Ajax glared at the mad woman again, not understanding why she looked even prettier. Her curves were enticing in that dress and her face looked so pretty like a model.
But why was she here? And dressed like that! She was like a Disney princess in real-life form. So elegant and beautiful. But why was she here?!
"Ava! Did you do this? You brought this weird woman here??" he asked, taking huge paces back.
"Oh my goodness, my hero! What brings you here?? I know it's a mall, but I was just thinking that--"
The woman ignored his sister and made her way over to him. He wanted to take another step back, but the thought of her holding him, it made him not want to move an inch.
"Hello lady, so your name is Ava?" the lady said, suddenly turning to face his sister, ignoring him.
"Yes it's Ava! Didn't I tell you before?"
"Well, we never got the chance. My name is Amber." she said with the most charming smile Ajax had ever seen before.
"Wow. So beautiful. And you look beautiful tonight too." Ava said excitedly. She was always excited anyway. So cheerful and always making the whole room lively.
"So let me introduce you to my brother!" Ava said. "This is my big bro, Ajax. Ajax, this is my hero. She saved me--" She suddenly stopped.
Amber stepped forward. "Yes. We both saved each other." they exchanged glances and both smiled.
Ajax frowned. "Where did you two meet?"
"Bar!" they both said at the same time.
"Okay...and she's the one interested in the job? Right?" he asked and Ava nodded. "Well I'll think about it."
Amber stared at the man before her. He seemed so filled with pride, his eyes glinting with confidence. She liked him. But that job...what would Hudson say?
Who cares! I'll take the job! She decided at last.
"Thank you." she said with a smile.
"Don't worry, Amber, the job is yours. My brother is so generous. But then, what are you doing here?"
Amber was still staring at Ajax wondering why he was moving further and further away from her when she heard the question.
"Well, you see...it's my birthday and um, I don't, I dunno what to do for fun." She said at last, hoping it would make any sense.
"Whatever, can I just be on my way now? I don't want to be late for my opera show." Ajax said, frowning.
He never laughed much, huh? Amber wondered.
Wait, opera show??? Her eyes widened as she jumped forward, but Ajax was faster.
"Stay back! Why do you keep coming closer??" he yelled out.
"Oh I'm sorry, it's just that...I want to go with you guys." Amber blurted out wondering where her ladylike manners had run to.
Ajax frowned. "No can do, sorry weird lady. This is a highly reserved--"
"Here's my ticket!" Ava cut him off, handing the ticket to Amber, then she ran off.
A car horn sounded from afar and the wind whistled past Amber's ears, but that seemed like the only noise in the air.
Finally, she broke the silence.
"So, are we really going together?"
Ajax was studying her with a stern expression on his face. His hand was resting on his chin.
"Amber, is it? I do not like you. You intimidate me, and I don't like that you try to touch me."
Amber felt attacked. "Touch you?" She scoffed, rolling her eyes. "Sir, I...it was a misunderstanding. I really needed your cell phone then! And right now, I want to go watch the show. Please."
Ajax saw her eyes shinning on his. "Puppy dog eyes? What the hell?" He blinked in disbelief. "Now you're pouting. Why are you doing that?"
"Seriously, I've lost all my ladylike manners and it's really embarrassing to me. But this night, I just want to have fun. I...I promise I'm not always like this. I'm poise and reserve and--"
"--fine. Let's go. Just stay far away from me. Really far." he said then stepped into the car.
Another car parked behind but Amber was not paying any attention.
She stopped for while. "Do I smell bad? Nope, I stole Maya's expensive perfume. So why is he feeling...intimidated?"
"He can't even open the door for me. Such a cold man."
"Are you coming?" she heard him ask and she quickly ran to enter but was stopped by a tall hefty man.
"The other car. No one but his sister ride with our young master." The man said.
Amber swallowed and hoped she wasn't getting kidnapped. She went with him.
The hall was lovely with fancy lightnings and was very spacious too. The audience were just arriving as the place was still filled with guests all wonderfully dressed.
They were led through a lane where it was just the two of them, but they could still very much see what was happening around.
Ajax was still at least five feet apart, and she didn't overstep her boundary.
She was about to enter the grand hall where the stage was when a voice called out her name.
"Amber??!"
She looked around and saw to the left, Hudson with a woman all cuddled around him. She hurriedly left the lane that had been set aside for Ajax and crossed to the more crowdy place where Hudson was.
The woman was very tall, maybe taller than him by a few inches. And she was slender with long legs. Hudson always made jokes about how he adored tall slender ladies...and then there was her with short legs and puffy cheeks.
She frowned, wondering how to process her anger. "Hudson? What in the world are you doing here! After promising to bring me here, you have the guts to be with another woman??"
"Baby, who is this?" the lady asked in the most annoying voice Amber had ever heard.
"Don't worry, baby. Go wait inside--"
Amber's eyes flared with anger. "Baby?!"
Hudson coughed. "Sorry, no. I mean..wait what are you doing here too!"
The lady was still hugging him tight. Hugging her own husband tight!
Ajax stood still, watching the drama.
"You're here with a man? What the hell! And you're so beautifully dressed? Are you cheating on me?" Hudson said angrily.
"Shut the hell up!" Amber flared.
Ajax wanted to step in their midst and whisper to Amber not to raise her voice any higher, else she would be sent out of the cinema.
"Amber, just leave right now while I'm still nice to you, before I loose my temper!" Hudson said.
"Loose your temper all you like. I'm not leaving here!" replied Amber angrily.
"Wow baby, they have the VVIP ticket. You lied to me that it was sold out!" Hudson's girl said.
"Because it was..I didn't lie." Hudson said. He was surprised that man was able to get the tickets as they were very expensive and he didn't have that much money to waste on a show he didn't even enjoy.
Amber watched how they both behaved like a couple. She should be the one there with him. He was her husband for fuck sake!
"Amber, you leave this place right now. Go home and we'll talk." Hudson said.
On a normal occasion, Amber would have started crying again. But not today. Today, she was with this rich handsome man and she's here to enjoy her opera show!
"Amber, I'll leave now--" Ajax yelled but suddenly stopped when he raised his head up and saw Amber walking towards him.
He wanted to move back and just run away, but he couldn't. She stopped in front of him, smiled, then before he knew it, she moved even more closer and hugged his arm tight.
Ajax's eyes widened as he sees this same lady hold him twice, and yet nothing is happening to him! Instead, his own chest was pounding and he could feel a tingling sensation in his legs. His stomach churned and he swallowed hard.
She walked forward pulling Ajax with her. "Hudson, you should leave home once you're done. Don't bother waiting for me."
The look on his face was very satisfying to watch. A smile appeared on her face as she turned and walked away with Ajax by her side.
