Chereads / The Crownless Throne / Chapter 2 - The Impending Death

Chapter 2 - The Impending Death

"Wake up, please!"

"I need you to wake up, princess."

Voices were getting louder. The warmth of the river was slowly disappearing and I can feel a cold stone in my back. I can even hear myself struggling for breath now that I am close to somewhere.

"I SAID WAKE UP, SISTER!"

I opened my eyes.

Gasping for air, I looked around and found myself in a dark place together with three people surrounding me. A sudden arms holds me tight and a small whimper begins. I look at this tiny creature who keeps crying in my arms. It's as if he has almost lost something very important. Thanks to the faint light passing through the window, it helped me quickly adjust my vision, allowing me to see who I am with and where I really am right now.

"Sister please, please don't do that again. Don't close your eyes for too long."

"Don't you dare leave us. You—you have promise not to leave us too!"

What is happening?

I grabbed his tiny arms and slowly pulled him away from me. I was held captive by the golden, shimmering, innocent eyes of the boy. His hair is so dark that the light can only reflect a few strands. I can see his freckles faintly dotted on his cheeks. He looks so angelic, like an innocent guardian angel of children. I have never seen a boy this beautiful.

"This is getting out of control! How many times do you have to be in that pitiful state while we wait for you to wake up!? How many times do I have to desperately pray for you to wake up before we get caught!? Do you intend to leave us too like what our father did?"

I was brought back to reality. My attention quickly went to the boy who talked, and just like that, I was also captivated by his glaring, golden eyes. This boy and the boy before him, they look very identical. No way, they're twins!

"Sister—I mean Princess Sein, please, we have to go now."

I lift up my head and saw a skinny young boy who was trembling in fear. He obviously looks much older than the twins, and he doesn't have golden eyes like them. He looked like a failed soldier due to his physique. Nonetheless, he is so beautiful as well. His light red, curly hair matches perfectly with his water color eyes. It's like I'm surrounded by beautiful people. And the way they dress, it's like I'm back in some sort of Victorian era.

Wait, Princess Sein? Is he talking to me?

"Sister, come on! What are you waiting for? The monster is coming."

Sein.

Sein.

I've heard this name before.

Sein Lorelai.

A sudden surge of adrenaline run throughout my whole system. This name, it was mentioned from the last book I read right before I passed away. Could this be a transmigration?

"No, this can't be!" I burst out. Holding and pinching my skin to confirm till I feel an excruciating pain. This may sound so cliché but I really did possess a character from a book and I don't think I'm dreaming right now.

"Sister?"

I quickly glanced at the boy who was holding my hand.

"You, Fe—ugh my head!"

Before I could even ask, a flashback of memories suddenly appeared in my head. These fuzzy, clear memories are obviously not mine. These are obviously the memories of the owner of this body. I pressed my temple to stop the dizziness. This takes me back from when I first got my symptoms back in my past life.

A full minute has passed of enduring this headache and three were just silently looking at me. I could only stare back at those worried faces, since I can't really tell them what is happening to me. And although, I remembered every single memory this body had, but in this situation I couldn't remember anything. "Can you guys tell me first, what happened first?"

The skinny boy instantly gives me a dagger and said, "Princess, it's another assassination from them."

"Assassination?!"

He nodded in response and pointed the sword. What in the world of assassination am I in? Life is really not in favor of me.

"However, this time they brought a monster. She looks like a human but she acts savage, like a flesh eating monster."

"A monster too!? What in the—!" I glanced at the dagger and saw an emblem. This emblem. This was an infamous emblem that was always mentioned in that book.

"Wait, tell me what the day is today and the time?" I asked, grabbing the dagger tightly. I know this emblem very well. The fact that we're currently being hunted to assassinate, this means that—

"It is Friday the 13th, and the time is five minutes till one in the morning."

My eyes widened from his response. This can't be, I don't have much time! As far as I can remember, it was Friday the 13th when Sein Lorelai Arch Angelus, the only known and alive family member of the twins, died in the hands of the main character at exactly one in the morning.

Chills run down my spine as I instantly stood up. The mere imagination of being killed by that flesh eating human is more terrifying than dying from a disease.

"You—carry him and we'll go straight to their room, now!" I commanded and carried the boy who was holding my hand. Victorians— I remember it was the family emblem of one of the Queens' concubine and is known for being the most notorious concubine. This is a world of magic and fantasy, matriarchal world, where women are the most superior than men. And I as the princess of this kingdom will always be in danger.

"We don't have much time, let's go!"

The young boy carried the other twin, and we both ran fast to the bedroom of the twins. According to the novel, the twins hid in their room after their sister Sein Lorelai died. One of the twins, named Felix Harrison Arch Angelus, found a sword and fought bravely with the assassin. Despite his small physique and the heaviness of the sword, Felix desperately fought to avenge his dead sister and protect Felipe.

"Felix! Felix!" I called out as we ran.

"What is it!?"

Felix is with the skinny boy, so this kid right here with me is Felipe Hansel Arch Angelus. And despite the fear and extreme sadness due to the death of his sister, he also fought alongside with his twin and literally protecting each other's life.

"A big sword! Tell me where the big swords are?!"

"It—it's in the wall, it's stuck in there," he answered, all while holding the boy tightly.

That's enough for to me to know where it was and apparently, Sein's death, my death will be the reason of their awakening. The twins awakened from the extreme trauma which results to developing a deep hatred and anger to the Victorians and to the King.

As we reach our destination, a loud footstep can be heard approaching us. When we entered the bedroom, I put down Felipe and quickly locked the door. The fact that this place is old and has very poor maintenance made it seem impossible for us to be safe inside, despite locking the door. I have no hope in avoiding my death by just simply hiding here.

"Felix and Felipe go under the bed, now! And you, grab this dagger and hide too."

As the three hid under the bed, I quickly went to grab the sword from the wall. Above each bed of the twins, there were swords, and according to the book, they were purposely placed by their father. I reached my hands into the sword and pulled it as hard as I could, but I didn't expect it to be that stuck. I tried to pull the other sword but it was also stuck.

Almost immediately, a heavy fist pounded at the door. I felt a shiver down my spine. I tried to pull the sword once again, but it didn't even move an inch. My hands started to uncontrollably tremble in fear as I recalled the scenarios of Sein Lorelai being brutally killed. The main character is the one that will kill Sein, since she's cursed and is being controlled to kill the other princesses, like Sein.

For an instant, the door burst open, revealing a ghostly pale woman. As our eyes met, the time went slow motion, it's as if the world is giving me a time to either die or survive. Gazing at her crimson eyes, I felt my adrenaline spikes even more, and suddenly every muscle in my body was on fire. I can hear the crackling sound in the wall, which somehow gives me a small hope of not being killed by this monster. And with all my strength, I pulled the sword, as the monster charge at me.

It swung so fast, so strong that it created a small blaze of fire in its blade.

I groaned in pain. I can feel my torn muscles in my arms, and my legs were trembling from too much strength I exerted. My right shoulder droop while holding the heavy sword. The monster in front of me, was able to almost dodge my sword. It only caused a small cut in her cheeks. This isn't enough, I at least need to injure one of her legs to buy us some time to flee and hide somewhere far and safer.

Lifting up the sword and pointing it to her, I called out the twins. "Felix and Felipe, in a count of three, all of you must get out under the bed and run as fast as you can to hide at our favorite hide out."
