with Ajax Hulls? That's why you want me to keep my job? So you can use me?" Amber bellowed.
"What, no. I mean, you're my wife and you should be useful to me, right? You're pretty and see, you didn't even address him as Mr. Hulls. You called him straight by his first name meaning you guys are friends already."
"No. I won't help you. I can't help you! How can you even do all this, so I can help you. You're so selfish, Hudson!"
"Oh come on, you're a pretty lady and then he won't decline your request. You know how to charm me, don't you? Just try to convince that freak and we'll be fine."
Amber jumped up to her feet. "Freak! That man is still twenty times better than you, so it's really sad that you call him a freak when you're the freak here!" She roared out and walked away from him.
Hudson scoffed. "Well isn't he a freak? Why was she mad about that?" He said to himself.
His mother walked in and dug her fingers inside the cake, then filled her mouth. "Wow this is lovely. See, I ate the cake at last."
Hudson stared to look at and rolled his eyes, groaning in frustration.
"Why did she get angry when I called him a freak?" He said again, ignoring his mother's disgusting eating. "Why?"
As Amber stormed out, she locked herself in her room and fell to the bed. "Oh Amber, you should have kept your mouth shut. Even though you know Ajax isn't a freak." She said, and frowned.
"Did I over react there? I mean, Ajax only has a condition." She remembered everything Tania, her friend at work had said to her.
"It's not his fault. After the trauma, if I have to stay far away from him, I will. I just he'll get better, eventually." She comforted herself. But why was she suddenly worrying about him?
For goodness sake, Amber, you're married!
Her phone rang and she raised it to to see who it was. Her face was a frown now. "What does she wants now?" She muttered to herself, then picked up the call.
