Chereads / Liam's vow / Chapter 5 - Waking moments.

Chapter 5 - Waking moments.

Watching the lights beaming from the far off void was a favorite pastime for Liam. Gazing at the sky was always cathartic to him. Years ago he would lay under the tree that grew in the creek by his home. Star gazing to escape the anxiety and reality that laid before him. Having too much of realities' burden quickly puts an enormous weight and responsibility on Liam's poor shoulders.

Feeling the cold dry wind blow his dirty and greasy hair out of his face, Liam felt the first semi-ounce of peace he's had in so long. As tears threatened to pour down his face he straightened his back and controlled his breath. Inspecting his bag Liam was very satisfied, having found exactly what he needed Liam pulled the scroll from his new bag that he scavenged. As Liam spread his hands away from his chest with the scroll in his hand, he watched the old and brittle textile reveal a map. Decided his next plan of action and with all the supplies he could ever want Liam got a move on. Pushing himself off the ground he felt soot fill the creases in his hand as he began to stand up.

Turning around Liam saw a familiar scene, as if bought straight from his ocean of self hate it's terrifying image painted itself in front of Liam. His home overlapped with theirs, watching the flaming buildings in front of him burn with the dancing flame in front of him petrified him. On the verge of a mental collapse Liam cut his balm with his sword. A sharp gasp came from Liam as the pain ran through his nerves, as blood dripped from his outstretched hand and stained the ground below him he felt clarity fill his mind. Staring at the results of his scavenging Liam's face remained, still and unmoved.

Finally the stench of burning hair and sulfur filled the space around Liam. Bestowing his gaze over to the flaming pile of charred meat filled him with disgust. Watching the village he set fire to himself crumble to ash and soot bestowed Liam with closure. The powerless and pathetic man before was a mere sliver of his potential. Standing with a dark silhouette against the raging and hungry flame was Liam. There would be no blockades in his path for his revenge. His Vow welcomed destruction and the discarding of Humanity and compassion. Liam will carve through Men, Women, and Children if it means being inches closer to his destiny.

Taking his once silver and flawless sword he moved it into the growing fire in front of him. Watching as a bright blood red glow consumed his sword; Liam stared intensely. As the sword reached Liams desired state, he rummaged through his bag before taking an item out. In Liam's grasp was the orc's severed hand. Pressing the fingertips along the broad side of his heated sword the smell of burning flesh raised through the air.

Cementing his Vow to destroy the legion of Cambion he moved the blackened fingers off the still glowing blade and tossed it away.

Liam took the heated blade and laid it on a table he retrieved from one of the houses. Hearing the sizzling of the metal burning the wood Liam moved a plaid blanket off a mysterious bucket. Grasping the wooden handle Liam poured the purple viscous liquid over the tempering blade. Watching steam rise off the blade and the liquid boil Liam decided against grabbing the blade until it cools. Flipping the gross bucket over, Liam decided to sit down and once again go through his belongings.

Looking inside Liam finds three flasks of water, two loaves of bread, a dagger that he decides to slip into his boot, a map, and enough rope to make an improvised bow.

Snapping out of his inspection Liam looked at the sword resting on the table. Its once silvery sparkle and light metal has changed drastically. Its once silver glow has been replaced with a dark purple hue. Liam's hand extended out to reach for the handle of the sword, as he raised his improved blade he found himself consciously having to lift harder.

"It is as if the metal itself became denser" remarked Liam

Running two fingers against the edge of the metal revealed its sharpness as a cut appeared on his fingers. Wondering what caused such a drastic change in the weapon Liam's eyes wandered to the middle of the blade. Spotting a dim red glow where the Cambions fingers were caused Liam to catch his breath. Smiling hard at the acknowledgement of his Vow and devotion filled him with dignity.

Pride filled his march to the tree he was resting. Finding his place of rest, Liam laid against the soot layered ground as he witnessed the moon stagnate against its speckled canvas. Closing his eyes Liam acting like he was sleeping always worked for liam to sleep even if his body was restless, and if clockwork Liam slowly drifted to sleep listening to the sound of crackling fire.
